When was smoke confirmed?

I would like for smoke to be mostly ninja, but with a few remnants of his ordeal with the Lin Kuei still attached to his body. He should have some sort of smoke bombs, maybe to make him temporarily invisible. I wouldn't mind if he could even turn into vapor or smoke. That would be sweet. Check out my Smoke drawing in the fan art forum for an idea of what I mean.

As far as i know there is no confirmation, no pic no movie clip or no written info from Midway or similar trustworthy contacts.
At the end of the day i'll believe it when i See it. ;)

Yes, I would like for Smoke to be in the game. He is a wild card, and a powerful ally to Subby.

I am quite glad to see Smoke back, as I've wanted him back since MK3. Interesting note by Konqrr is that he will be in the game, but neither Cyber nor Human.

Will he be a spectre like Scorpion? A ghost? or did he strike up a deal with some divine being to escape his robot body at the cost of his humanity? And what role will he play in this new form?

P.S. I hope to see the trident spear.

If Smoke has the spear back, I either want it to be the Cyber-Smoke trident spear, or one of the "spears" that Scorpion had in the other forms of media, such as the ball-and-chain version of the spear from the Malibu comics, or that serpent version in the MK movie.

The storyline behind Smoke (I'm gonna put this up for everyone to take information from):

Smoke, like the two Sub-Zeros, is an assassin for the Lin Kuei clan. He is very good friends with the younger Sub-Zero.

MK2
When the older Sub-Zero was rumored to be dead and the Lin Kuei heard that Shang Tsung was still alive, they immediately sent the younger brother to complete the task his sibling had failed. Smoke was concerned for his friend's safety, and unknown to everyone in the clan, Smoke secretly followed Sub-Zero into the Outworld. He made sure to keep safely hidden in the shadows so as not to alarm his friend, clan, or anyone else of his prescence. Throughout the battles, Smoke remained hidden, protecting Sub-Zero wherever he went. When the battles were over, Smoke returned to the Lin Kuei. Nobody ever knew he was there.

MK3
The Lin Kuei had just begun to transform their assassins into cyborgs. Sub-Zero and Smoke, however, refuse to allow themselves to be automated. This is a show of disrespect, and both of them are marked for death. Smoke and Sub-Zero attempt to escape, and Sub-Zero succeeds. Unfortunately, Smoke is apprehanded and forced to be automated into a cyborg. He is left a soulless killer with no memory of his life. His orders from the lin Kuei are to accompany the cyborg assassins Cyrax and Sektor in their mission to kill Sub-Zero. The 3 robots search and search for him, and finally find him. Sub-Zero has no problem fending off Cyrax and Sektor, but he believes that Smoke is still a human soul. Through their fight, Sub-Zero manages to convince Smoke that he still has a soul, and all of a sudden Smoke retains his old memories back! No longer is he a soulless cyborg. He helps Sub-Zero in defeating Sektor and Cyrax. They leave Sektor battered on the floor, but decide to reprogram Cyrax to help the Earthrealm warriors kill Outworld. Smoke himself decides to aid the warriors in dispatching Shao Kahn. When the battle is over, Smoke decides to wander away from Sub-Zero and anyone else.....he's still trapped in his cybernetic body and God knows where he's wandered to...

You would have to ask the mods and admins, as that's who I got my info from. There was also a thread about it by another user, who deserves props.

In the PSM pictures, a grey ninja, most likely Smoke, can be seen on the Nethership. It`s just a cartoon figure not an actual render from the game. However, Bo Rai Cho is there also so who knows if this is signifigant.

With all the pictures arising of Sub-Zero, I`m under the impression he`s playing a huge role in this whole deception title. I wouldn`t be surprised if he has Quan Chi`s amulet and has fused it with his. You will notice there`s green blood splatter on the new pictures. Are they his or Scorpion`s? Fishy!

I point this out because Smoke could have the purpose of tracking down this Lin Kuei member gone bad.

I thought about that too Outworld, and I think the reason why he's not going to be cyborg or human is because the creators wanting to make a point of him being totally different this game. They too were probably tired of all the Pallette Swap debates, so they're giving him a complete overhaul. I guess we're just going to have to use our imaginations until we get Smoke's official render.

I just hope he comes back in his ninja form. I dont think its gonna happen, but I cant see him being anything else. (I hated Cyborg so much)

Logically SMOKE will be just that, Smoke! (assuming he is neither human nor robot). He could appear as a smoky being in the same way Blaze appears as a fire being. Perhaps Smoke could be like a kind of Genie or Djinn. Here I am not regarding previous stories, as we know they are always what if scenarios anyway.

He could teleport I guess, you could see the smoke disappear and reappear in a different area, sort of like Raiden's electricity in MK1. He could fire smoke into the opponents eyes, temporailly blinding them and leaving them open to a combo.

I wasn't personally too fussed on Smoke but there are possibilities I admit (same as EVERYONE else for that matter)

I actually picture smoke the same way you said it.

I imagine him being just smoke. A huge blob of smoke, in the shape of blaze, with arm pads and such. I cant describe more on how i imagine him, but its pretty sweet. But it looks like we'll just have to find out how he looks like when MKD comes out. He must have a really cool distinctive look, just like subzero, noob, and ermac.

IF he have unique moves, he will be a nice addition that's for sure

I hope he doesnt look anything like blaze, I want a detailed fighter, even if he does have to look like a ninja.

I actually think he should look relatively similar to sub-zero. Same clan, close allies.

thats not a bad idea, he should kind of resemble sub zero with his traditional smoke coming out of his body. And I think the smoke bombs would also be a great idea (forgot who said it in thread).

It may be common knowledge now, but I am not really a Smoke fan. I always saw him as "the other guy". In MK2, he was the other Lin Kuei ninja, in MK3, he was the other cybernetic ninja. I really didn't like him as he seemed to be too unoriginal and basic. The only reason I think he's bvack is because of his popularity, which I think is a big mistake.

Recently we've seen statements which state Mavado is not in the game. Nor Nitara or Cyrax, yet we Smoke. I'm not against Smoke being in the game, but I think he should have been one of the last people added to give characters NEEDING to return to do so.

Just glad the man is back and that he is neither human nor cyborg.
