So how will regular fighting work?

But they're different. Chun Li is faster than Ryu and Ken. Guile is a bit slower than the karate gi guys. They all are different
All the MK characters move at the exact same speed. Only the bosses are different.
See what I'm saying?
btw, I stopped quoting because it got really fucked up along the way lol

No, they're really not that all different overall. And it's the same with MK and other fighting games, most characters will move at "the same estimated speed" due to the engine except for a few characters.
If you have someone move "too different" then the games not going to work and that's when you have broken or unbalanced characters.
They don't move at the same exact speed, why you think that puzzles me honestly. Flash doesn't move the same speed as Batman due to special moves, nor does Sonya move the same as say Superman. For character animations, all fighting game characters move at the same speed. You can't alter a characters speed too much in a fighting game because it won't balance things out overall. Example, the older MK's worked well and were different because the special moves showed the difference in speed, range etc, etc. In MK and SF's case, characters that have special moves and even SSBB that will define a characters speed if they have a dash, teleport or some kind of evade attack. Example, take MKA Hotaru vs. Tanya. Overall the characters move at similar speeds, but Hotaru's moves make him faster during gameplay because he has "fast specials" you have to remember that. You seem to be ignoring the fact of specials and certain attacks.

Yeah... Street Fighter's a terrible example of MK-style uniformity because in most aspects they all have different priorities, ratios and details. Wow!
MK fans probably don't recognise it because it's almost like they tried to apply an individual logic to each character. Bizzare!

Not really bizarre since it worked well....

You missed his point there.
He's being sarcastic, saying that MK fans wouldn't understand the speed differences in street fighter and other games because MK's characters tend to be pretty similar overall, aside from the special moves.
In other games you get the
weak and fast
med and med
strong and slow
That includes overall movement, specials, combo ability etc.
MK is more limited in that idea of variance between character play styles. Overall move sets, not just the specials.
Not really a bad thing, it's just a design preference / observation.
The MK team tends to keep things more simple / general is all.

I understand what he meant, a lot of people don't take him seriously because of "his sense of humor" but yeah....I totally understand, what I'm saying is it's not necessary and that's what leads to characters being unbalanced and what not. Example, SC4 Yoda is unbalanced and slow...he's weak with fighting, yet at the same time you can't hit him easily no throw him like you can everyone else.
Obviously we all have our preferences just my opinion here, You don't really have to have a lot of move sets to have a good fighting game(some people like tons, others not to much), the older Mk's were simplistic as was SF and both rocked the 2D world. Not saying to ignore what hardcore players want either, but if they appeal too much to the "hardcore gamer" the casual gamer will be turned off and vice-versa.
