Hey guys, I think that one of the best characters of the Mortal Kombat franchise has been Raiden, or Rayden, i duno how you spell it... Ive seen it in both ways actually...
well anywayz, Raiden has been a great deal for Mortal Kombat and he has been effecting the storyline of MK a lot!
Also ive never seen anybody complain about him, well there is no reason to anyway, he is usually put into the game in a really good way; with his moves, design, presentation... he's been excellent all of the time. especially in MK:DA both of his outfits were really cool, you could tell that they've put in a lot of effort into him, his fighting styles and moves were really great too... and they electricity going through his body has always been so original, ive never got bored of it!
If they can design another Raiden like the MKDA one, they should include him in MK:Deception too!

Do you Agree?

I agree, Raiden is like an icon in Mortal Kombat

this post is kind of a no brainer question here, Raiden will definatley be in this new game, complete with his whole arsenal of ass shocking moves along with who knows what else?

There should not be a Mortal Kombat the does not have Raiden/Rayden attatched to it in one way or another. Just wouldn't be right. Period.

i think raiden will gather everyone together again to fight the dragon king. but this new girl ashrah looks alot like an early raiden outfit so it leads me to beleave that she will fight in his place. what do u all think about that idea?

They will never drop Raiden. He is too involved in the story to all of a sudden disappear and have a new character like ashrah take his place.
It would piss off too many people.

But on that note, I personally wouldn't care if they got rid of Raiden, I've never really cared for him too much. Especially in DA.

He had the worst control in DA, it was almost like he was too...um...rigid or something.

Although his outfit in MK2 kicked some serious ass!

I couldn't have said it better myself, TomTaz!

Raiden must be in MKD! He's a cast original and a fan favourite. He's my favourite character and he is important to the story. He is the leader of the Forces of Light and must be there to guide and instruct the Earth warriors in the upcoming battle against evil.

Raiden is a staple of the series. Another of the unique characters that no other fighter game has. The electricity, his presence, his style and outfits. All unique. Everything about him is cool.

He does need a little storyline change as hes been doing the same thing for awhile now. A little more of Raidens history would be good to know. And a new turn of events for him would make his story even more interesting.

One way or another, I think it's certain Raiden will be involved. If this new girl's taking over from him as a fighter, then he'll be in the cutscenes and side story for sure.

Raiden is a must for MKD. He's the leader and mentor to the fighters and the storyteller for us. I do admit he seemed a little stiff in MKDA, but so were many of the characters. A little tweaking should be able to fix that and they already said they are working to make the gameplay smoother and faster.

In regards to Ashrah, there is no way she would be able to replace Raiden. Its like expecting Frost to replace Sub-Zero. They may be similiar, but they are two different characters. Ashrah might be a relative of the thunder god, someone the Elder Gods sent to watch/punish Raiden, or perhaps a protector of one of the recently released realms who has just regained her powers. This is assuming that she is a goddess, unless I am mistaken there is no word on this yet. For all we know she could be some sort of priestess or just someone with similiar taste in clothing as Raiden.

I don't see Midway attempting to replace Raiden anytime soon. They already tried once and quickly changed their minds. (Remember Fujin?) Perhaps its because we have all become familiar with the thunderer more than any other character, since it is more often than not his voice we hear. We might hear Shao Khan or Scorpion once in a while, but it is Raiden who talks to his fighters (and us as the audience/player).

No one can or should attempt to replace/remove the one and only GOD OF THUNDER!

He is the only MK character that should ALWAYS be involved in an MK game whether he is or not playable.

True, but I would rather have him as a fighter than just a storyteller. What fun would it be if you couldn't make a thunder god do what you want.

I like Rayden, but I think they changed him too much in MK:DA. He look too bulky and slow. Hed have a couple of cool shocking moves, but He just wasn't same untouchable Rayden I love and didn't have his torpedo move. He looked old.

I definitley think Rayden will be involved in MK:D, but I'm not sure how involved he will be. I think it might be like MK3, he wont be playable but heavily involved in the story. eother way Rayden will not be missing from MK:D. He just might not be playable.

Raiden is the name of a real God that is worshipped/feared by some and is used in the arcade/midway gaming. Rayden is his name changed by Nintindo because of religious reason from the Japanese programmers. (Or vise versu and it really is Rayden, not sure which is correct anymore) I think that is what I read awhile back when it first came out on home systems; back in '92 or '93?. I agree with everyone of you!!! He is an absolute must to keep MK going!!! A must!!!!

No... he was named Rayden because there was a game out at the time called Raiden Trad and it had rights to the name.

Rayden kicks ass! It would be dramatic to see him die, it would add a cool twist, but I want him back.

Yeah MK3 he was just a story teller (no longer can I interfere). It would be crazy if he was actually destroyed but that would probbly mean impending doom for all earth warriors.. and thus, no more mortal kombat.

Rayden/Raiden had two different spellings for a few reasons. One there was another game out there called Raiden and Midway didn't want to take a chance on copyright infringement and/or confusion of characters. Another is when the games got sent to consoles, the companies that Midway gave the rights too would change the spelling for some reason or another.

However, the MK character Rayden/Raiden is loosely based off a Shinto/Japanese diety called Ryujin who is one of the Raijin (a group of storm gods). Ryujin was the one of the more important ones and was often represented as a dragon. (No, Raiden is NOT the Dragon King.) Note: The three storm guys from Big Trouble in Little China were based off of the Raijin, and Raiden's look was based off of the lighting guy.
