It's understandable that a lot of people are pissed off. Think it's safe to say that the general opinion of this is that it's a BAD thing. Hell, I don't like it myself. But guys... it's DONE. No amount of pissing and moaning is gonna change anything about this now. Not petitions. Not outraged letters. Not even boycotting MK. Abandoning the series now will probably ensure that another MK won't get made AFTER this one..but it's not gonna do a damn thing to change MK Vs DC coming this year. It's on the way, period. Is that truly what you want? Don't buy MK vs. DC and forever turn your back on a series that we all claim to love (and let's face it.. we'd have to have loved it to stick around through all the SERIOUS crap it's been through) and pretty much guarantee that another won't be made? I know that it's frustrating to not be able to have any power to change this... but is it really that serious that you all need to be so drastic in your response?
Why not try to make the best of it instead? I mean it's coming anyway right? So why be COMPLETELY miserable about it? It'd be better to find something about it that you see in a positive light. The fighting engine for example. SOUNDS (though we have to see what we end up with) as though it could be interesting as it was described in the articles and interview. Maybe you could get excited about that?
And I know that a lot of the users here are also comics fans. I am myself. So why not think about the cool match ups that will be possible? Stuff that I've SEEN debated on these forums many times over. Vs threads that were very popular (MK Vs all kinds of characters... MANY times comics characters. And now it's gonna be a reality... so is it really all bad? Also, Have you seen a good deal of the created characters people have? YouTube vids filled with Superhero knockoffs. Iron Fist, Power Girl, Superman (good lord *shakes head*), Psylocke... the list goes on. So it's ok for them to be in there if they're made in the Create a fighter mode... but it's complete blasphamy if SOMEHOW the characters the KAKs were emulating make it into the real series for a game? Why?
If you think on it... DC has a few characters that could hold their own in the MK universe. Nightwing, Huntress, Canary, Deathstroke, Lady Shiva, Joker (hell, this psychotic nut job is practically tailor made for the MK world's blood lovin' ways.), Cheshire, Arsenal, Katana, Wonder Woman (Really... who can be more brutal than a severly pissed off Wonder Woman? and her fighting skills are top notch.) And those are just off the top of my head. The only DC character that I, without question, believe is absolutely absurd for this game (out of ones mentioned) is Superman. No way does that dude belong in an MK game. BTW, now that I'm on the subject... I've seen comments to the effect of: DC isn't dark enough to be put in the same universe as MK. Oh? Ok, so it's not dark that a sadistic psycho beats a young man near death a crow bar and then blows him up? What happened to Barabara Gordon wasn't what you'd consider "dark"? Perhaps I need to re-evaluate what the word in that context means then...cause I thought that stuff was crazy.
Again.. I don't like this anymore than you do. I'm just saying, why waste so much energy and get so stressed over something that you can't control? Just try to find something about it that you can at least have a curiousity about it, if not something to actually like about it.
Who knows, if this revamp goes over well, the next MK game could be solid. Try to look at this as... sort of a testing of how the new fight system works.

I'm looking at it for what it isn't. It isn't MK8. Not how it should be anyway. I just hope they don't try and pass this off as canon in any way. If they do, I really will be mad. Right now I'm just disappointed.

I just want to know why does mk have to cater to dc.

I didn't feel too bad at first. When Boon started his interview describing two different story modes I thought there may be hope. When he said it involved DC taking over MK universe or MK taing over DC universe I lost him.
I agree that this game may be a chance for Midway to fix the gameplay errors of the past, which I will commend them for. However as a fan of the storyline they may as well shit on my face. At their chance to fix what happened in the past and start over it gets much worse.
Cheers to you Mr. Midway this bud goes out to you.

Wow, I've been on the internet a while now, and I've never seen a shitstorm like this..
.. I mean christ, its just a game after all. You never know, it could work.. probably not.. but it could.
The gameplay could be good, after watching the video it looks like they could have introduced a few new things. And hey, the graphics dont look too bad either..
So even if this game is a one off, it could pave the way for a great Next-Gen MK

Some people seriously need to chill. They act like the MK team are going to incorporate this into MK canon. This is going to be like the countless Capcom Vs. games, where events of the Vs. games were never mentioned in the main series, because they simply didn't happen.
I for one am curious to see how this game will turn out if they actually give the fighting mechanics the long deserved attention, and not try to turn this into another lame blood & gore fest.

It's like when fanatical people take a religion in the wrong way. If you don't nip it in the bud, you have another holocaust on your hands. If we buy the game, we are condoning this crap. The best thing we can do now is petition it, piss, bitch, and moan about it. That way we can just shut this wayward franchise down. They've broken promises and stabbed fans in the back too many times, and this is just total and blatant betrayal. We, as fans, need to just end MK now before it gets worse, which it will get, if we let them continue. Shut it down, so we can at least remember MK for what it used to be. I'd rather see the series die than watch it go to Hell in a hand basket.

Nice to hear some sensible peeps on here who are waiting until we actually have some details. I've been almost trying to avoid the boards on here, cos whilst I was quite dissappointed I knew the kind of moaning some people would be doing on here... I mean the thread above saying that he'd save Boon's job.... I mean really?! Let's just see what comes out... as a fair few of these guys have said, Vs. games have never been canon and if it helps develop an awesome MK game after it then why not have fun with the DC universe?
Cheers guys for talking sense and not whining like so many others on these boards! edit: Really ep13inspired... you think we should end MK... I just find that a bit sad. I mean if the new games don't suit you then don't buy it and don't bother coming on sites like this, I mean if you're not happy then what's the point (as if you could) in trying to boycott a game and ending people's jobs and the possible enjoyment many might get out of it. *sigh* But we all know that no matter how much this thread makes sense we'll always get people who don't

Take MK out of its storyline, the only thing it has left. + Take away it's gore, which is the main thing that put it on the map. + Cross it over with a franchise most fans don't care for, know anything about, or even care to know anything about. + Try to pass it off as the best thing sense sliced bread. = The worst idea in video game history.

So hang on... you're trying to suggest that things shouldn't change? I mean it might be a poor game... but until you've played it then how can you really know? Until MK put gore into a video game and introduced a fatality system there was no such thing before... it was change... and in that case it was a good thing. I'm not saying this will be, but to rule out all change is worryingly sad.

Ok, buddy, I have found some flaws in what you said.
Who says they are taking away the MK storyline?
Who says they are taking away gore? Maybe fatality's, but this game will have something similar... did you even watch the video? Seemed to have plenty of gore to me.
Seems to me alot of people care for DC.
Who says they are trying to pass it of as the best thing since slice bread... they have only released one video for fucks sakes.
And if you wanna say something... back it up with evidence mate.

You first.
Did YOU watch the video? Where the hell did you see gore? There WAS none. It was nothing but brawling. Try watching it again.
Who says they're trying to pass it off as the best thing since sliced bread? Well, that's what they do with every game now, isn't it? It's their job... no matter how shitty the concept.
As far as the storyline... first, where do you see continuity? Of necessity they pretty much have to negate what we know from sixteen years of Mortal Kombat to let established characters from another universe in and establish their presence, asides. Second, this all assumes that the story is going to be canon, which we don't even know if it will be yet, though let's be real... Team MK interrupted their work on retroactively adding bios to the characters from Armageddon to "work" on this mess instead of actually coming up with new characters and storylines for a new actual MK game, so they must be dumb enough to think fans will swallow this lazy nonsense as canon.
If you want to blindly support this slap in the face to MK fans for whatever reason, I can't stop you. But don't then come with teh stupid and get defensive when somebody points out the obvious deficiencies which make this a massively shitty idea. As I've said before and will continue to say, until the assholes in Chicago put some effort into making an actual MK game, I'm done.

I have to admit, I didn't see Street Fighter fans slitting their wrists when Street Fighter Vs X-Men was announced.
I can understand the outrage to a degree.
We were all expecting MK8 not a spin off featuring superheroes. And now we are confused and scared by something new and very different from anything before.
The MK guys hyped fans up for a real sequel which wiped the slate clean. This is just a spin off, albeit an interesting one.
The potential loosing of blood and fatalities means that a potential new avenue for DC characters is left unexplored and the MK characters could feel neutered. Christ, people wanted to see Superman eye laser the crap out of his opponent. and that ain't happening.
As someone said on another message board:
MK without gore and fatalities is just another fighting game.
Mind you another person said after watching the trailer:
Dude, Sub-Zero threw Batman through a wall and leapt after him and started punching him in the face as they were falling then Batman got the upper hand and punched him back and then jumped on his spine as they hit the ground.
this is the greatest thing that has ever happened.
As for me, like I said on the 22 page massacre, I've never liked comic book V video game character brawls. But the concept will allow Team MK to work on the story for the next real MK game while working out kinks in the game engine.
I'm now more worried about the gameplay, it doesn't look to have moved on from Armageddon at all.
And I didn't think the graphics were all that good either.

OK, just re-watched the video.
Let's try to clarify a couple of things here: You say you saw a "ton of blood", a knee to the back and someone being thrown through a wall. A knee to the back and being thrown through a wall does not constitute gore, it constitutes a brawl, as I previously noted. And yes, OK, there was blood, not a "ton" of it like you said. In fact, it was blood done realistically, not the over-the-top 10 gallons of blood spurting out for every slap that MK is known for. Truth be told, I've always wanted to see MK go more realistic. NOT MK AND DC AND WHOEVER ELSE BOON MAY WANT TO SELL OUT TO.
I think that's the point being missed here. While we're all still on the outskirts of having received the news of the "next installment", some people are throwing all sorts of other shit into the conversation, and we're misunderstanding each other. Let me state unequivocally: For me, the gameplay, at least what we know of it so far, is not what I have a beef with. If you're willing to accept finally-improved gameplay and giving us most everything else they (TeamMK) promised us at the expense of their staying within the MK franchise that brought them all their success, then that's on you. To me, it reeks of so much contrarianism and "Hey, look, we all ZWERVED you, aren't we so cool?" Look, I like DC Comics, despite all the silliness (like the 52 series and Crisis on Infinite Earths). When I'm in a DC mood, I'll pick up a comic. When I'm in the mood for MK, I pop in one of the games and get to playing. I'm not going to accept this game on its own terms just because there's a growing number of people who think this is somehow a good move on TeamMK's part.
Let me throw in one more thing while I'm at it: Addressing the obvious crossover comparison with Marvel vs. Capcom. With MvC, you weren't dealing with two universes that were so disparate from each other that a crossover would be unseemly. Both feature very colorful characters with stories that were over-the-top, but not (until recently, e.g. Marvel's Civil War) too serious. There were more similarities than differences, so they meshed better. With MK vs. DC, you're talking about one universe built on blood and fatalities (whether or not one considers them to be mere gimmicks is immaterial here) versus another universe that, while not "happy happy and super-bright and colorful" as some DC detractors here have excitedly claimed, is still not dark, gritty and deadly like the other is. It's an incongruity that leaves a bad taste in the mouths of those of us who were expecting so much more than what's being forced on us.
That's what I have to say.

What I want to say in response to the TS is; I do want another MK game like the others and hell yeah I don;t like this idea but if I don't go out and buy this one and they have poor sales and decide to close MK forever, should that prompt me to go and buy a game I generally do not want?
You gotta make a product that the fans want, if this game is a success, then fine, make another and cater to the fans that like this new change and the rest of us that don't, well, we will always have our memories I guess.
Good thread though by the way.
