Good thread, well thought out and put together. I havn't had the pleasure of playing MKD (live in the UK), BUT having followed the stories, gameplay videos, and so on, I'd plump for the following:
Liu Kang: well, his ending implies he'll be back. I like Kang; this is not a problem for me, especially if the storyline focussed on a BIG apocalyptic tournament (you hear that MK team? A good old-fashioned tournament
)
Scorpion: he's got a new twist in the story. With Noob Saibot's true identity revealed, will the Scorpster find out? Will he reject his new career as Elder Bouncer to go after the wraith?
Sub-Zero: no brainer. We've unanswered questions about that armour/family line, plus Noob and Sub need to duke it out.
Kira: i likes the look and sound of Kira. Sounds like a truly evil bitch. Keep!
Kobra: I wouldn't mind Kobra reappearing, wiser and dedicated to smacking Kira one..
Kabal: *sigh* overrated fan favourite. While his story has taken a good turn, I just don't really care about the character. Kira, please kill him before MK7.
Ermac: good story. I'm not that fussed though, should he stay or go. Maybe I'll feel differently once I PLAY as him!
Kenshi: I really like Kenshi. He feels fresh and interesting. Bring him back!
Bo' Rai Cho: first: why do we need a joke character? Second: Ed Boon can say Johnny Cage was the comic relief all he wants; how, though? BRC just annoys me. I don't like him, his background as a trainer is interesting but the character is just irritating. He's not serious enough. NO.
Havik: while not caring much for the execution of the Orderrealm/Chaosrealm business, Havik sounds like he has potential. I wouldn't mind.
Hotaru: while his costume looks a little off sometimes- (that girl who proudly said she designed him to look bug-like 'cos of his name meaning "firefly": did you used to work on some bad sci-fi series, love??) I like the character, and feel he should come back. Seems a right bastard.
Baraka: I never used to like Baraka much- again, fan-favourites just turn me off. It's the overhype. (Except Scorpion strangely. But I always loved the story, he's not just an "OK" character). not fussed. I do like the way he fights with his blades, though...
Mileena: bring her back with Kitana for a once-and-for-all bitch fight, maybe? She looks great; can her story sustain?
Nightwolf: I like Nightwolf; but he never seems to fit in to the story that well. Like he's a forced in character. Perhaps you'd better get some motivation, N; wait on the sidelines.
Dairou: the most boring looking character in MKD? No!
Darrius: the second most boring, uninteresting character in MKD? Again: NO! Give us someone else for Hotaru to really go up against.
Noob-Smoke: yes. Double yes, in fact, as they need to be seperated. Noob neeeds to really go it alone, as his storyline says (and beat up Ashrah maybe?), and face off against Sub-Zero and Scorpion. Smoke needs to regain the elemental background we were told before MKD came out (his "new" head with red eyes isn't HALF as good as the old one- in that pic versus Baraka, with the ninja mask). And he has a score to settle with Noob.
Ashrah: yes, yes, yes. Aside from Kira and, to an extent,, Hotaru, the only new character to really capture my interest.
Tanya: nice character, I loved her in MK4, but does her story stretch that far? I could lose Tanya, no problem.
Raiden: oh, yes. The Thunder`God's taken a dark turn.
Shujinko: no. he's had his purpose- to help resurrect/defeat Onaga, and get zapped by Raiden (showing how mad Raiden is at losing- I mean, mad at humanity.)
Sindel: she's got purpose. I just wish they'd dress her better. But can the Queen of Edenia keep popping up? Again, if the storyline's BIG and apocalyptic, yeah. otherwise, save her for later.
Li Mei: I don't much like her. But she has a good story to tell, and there's always room to improve. Keep her.
Jade: Perhaps? I like Jade. Can they find a good use for her, though?

MK Khronology: 58.49% complete...Here's my take:
Ashrah: Great character, but if she's ascended, perhaps she shoud be left out for a game.
Baraka : Most definitely.
Bo Rai Cho: As much as I like him, I agree with the whole '2 in a row' thing. Save him for later.
Dairou: One of my favorite newcomers. I'd like to see him learn that it was Darrius behind his family's murder, and seek revenge against him.
Darrius : Just wasn;t interesting enough for me, but with a bit of work, I could grow to love him.
Ermac : Let him stay. I see big things in his future. I think he's made the most successful return of any character.
Kabal : Love him, but give him back his buzzsaw, let us see his face in one outfit, and we'll talk. I believe he can make the Black Dragon powerful again.
Kobra : Am I the only one that does not associate the man with Cage simply because he's handsome? That said, If his ending is true, then we shouldn't see him next time.
Mileena: Good to have her back, but I think she should step back for one more game, assuming her ending goes. It probably won't (I think - she's died once already), so I woudn't mind seeing her back. I'd prefer it if she weren't, though.
Nightwolf : Happy to have him back, but let's give him a better storyline next time, K?

Sub Zero : DURRRRRRRR
Havik : For the love of god, YES. Best new character. Period.
Hotaru: While his design was wonderful, his storyline disappointed the hell out of me. Leave him.
Jade : Much room for advancement, and a great deal of potential. I'd love to see her back, and see the fued between her and Tanya deepen. Definite yes.
Kenshi : 2 in a row is good. Take a break.
Kira: Give her her own moves, and a more interesting storyline. Then we'll talk. Nice design though.
Li Mei: She went from being my least fave to one of my votes for 'best new character'. But she's had an awful lot of development the past 2 games. Leave her for now.
Liu Kang: I don;t think there's any question about it, honestly. Turkey is served.
Noob/Smoke: Noob has been in some version of every MK game since II (and yes, I'm counting Tournament Edition along with MKDA). It's a toss-up for him. I want to see him interact with his brother, and see his plans and schemes, but on the other hand, I'm kind of sick of him. Undecided. Let's say yes for now.
Smoke, on the other hand, has a lot on his agenda. From being a friend, to a cybernetic assassin, to a body in a dungeon, to a cybernetic slave> I vote he regain his independence. he's got his on moves at last, so there's nothing stopping him for making MK7 his game. Yay for my favorite character!
(I want them separated, though. Grr.)
Raiden : Character development? For The Thunder God? Dark developments? Yes please.
Shujinko : Crispy old man? Konquest has endeared me to him, but if Raiden's ending holds true, he has played his part and gone to rest. Let it be so...for now...

Ashrah- Want her back. I like her story and I think even if she does acsend, it won't be because she killed Noob Saibot. And I want to see her with Sareena. Demon Huntress and an escaped Demon. Both are former assassins of Quan Chi and both hate him. Ashrah's after Noob, Sareena is connected to Sub-Zero. Silver platter...hello?
Bo' Rai Cho- I have nothing against Bo' Rai Cho really, don't like him don't hate him, but he has been in two games in a row and he is still generally disliked. At least have him sit out MK7.
Baraka- I like Baraka and I think he can come back. Try to get revenge on Mileena for betraying him. Think that'd be cool.
Dairou/Darrius- IMO, the whole Orderrealm storyline has fallen flat. I thought since Darrius was the one who had Dairou's family killed, that that would be addressed in this game but it wasn't. I don't think these two deserve another game to resovle their differences. Both out.
Ermac- I like Ermac's new story direction. Big improvement in Deception and I think he has a lot of potential for future games.
Havik- Keep him. Mortal Kombat needs a genuine nutjob and his only purpose is to fuck with people so he could find something to do in the future.
Hotaru- Again, no interest in Orderrealm and Hotaru is, IMO, the blandest of them all. I really don't like him. Out.
Jade- I'd like Jade back. I would like to see her feud with Tanya be developed.
Kabal- I like Kabal's new story direction. He has a new Black Dragon which will feud with the Red Dragon and should lead to some cool results.
Kira- Keep Kira, but give her more unique moves, escpecially since Sonya will most likely be back for MK7. Other than that, I like Kira and want her to stick around.
Kobra- I'm indifferent about Kobra. He seems like an interesting character, but he needs to get away from the "evil Ken" persona and become more of his own character. If he survives his fight with Kira, having him joining the Red Dragon is an interesting idea.
Kenshi- Kenshi's cool, but he has been in two games already. I really could go either way on Kenshi.
Li Mei- I hated Li Mei in Deadly Alliance. I'm indifferent about her in Deception. Like Kenshi, I could go either way.
Liu Kang- I'd rather he didn't come back. Especially since his ending suggests that he'll be back exactly the way he was in every other game. Either stay different, continue to change, or don't come back at all. The typical hero bit is done.
Mileena- Yes. Whether her ending happens or not I definitly want to see where Mileena goes from here. I would also like to see a potential feud with Tanya for Edenia's throne in the future. Evil bitch vs. evil bitch...I love it.
Nightwolf- Sadly, I'm still not impressed. It was worth a shot though.
Noob-Smoke- Want them both back, but seperate. Noob for obvious reasons involving Sub-Zero, Scorpion, and Sareena and Smoke because I like Smoke and I'd like him to be his own character again.
Raiden- I like the dark pissed off Raiden. Have him come back even more pissed off.
Scorpion- I like Scorpion as sort of the unlikly hero but he needs to runs into some nasty roadblocks along the way. And it is Scorpion after all...of course he'll be back.
Sub-Zero- Scorpion may be the "unlikely" hero but Sub-Zero is the new "hero" hero; they just need to make it official. The new Medallion has jacked up his power, his new armor is making him stronger, and just about every villain in MK hates him. Come on, he's the hero now.
Shujinko- Screw Shujinko. Konquest made me hate him and I don't like him as the new "hero" at all. May Raiden fry you're ass old man.
Sindel- I like Sindel...a lot, and would love her back. However, I want Kitana back more and Kitana needs to do something really, really bad while under Onaga's control and sadly, Sindel is the obvious candidate. I don't think she'll die, but she'll probably sit out MK7.
Tanya- Yes. After her bio suggested she would turn good, I was sooo happy to see in her ending that she is still the mega-bitch of MK. More of her feud with Jade and a potential feud with Mileena. Good stuff.

COME BACKS:
Kitana- I want Kitana back any way. But for maximum impact, like I said, she needs to do something unforgivable while under Onaga's control. Where she goes from there will be sweet.
Sareena- For Christ's sake put her in a real game for once. She has like eight potential storylines waiting for her.
Sektor- While the Black Dragon, Red Dragon, and Lin Kuei fight amongst themselves, in comes Sektor and the Tekunin to wipe them all out.
Shao Kahn- And playable. He's had his time as the boss and I would rather see him depowered, pissed and trying to regain his throne.
Quan Chi- I think Quan Chi survied Raiden's blast and I want him back.
Nitara- No reason in paticular. I just like her.
Frost- She might be dead...but Noob Saibot is running the Netherealm. And she is possibly his sister....you can figure the rest out.

Liu Kang- I'd rather he didn't come back. Especially since his ending suggests that he'll be back exactly the way he was in every other game. Either stay different, continue to change, or don't come back at all. The typical hero bit is done.
Mileena- Yes. Whether her ending happens or not I definitly want to see where Mileena goes from here. I would also like to see a potential feud with Tanya for Edenia's throne in the future. Evil bitch vs. evil bitch...I love it.
Nightwolf- Sadly, I'm still not impressed. It was worth a shot though.
Noob-Smoke- Want them both back, but seperate. Noob for obvious reasons involving Sub-Zero, Scorpion, and Sareena and Smoke because I like Smoke and I'd like him to be his own character again.
Raiden- I like the dark pissed off Raiden. Have him come back even more pissed off.
Scorpion- I like Scorpion as sort of the unlikly hero but he needs to runs into some nasty roadblocks along the way. And it is Scorpion after all...of course he'll be back.
Sub-Zero- Scorpion may be the "unlikely" hero but Sub-Zero is the new "hero" hero; they just need to make it official. The new Medallion has jacked up his power, his new armor is making him stronger, and just about every villain in MK hates him. Come on, he's the hero now.
Shujinko- Screw Shujinko. Konquest made me hate him and I don't like him as the new "hero" at all. May Raiden fry you're ass old man.
Sindel- I like Sindel...a lot, and would love her back. However, I want Kitana back more and Kitana needs to do something really, really bad while under Onaga's control and sadly, Sindel is the obvious candidate. I don't think she'll die, but she'll probably sit out MK7.
Tanya- Yes. After her bio suggested she would turn good, I was sooo happy to see in her ending that she is still the mega-bitch of MK. More of her feud with Jade and a potential feud with Mileena. Good stuff.

Sareena- For Christ's sake put her in a real game for once. She has like eight potential storylines waiting for her.
Sektor- While the Black Dragon, Red Dragon, and Lin Kuei fight amongst themselves, in comes Sektor and the Tekunin to wipe them all out.
Shao Kahn- And playable. He's had his time as the boss and I would rather see him depowered, pissed and trying to regain his throne.
Quan Chi- I think Quan Chi survied Raiden's blast and I want him back.
Nitara- No reason in paticular. I just like her.
Frost- She might be dead...but Noob Saibot is running the Netherealm. And she is possibly his sister....you can figure the rest out.
Reiko- I liked Reiko and if nothing else, so we can figure out what the hell his deal was. Personally though, I'd rather they resurrect his hinted connection to Sareena rather than continue his hinted connection to Shao Kahn. That's just me though.
Rain- The other ninjas got a makeover, why not Rain? I like him as a potential love interest for Kitana and I think that could be developed.

Jax Briggs: one of my favourites, but he definitely has to be gone. The too many good guys idea was my personal killing point for MK2,MK3 and MK4. retire him, he did his time.
Rayden-well, tought decision, he should be reformed at least. Good idea for having him become distanced from the mortals. Give him a neutrality, and a goal of preserving Earth-at any cost.
Johhny Cage: he should have a student to replace him. He has grown older, and he should retire from the movie bussiness and train new warriors for the shaolin contest of MK. This would make his figure a little bit more like grown up.

She definitely came to our world with one of the best storylines. She has potential. Im sure we will see SAREENA involved with her as her sister. There is just too much storyline power with Ashrah.

Baraka has improved so much since MkG. I think he plays a big role in the side of evil and will be a great weapon for the doom of earth.
Dairou:
Though Im not a big fan of him I actually dont care about him at all, I do think he has potential, an din order to evolve, he needs to return.
Darrius:
Same thing as Dairou. His potential needs to evolve in Mk7.
Ermac:
He returned with more then just a great storyline. I think we need to go deeper with Ermac. He has WAY too much potential, and not even half of it is being used.
Kabal:
A new Black Dragon Clan to face Red Dragons. His story I didnt like much because I liked him more as a good guy, but I do admit it has evolved. Not very impressive, but he could do major things in MK7.
Kira:
Well, many think I hate the bitch, but I dont. I think Kira was amazing in MKD. I loved her look (even if it reminded me of someone I know, but she is blond ) and her story was pretty decent.
I think she and Kabal need to return only to evolve their stories and go deeper with the Black Dragon/Red Dragon thing.
Kira has so much potential and I expect the team to use it. It bothers me to see new characters with classic rip of moves (the kiss and the cannon ball), but if they have potential, I admit it.
Kira looks original, and her story could revolve around the red dragon. It would be so cool to discover that she is truly a RED DRAGON member using Kabal and Kobra. She could be their deception and their cause of doom.
I really liked her ending, I think she should return, but this time, make her ORIGINAL BOON! No more clone/rip ofs.
Kira may return as long as she drops the Kano/Sonya clone shit, and she can evolve in a better direction if they make her a red dragon member.

Her look and storyline are without a doubt 1 of the BEST in the entire game. Mileena has so much potential, probably one of the best storylines in the entire series. She is the most wicked deceptive character of MKD, and it would be a disappointment not to see her return.

Shujinko:
He was amazing. The big blow was his lack of originality in terms of powers, etc. But his storyline and look were amazing. He was lots of potential. Make him return better then before, with his own set of moves and powers.
Rayden:
I want him to return, I think he should, he has gotten BETTER THEN EVER, but something tells me he wont be in Mk7.
His story finally evolved, he no longer is the boring protector of earth, he is now a force of good and evil actions. Rayden has evolved for the best, and he is a must.

Oh, the great Queen. Sindel made an outstanding comeback. Her story was very good, but I fear it lacked so much. She has SO MUCH potential!!!! MK TEAM ..USE IT!!!! Sindel can evolve (like Li Mei) in the most unexpected ways.
Besides, if thats not enough, they need to make her HAIR move in Mk thats a main reason.

She was AMAZING in MKD. The team made what many thought was impossible .they made Tanya one of the best .she has fans like never before! She is no longer the stupid Kitana-clone, she is now TANYA. The traitor.

I think that was a huge plus. Finally something different then the repetitive quest to avenge his death and his family. That was good. But it kind a sucked to actually portray him as the new hero. It doesnt fit him .at all.
But he was a HUGE disappointment in deception. Not only did he have boring/rip off fatalities, he also had the same repetitive boring look.
To make things worst he died .again. Thats 3 times already.
Please Boon, I know he is your fave, but let him take a rest, improve him for a future Mk, and bring him back better then ever. Scorpion has grown stale and boring.

How about giving the characters a little more depth? Anyway, let us continue:
Shujinko: In, becouse he set the DK loose on the world, and has a major role in the upcoming events I suspect. Plus, he and Rayden need to face off with each other. Maybe he would die in MK7, giving Rayden a big black boost to the evil side once again (remember his MK1 bios and ending?).
Kira-cool, female Kano and Sonya mixture with a suprising originality. We certainly wish to see her return.
Hotaru, Dairou, Havik, Kabal...an absolutely excelent idea, let Sonya face off with her greatest enemy Mavado, while Kabal interferes whereever he can. Apply Hotarus and Dairous story also, becouse the two has to have a match to the end. I love it. Havik plays a big role in the upcoming events, so he has to stay.
Darrius: this Jax outlook ripoff needs to rest, but I certainly dont wanna see him again. Not much strenght.

Cyrax and Sektor need to come back, since Cyrax is the only one real Spec.Forces agent left with Sonya (if they retire Jax already), and Sektors Tekunin is a little big for a cyborg organisation, dont you think? Eventualy the Lin Kuei will have to deal with the Red Dragon and the Tekunin, while the Black Dragon lurks in the background, meaning another great threat for Sub-Zero.
Ermac comes along nicely, i disliked him in MKT, but in MKD he rules all!

Shujinko: In, becouse he set the DK loose on the world, and has a major role in the upcoming events I suspect. Plus, he and Rayden need to face off with each other. Maybe he would die in MK7, giving Rayden a big black boost to the evil side once again (remember his MK1 bios and ending?).
Kira-cool, female Kano and Sonya mixture with a suprising originality. We certainly wish to see her return.
Hotaru, Dairou, Havik, Kabal...an absolutely excelent idea, let Sonya face off with her greatest enemy Mavado, while Kabal interferes whereever he can. Apply Hotarus and Dairous story also, becouse the two has to have a match to the end. I love it. Havik plays a big role in the upcoming events, so he has to stay.
Darrius: this Jax outlook ripoff needs to rest, but I certainly dont wanna see him again. Not much strenght.

As for Special Forces agents, i think we have:
Sonya
Jax
Cyrax
Kenshi
Kenshi never really left the Special Forces, so I assume he is still in as a member.
Jax is still alive. Cyrax is lost (never mentioned in MKD).
Sonya is the general/leader of the team.
