Gamepot's review states that Quan Chi and Shang Tsung are still alive after the intro movie. "The first thing you'll see when the game loads up is an intro cinema that brings you up to speed on what's been going on since the last game. You'll discover that, unsurprisingly, Shang Tsung and Quan Chi really can't just get along. However, their broken alliance is reforged when a new menace arrives in Outworld to remind folks that they may not be able to get along, but they better learn if they want to survive against a foe who can kill them all. (Truly a lesson for life.)"

you also forgot
If you're looking for an online fighting game for the PlayStation 2 or Xbox this fall, you would do well to consider Mortal Kombat Deception. The game is a welcome addition to the PlayStation 2's online lineup and a good complement to the Xbox's fall brawling roster that includes Dead or Alive Ultimate. Mortal Kombat Deception is currently slated to ship this October, in regular and limited edition versions, for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox. A GameCube version will follow and, while it will lack online play, will include some bonus content such as extra characters to flesh out the package.
i bet a riot is gonna come

WHAT!?!? (Screams, banging my head into my desk, looks over, stares at PS2, wants to throw it out the window!!!!)
Hahaha I'm glad I got PS2, Xbox and Gamecube
. For all those that don't just rent the GC and the game. I bet the extra characters will be Quan-Chi and Shang Tsung and Reptile or Sareena/Kitana.
Where are the mods? Hmmmm... they really should make this into an update.

Wait? What the hell? I think that GS is mistaken, because I don't think that Midway would give the GC version more characters, that would be ridiculous. We knew the GC would get some extra features, but more characters? *packs bags for Chicago* I'll be outside the Midway building getting ready for the riot.

Actually I think it is a good reason to give the GC version exclusive characters. It comes out early 2005 and it wont have online play. There has to be some GOOD reason to get it on GC.

Sure it's a great insentive to go out and buy the GC version, but what about the majority of the players who are on the other two consoles? I figured it would be the MK1 arcade port and something else, but extra characters? I just think it's not fair to the rest of us. That's all...

Check the last paragraph of the XBOX preview. It says, "A GameCube version will follow and, while it will lack online play, will include some bonus content such as extra characters to flesh out the package." The last paragraph of the PS2 preview says, "A GameCube MK:D will follow. While it will lack online play, it will include some bonus content that will help flesh out its package."
Who knows...

Hmm. I never thought of a download option for the additional characters for both PS2 and XBOX later on. That way everyone would be happy.

Why is this suprising you, this isnt the first time MK has done exclusive characters, the Chameleon/Khameleon character was a console exclusive. Its not that big of a deal.
