The original characters are the ones that defined mortal kombat. I really would like to see alot more of them in the game. While I'm on this thought I really would like to see the entire Mortal Kombat series start taking a turn to it's roots and start having a storyline more focused on protecting earth. I would like to see a few more fighting stages that take place in the earthrealm rather than the outworld.

Oh I understand that, however, Sonya MUST have a huge fan base otherwise she probably would have been taken out a long time ago...However she's been in every game except for MK2 That has to say SOMETHING for her popularity, why keep bringing a character back if the majority of your customers that buy the game hate the character? It wouldn't make sense. This is what I am basing my statements on.

Well,lots of people hate Johnny but he's been in lots of MK's.Also,Bo Rai Cho and Li mei were hated by TONS of people but they are back.So sometimes popularity doesn't matter,the story does.

I may be focusing on Sonya at the moment but I haven't forgotten the others...Also thank you because you just proved a point I made earlier, well partly anyway...You may have other reasons for not really caring if Sonya's in or not and that's cool, but the one that you listed was pretty much saying that you have grown bored or not interested in her current story line...which is, as i said earlier, the main reason people are saying they'd rather not see her in the posts on this board, not necessarily because they don't like Sonya, but they've more or less grown bored of her because she needs something to change. Easy problem for Boon and Co. to fix...remember nothing is set in stone in MK and Sonya could do a complete 180 and be very different stoyline wise.

Well you said it yourself, this forum doesn't even begin to cover all MK fans, so there are probably people out there who love Johnny...At least I have found him to be defended from time to time in these very boards...And i know for a fact there are BRC and Li Mei fans out there...so you see like you said we can't really base a character's fan base by what is read in these boards.

I completely agree. I couldnt agree with you more on the part about sonyas (or other characters) storylines completely changing and going in different roots. This is the whole point i try get across to some people about scorpion. Regardless if hes boring and his storyline is the same, his story can EASILY change in the blink of an eye. All Ed Boon and Co have to do is think up a different story for him and voila. He could form his own clan, be good, be evil, ETC.

But overall, any characters stories can change and be different. Upon this happening, some characters can even turn out to be way more important then ever, or more involved in the storyline because of the dramatic change, and this could cause them to become more and more popular.

I wasn't basing the popularity of those characters by these forumns.I was basing it from what I've heard from hardcore MK fans that live by me and by surveys all over the internet.It may not be the most accurate assumtion but it's far more accurate than just basing it on a SINGLE website.

BTW,I do think it's odd for Sonya to be in almost all of the MK's if she doesn't have lots of fans or is at least liked by the MK team.I mean I think I remember hearing a member of the MK team saying Bo Rai Cho is his favorite character.So sometimes the MK team can get greedy and put in whatever characters they want no matter how much people dislike them.

Well I can't argue that, I'm sure that the MK team have characters that are their favorites, still compared to other characters excluding Scorp and Sub who've been in just about all as well...Sonya has a pretty impressive resume...Infact The original Seven have been in almost all MK games, I mean some were added to revisions of certain games later, but they were still there, with the exception of Kano not being in MK4 or gold that it is. LOL though some would argue he was still there through Jarek.

sub, scorp and raiden were the only cool fighters in mk1. the others were tolerable fodder. raiden was cool in mk2 but really started to blow in mk4 and by mk5 he was so far removed from what made him cool he was now the fighter formally known as raiden. kano's story is done. sonya should have killed him mk3. sonya was ok in mk4 but uh yeah she is done. liu kang...the jar jar of mk...stay dead. johnny cage...the nut punch was funny for a bit in mk1 but i never cared for him. so sub and scorp being the only originals back in mk6 is superb news. they are what made mk1 so famous and they will always be cool.

It is not really funny at all that Sonya is being defended. Read the title of this thread. It is only natural that players who generally like the original 7 characters are going to post here. Sonya being the only female in the original game presents a likleyhood that more posters will like her. Go to a Smoke thread and see how many people in the past say "I can't believe we don't have Smoke again and yet we still have people like Jax and Sonya."

I think Sonya stuck around so long because there were no quality females in the game. Since MKDA there have been an increase in the amount of quality females, and MKD seems to be no exception, thus Sonya is no longer required and we can hang her muddy boots up for a while.

Lots of people are dissapointed in the return of Lei Mei, but she is way better than Sonya for story and design in my opinion. Sindel is also a great example of a better character in general, and Mileena. I'm not so keen on Tanya, but her deceptive ways in MK4 still make her more interesting.

Raiden owns! He always has since MK1! He's a cool and great character and is my fave MK character of all! His story has become somewhat lacking, but he still is important to the MK storyline and he should be in MKD!

Sonya is another favourite! Whoever said many people like her is wrong! Sonya is the orginal female of MK and she has practically been a great fighter in every game she has been in. MKDA was an example of her ownage!Again, like Raiden, her story is lacking. All they both need is a huge story change that will liven them up a little and make them more interesting.

The Sonya story I wrote was an example of a possible story change. I have one for Raiden which I'll be writing and posting soon. Both Raidne and Sonya should be in MKD. They are important and have many fans who will be disappointed if they're not in.

I remeber my first time playing mortal kombat. It was on PC. LOL it was great fun thou. Anyways.... I love Raiden he is great times. He has fun moves. As for sonya her storyline just start to begin. Her becoming the general of her group. And for Jhonny Cage, he just needs to die and stay dead. Sorry for this to all the Cage fans, but i dont like him. I dont like playing as him, hes not fun at all. And his character in the storyline, movie, and or comic he just not that cool of a character. The only thing i rember on cage that i like was on Triligy when you block he took off his glasses i thought that was one of the coolest blocks. lol. thats all i like about his fighting character.lol

Actually, in Cage's defense, he usually had some of the cooler fatalities.

Actually, Sonya was ranked in 92 as the most played character of Mk1. You might not believe me but this is true and fact, and btw, were I lived, she scorpion and cage were the ones people most picked. oh, sonyas moves are some of the best, she has been top tier in all mk games (except trilogy i think, she was mid)

I'm just hoping with so few of the originals in MK:D that they all come back better than ever in MK 7. Don't forget MK 7 should be even better than MK:D since what is left unfinished *cough*create-a-character*cough* in MK:D should be ready by MK 7.

(Also, with both X-Box and PS2 now able to take expansion packs, patches and programming upgrades...who knows maybe they might add characters later on.)

As for the rumored death of Rayden *shrug* when has being dead ever kept a character from returning in Mortal Kombat. Hey if an actor can do it, why not a god?

But I like him. I like him because I enjoy beating the shiz out of him in practice mode

As for Sonya, I never had a thing for dumb blondes, but that's just my opinion right? What annoyed me the most in mK:DA was Sonya. If she kicked the area of air about 1 foot away from your character you get hit. This shits me.

In my honest opinion, I believe that a successful character needs to have character, charisma and charm, and I don't belive that Sonya nor Cage fills these criteria.

I respect your opinion , but I totally dissagree. Both characters have the cualities needed to be succesful, why you think fans like them so much?
