Okay. Yes, he's Ed Boon's favorite character, and we'll never see the end of him. Yes, for five games he did nothing but seek revenge on (insert name here), and the only interesting plot point he had, becoming Sub's protector, was retconned out. Yes, he's a ninja in every sense of the word.
But there are upsides. Quite a few, actually.
For one, as someone said, whether anyone likes it or not, Scorpion is a very big part of the MK world, and has icon status. While I CAN see MK without him, it honestly wouldn't be the same. Remember the outcry when MK3 hit?
Two, his motives for vengeance, if overused, are just. I'd be pretty pissed off if my family and comrades were murdered, and I was killed without mercy.
Three, he's improving. Despite the fact that it proved unpopular with some, Scorpion has actually become more than a revenge-crazed spectre. He's a champion for the gods now, and I never would have seen that coming in a million years. IMO, it puts him above the vendettas he's harbored for so long.
Four, his Toasty fatality. It's one of MK's most instantly recognizeable. Who can ever forget the MKII version that named it (could be done at any range)? I know I can't.
Five, the very strong prospect of a future game of his own. I asked Ed about this last Fight Night, and while I didn't get an exact response (more of a question dodge), I feel that with Shaolin Monks, they've proven that making a good MK adventure game is very possible. And also thanks to SM, they'll know to keep their plotlines straight. If...no, when, I say when this happens, it has the potential to knock our collective socks off.

Within those three words lie the very essence of MK. They're above iconic; they're legendary in the video game world.
Perhaps he is overrated. Perhaps Scorpion does not deserve the massive amount of exposure he gets.
But he sure as hell doesn't deserve to be underrated, either.

Scorpion is one of the greatest MK charactrs ever without a shout of a doubt. MK2 he wasone of the best. UMK3 one of the best. MK4 the best in the game, but his story was ruined. MKDA he's slipping. He started getting to much attention, which made him way overrated. He wasn't that good in MKDA. MKD he's pure crap. One of the wordt characters in the game. Crappy storyline, no good gameplay, but he did lose some attention to araka and Mileena, so he wasn't that overrated there. Overall I give him a:

MK3 didn't feel right at all without him, they tried to replace him with Smoke but it failed in many fans eyes.
Also I have way to many flashbacks about great matches I had at my local arcade against good Scorpion players (I didn't use him a lot personnally). I like to play against people who use Scorpion for some weird reason.

Scorpion is stolen from an old wire fu movie where a guy throws a grapp-ling claw at his opponents yelling Come here in a scene. this movie also
features a character called Liu Kang. Ken and Ryu ARE overused, they sis not even plan to include them in SF3 until the obvious choice of fan service.
When I think of MK, Scorpion is the least to pop into my mind.
Scorpion is unoriginal, he is a complete a hastened ripoff of a primordial ghost rider, spawn, etc, but thats nmot the biggest problem. He is the utter
desecration of a ninja as far as I am concerned. He should be put to a me-
aningless and fast death, so that he could not return. he lost his flare in UMK3.

You have to give credit when credit is due
However, being Boon's favourite character there is certainly some great element of bias by the Midway Team. He has been constantly revamped, again and again and it is not needed. And its weird how he is in every mortal kombat when he has hardly anything to do with the story.
His stances are good, but i prefer someone like Sub-Zero or Ermac in the way ninja's go. Good, but not great to mimic a phrase i use often.

Who cares if he is overrated... he obviously is for a reason. He has been consistently good throughout every MK game and is a really good character. People are saying that his storyline is boring but it isn't... and anywayz, MK is not about stories. If a character is a strong fighter, and just plain cool, he deserves high points. Though Scorpion is not my no. 1 favourite character (he is close though), he still easily deserves

I like Scorpion, his moves are cool and his storyline used to be as well.
But game after game his story is becoming boring and boring.
I'm optimist with him in MK:A, though.
