Damn, I used to like EGM in the '90s.

I bought a couple issues of EGM during the 16-32 bit days. I remember they were crammed with advertisements which I didn't like.

I couldn't agree more. I've been ranting about EGM's lacking coverage of MK:D, and how behind the news curve they've been. I also have no idea why I have a subscription to EGM. I really liked the mag back in the 90's, but their reviews and previews are so scattered, haphazzardly organized, preferential to certain games (how many Halo 2 previews?) and containing no real information now, that they've become one of the worst video game magazines on the market. Shoe is running EGM into the ground. As for the preview itself, you can tell that they have no clue about the game. None.

True, perhaps because they don't care. I don't know if you've noticed, but MK isn't exactly at the forefront of gaming anymore.
Also, you mentioned their hype of games like Halo 2. In all honesty, this is because right now Halo is more popular than MK, and H2 will make MKD it's bitch in sales. Keep in mind I'm an MK fan myself saying this, but it's a fact.

EGM has most definitely gone downhill in recent months.. Their coverage for MK Deception as others have said is very poor, and by the time they do cover it, its info we've known for a long time. They do seem to have a thing against MK.. This last preview the guy said that the fighting mechanic hasn't changed much since the beginning... Shoes editorial an issue or two ago basically ripped the game in a sentence or two.
It's kind of like OPM and Jak II...Whenever Jak II is mentioned in OPM by an Editor, they have to put in a little extra note about it being too hard. The wussie old reviewer Gary Stein..er..whatever ripped Jak II in his review saying it was way to hard, and ever since then they cant resist slamming it every chance they get. Kind of like how EGM appears to do with the MK series.

These comments on MK's lacking fighting engine are legit, though.
HOWEVER, I also agree with many of the comments on EGM. EGM was available on import here years ago and I was a fairly faithful buyer. I remember that EGM2, back when it existed, actually continually had MK plastered all over its pages (during the MK3 et al era). Somehow the series fell into complete disgrace with MK4 and never gained favour again.
Sadly, a lot of other magazines and video gaming news outlets have taken over this bullshit, claiming the popularity of MK "waned" in the past few years. Sure it did: before 2002 and after 1997, there were no new games! I remember very sharply how many mags were excited about the first screens of MK4 though (although in my mind MK4 is the worst game in the series). They just changed their mind in retrospective.
Here in Europe it's even worse. There are hardly any serious gaming mags here with people who (1) can write or (2) know what they're saying.

Most interesting thing though is that for the preview for next month's issue, for the reviews, Deception is the one that they highlighted and showed a pic for. Surprising since they chose that over one of the other games such as Tony Hawk or Paper Mario... knowing EGM, you think they would've put MK:D on the bottom... bastards!

i got my last issue on sat...and i wont be extending my subscription. sometimes they have some hot chicks in game ads and such (the new one has brooke burk) and thats almost top quality whackin material.

im not a big fan of tony hawk games but those games were way better then mkda.. and about that halo metroid commment thats not true.. its more like if its not a good game they dont like it... metroid n halo r solid titles compared to mkda..

True... but don't forget virtually any football, baseball, and basketball game will get at least 8.0 ratings as well. Which pisses me off when at least every other month a sports game is game of the month. This month, however, it was "Sly 2"... a game I don't plan on playing any time soon.

The only review I believe is my own. All magizines have their own rating garble. I don't think Halo is the best game on the planet, niether is Splinter Cell, but that is what I think. Don't go by what other people write on paper that you pay almost $10.00 a mag for. Go by your own thoughts. Magazines are just to read and throw away once they have been used. EGM is the last mag I would ever buy anyway. I own an Xbox and only want to know about the Xbox. So I get the Official Xbox Mag and nothing else. Only because I want to see what is coming out and to try the demo discs. That's it.

again, did you not read the mkda review? its like they didnt even play the game. "same old mk"..dont think so. "cages bike kick looks rediculas"..he doesnt even have a bike kick. stick egm up your ass. im not mad because of the scores it got, im mad because of the text in the review. so, selling 3million isnt a solid title to you? no more puff puff give for you.
