In an article in the new Game informer, there is an interview with Steve Beran, The Character Designer for MK:D. The Article is as follows:

In MK:D we wanted to introduce new characters, bring back the MK:DA favorites and revive many classic characters from earlier MK games. Baraka, Mileena, Noob, Smoke, Tanya, Ermac, Nightwolf, Sindel and Kabal are all making their way into MK:D. there are more that I can't reveal quite yet. the returning characters will still have their moves. We were loyal in keeping the basic character concepts the same, but introduced new design elements and details that make them revitalized and fresh. Devoted fans of these characters will not be disappointed.

There you have it! Straight from the horses mouth! Another Paragraph comes from Herman Sanchez. The character designer for MK:D. It reads: Joimning the classic MK roster will be Kira, a new member of the black dragon; Ben, a professional martial-arts world champion; Dairou, a ronin samurai with a score to settle; Ashrah, a mystical demon huntress, and ..... well, we have to save some surprises for you, don't we? Liu Kang also returns in 2 forms, a ghost and a zombie! According to Luis Mangubat who is also a character designer.

That is pretty awesome. Im glad to hear they still have some surprises which means there are still hopes for KITANA! since they said they will bring back the MKDA favorites.
Yeeeeesss!!!! Man thats good news!! I'm glad Smokes back! I'm not bothered If It's human Smoke or robot Smoke, I really like them both

There is also news of a combo breaker-type of move in the article called a break out move!

There are screen shots of 2 death traps previouisly unseen. one is the molten metal stage and the other is falling off of the oriental-style building. Both look very good. There is also a drawing of a third. It's called the rock crusher death trap. A large, steel dragon-like head closes on the victim. that's all it shows. There is also an example of a new fatality talked about in here. You Quan Chi fans will love this one. Carlos Pesina says: One example would be the fatality in which the attacker ruips the opponents arms off and then beats him with them!!!!!

There's even more talk about death traps. Mike Taran, the Background Designer says: As for stage fatalities, you will see opponents get burried in rock avalanches, smashed with giant steel presses, ripped to shreds with grinders, eaten by giant slugs(illustration shows what looks like Sub-Zeros board), gored with spikes, shaved into chunks with spinning blades, boiled in lava, impailed on stalagmites, or cut to pieces by lasers.....Awww yea!

It has a drawing of Kira. She's a very shapely redhead with what looks like a black leather athletic bra on, red leggings, a black belt like kanos. you only see one of her eyes because her hair is covering the other one. Maybe she has an eye like Kano.

Great news. Thanks for the info!

The molten metal death trap was already leaked, however (German OPM); but still, good to hear a final confirmation on Smoke and to hear more about the role of Ashrah.

Kira sounds like a nice name, only I don't like the idea of another black dragon. Can these guys never die? ;)

Liu Kang as a zombie eh? Perhaps he will be the big deceiver, then...

Does this mean that Liu Kang is possibly the Dragon King? (he can transform into a dragon) I'd rather not he be DK, but if he is, and if he looks badass and has some amazing powers, I wouldnt mind. MKD keeps getting better and better with all this new info!

Kira sounds awesome, and the death traps seem amazing. I cant wait to play this.

As for liu kang, well atleast hes not coming back in his human form. Him coming back already kinda made me pissed.

But smoke is in da houze, so its all good. Thanks again.

There's also a render of Sub-Zero on one of the pages. I would expect it to be the next render on the official MK:D site. There is also a sketch of Bo Rai Cho one one of the pages. There's not much to say about it. He still looks like Bo Rai Cho.

So there are more classics coming back that they cant reveil yet and some of the MKDA faforites.... hmmmm, this article gives me more hope in a good character select screen after all. BTW. Kira sounds like a cool name for an MK character.

Ben sounds lame, and my guess is he'll be a palette swap for Johnny Cage.

But we'll wait and see.

and I hope that Kira doesn't have a face like Kano.
