I have a feeling that Noob Saibot is waiting at the other end of the portal. Here are my (speculated) reasons:

1. According to info in the krypt, it says that the portal is the gateway "to the realms". In our MK history, we know only of 3 realms - earthrealm, outworld, and the netherrealm. I think it is the netherrealm.

2. If it is true that the whisper in the krypt stands for "time eyes will lead you to Saibot", then this could be evidence that the 12:43 thing is connected to Noob Saibot in some way.

3. One more reason why I think it could be Noob. In MK Mythologies, before Sub Zero travelled to the netherrealm to retrieve the amulet, Raiden warned him about "The Brothers of the Shadow". In the MK Trilogy storyline, we discovered that along with Shinnok, Noob Saibot was also a member of the "Brothers of the Shadow". With that, connecting the portal to realm to whisper info, it could very well be Noob Saibot lurking around the portal, if there is in fact a hidden fighter at the portal stage, like MK2!

Anyway, this is all speculation. We still need to know what to do with the portal sphere. Info in the krypt says that to pass, one must FIRST (signifying that it is not the only method warranted) defeat a representation of his most powerful adversary!

Guys guys guys! I figured it out!!!
Oh my god!!!!

I figured out that there is no final secret!
There you go.

If you think about it from a marketing stand point, Midway would have released the secret already. End of story.

In one of the comical pictures in the Krypt. Kenshi's is "Kenshi's Glass Eyes". There are six or eight I believe, and one of them says "12:43".

Info in the krypt says that the portal is the gate to 'the realms'.
Further info says that to gain the right to pass, "one must 1st defeat a representation of one's most powerful enemy". The keyword is '1st'. That means it is a part of a bigger puzzle.
Info on the portal stage says that "only few know where the portal lies, and fewer know how to use the power of the portal sphere". This means beating a certain opponent is just the first step. There must be a code to this portal sphere thing. The 12:43 thing could be a clue.

I agree there with you man about the Keyword is '1st'.I actually thought that it could mean that beat your deadliest adversery on the first fight of Arcade then enter a Key Combonation somewhere.I think that there is a big chance that this could be the Answer.

Let's not forget that Quan Chi used the amulet to open the portal.

IJ Quan Chi's Amulet
Quan Chi has discovered that his amulet is the key to inter-realm travel and much more. It is possibly as old as the realms themselves and acts
as a key to unlock and control the many ancient portals throughout reality.

Other info collected to be considered:

BL Portal Sphere
Physical manifestations of the magic that merges one realm to another, these Portal Sphere orbs are hidden throughout Outworld by Shao Kahn. To separate two realms, the orb associated with that merger must be destroyed.

FD Portal Story (This is a lit koffin)
A portal known only to sorcerers and deities. The Portal transports beings from one realm to another. To earn the right to pass, however, one must first defeat a representation of his or her most powerful adversary.

MN Portal
The Portal lies hidden in a blanket of fog. Only a few know of the location, and fewer know how to use the power of the Portal Sphere. The Portal is a gate to The Realms

AI Quan Chi's Tattoos (This is a lit koffin)
Upon finding the ancient rune stones while in the 5th plane of the Netherealm, Quan Chi magically bruned some of the information pertaining to his amulet onto his skin.

AX Quan Chi's Inner Sanctum
Quan Chi uses this chamber to periodically recharge himself or to protect his physical form wihle projecting his consciousness to distant locations

SN Quan Chi
Stranded in the Netherealm, Quan Chi was persistently tormented by the ninja spectre Scorpion. But with assistance from Moloch and Drahmin, Quan Chi discovered the truth about the amulet he had stolen from the fallen Elder God Shinnok. An ancient runestone bearing the likeness of his amulet revealed new information that would enable Quan Chi to traverse the realms through a network of ancient gateways. Narrowly
evading Scorpion's wrath, he escaped the Netherealm through one of these gateways and emerged in an ancient tomb in Outworld.

QZ Quan Chi's Fortress
The interior of Quan Chi's stronghold (upper level) is based on the phrase 'omnipotence is at the boundary between opposites' it features the
fighting arena on the right and Quan Chi's inner sanctum in 'centerfield.' The inner sanctum is a place, protected by magical runes, where Quan
Chi leaves his body as he astroplanes to other spheres of existence.

SW Alternate Outfit: Drahmin
Drahmin had led Quan Chi to a structure that housed the remnants of ancient tablets and runestones dating back to the creation of the realms. Quan Chi's eye was caught by a tablet with an image that bore a striking resemblance to his amulet. The engraved writing revealed the amulet's hidden power to control inter-realm portals. Breaking his promise, Quan
Chi betrayed Moloch and Drahmin and used the amulet to escape the Netherealm without them. Unkonwn to Quan Chi, however, the two Oni
also escaped and are now thirsty for revenge.

PS Moloch the Hobbyist
In between hunting down his prey and swinging his Giant Ball of Death, Moloch has plenty of free time to pursue his hobbies. He enjoys building fine miniature ships for his keeper Shang Tsung, who is impressed by Moloch's patience and attention to detail

XY Shang Tsung's Palace Story
In return for reviving the mummified army of the Dragon King, Quan Chi unlocked the ancient portal to The Heavens for Shang Tsung. The result is a green swirl of tortured souls. Shang Tsung will now have access to an unlimited number o souls to sustain his life force forever

NV Kenshi's Glass Eyes (Picture has 6 eyes. Kombat symbol, Metallic with two red dots, Eight Ball, Blue Eye, Clear Eye with 12:43 in green on it, and a Reptile Eye)
Don't let an unfortunate blinding accident cramp your style. Whether you've always wanted blue eyes, or would like to add some whimsy to your wardrobe with an 8-ball in the right socket, Kenshi's Glass Eyes have the 'look' for you.

Well, if Noob Saibot is going to be the secret, then shouldn't we be looking at the tomb?

Hear me out here.

Noob is part of the 'Brotherhood of the Shadow' that worshipped Shinnok (MK: Trilogy). Shinnok was banished to the Netherealm by the elder gods. Quan Chi returned to the Netherealm when he tried to send Scorpion there (MK4 ending).
In the opening video we see Quan Chi escaping the Netherealm through a giant version of his amulet and landing inside the Tomb where we also see another gian version of that amulet.

I'm guessing those giant amulets are kinda like portals also.

Just a thought...

ok read those. it talks about it being hidden in fog and its in a location....... now think about where there is fog and where you can acctually explore the mk world. in konquest mode right? and wut do you do in konquest mode at the end? you fight a mirror match (maybe the powerful aversary?) and then finnally is talks about the 5th plane. maybe its near the 5th stage of konquest. im thinkings you have to fight your mirror match then go again to konquest and maybe turn off the path into the fog to find the portal, only problem is knowing where to turn off.

I dont want to get involved in another disussion about wether or not theres a "final secret", but your all missing something vitally important here.
While its true that the secrets did take quite a while to all come out for the first coule of mks, this is an entirely different era.
There wasnt hard copies of the game for people to explore when those came out, the only way to find secrets was to FIND SECRETS.
Nowadays any game can be extracted from its disk, and the files can be scrutinized...which I assure you many people, including myself have ripped the disk image apart looking for any hint on a secret.

While its definately possible that there something to be found, (like a version code, etc), there really is almost no chance whatsoever that theres another character, or stage on the disk.

The sound files for those features would have to be on the disk, and they arent.
Every audio, video, 3d model, and texture file has been pretty much fully accounted for already when the DVDRip hit the net.
Its nice to beleieve theres something else in there, but really....dont you think one of the 100 people that have explored the disk data would have found it by now??

In Konquest Mode when Quan Chi gets to his mirror match the text is:

After slaying the Emperor, Shao Kahn, Quan Chi and Shang Tsung attempted to travel to Earthrealm by way of a celestial portal known only to sorcerers and deities. Although Quan Chi could reveal the cloaked portal with his amulet, he could not use the artifact to control it. To earn the right to pass, each sorcerer would have to defeat a representation of his greatest adversary. For Quan Chi, that challenge came in the form of himself.

To Ghackereb, a good point on the fact that nothing new has been found by "hacking" the disk with a dvd-rom. In otherwords, that no new arenas, or audio files, 3D models, or videos have been found. BUT...............this is MK we are talking about, so either these files could be hidden, or the MK development team could have resorted to old school style MK secrets, in otherwords not giving the "secret" a personality of its own! Let me specify:

Assuming that there is a hidden fighter, they could just have a rip off of one of the other fighters, and give him / her similar fighting styles of the other fighters (like Noob Saibot, who is basically another fighter, but black, or like smoke and Jade in MK2, who were based on other fighters). Noob was just a darkened Kano in MK3! So this could explain the lack of any new 3D models.
As for audio files, perhaps the hidden fighter (if there is one) isn't "called out" by the announcer. Like Noob Saibot in MK4 - if you won as him, the announcer never said "Noob Saibot wins". It would just be silent.

And if there was a hidden arena, it could be a remake of another arena, but at another time of day (eg Drum Arena, at night), and these arenas could have the same audio files of other MK arenas!
So keep your fingers crossed! There still may be stuff to discover, even if those damn hackers suggest otherwise!

Ok....this just in..according senior editor D'Arque Bishop, the 12:43 thing was simply at what time the artist who did the "Kenshi's Glass Eyes" image finished rendering it. So I guess if this is true, then perhaps it has no relevance what so ever.
But what about the whispers in the krypt? Could the people who heard have been mistaken (not flaming, just speculating).
Well, lets continue our quest to solve the puzzle at the portal stage. We still need to know what to do after "defeating our most powerful adversary".
But can't help the feeling that something in the game is still locked somewhere. Dang!

That's just the first step. I have tried doing that in 2 player mode, with 2 out of 3 rounds and 3 out of 5 rounds, and nothing happens. Tried getting all flawless and still nothing happened.
There's still something left to do with that portal sphere. Like you said, only few know the location of the portal, and "fewer know how to use the power of the portal sphere". We all know where the portal is located. Half of it is exposed in the distance. But the portal sphere!!! How do you tackle that problem?!?!
It's like you have to tap in a code after defeating your opponent. Or maybe it's that "12:43" thing. Perhaps it's attack buttons 1-2-4-3? Well I tried that too - nothing happened : (

hmmm...maybe when you switch into fatality stance and if a character looks at the portal, quickly hit 1-2-4-3.

Maybe we should just forget about looking for a secret in the portal stage. Remember the thing about the drum arena and that one big guy you were supposed to fight after a tie? I mean, maybe they wanted to put some secret into the portal stage, but they didn't have enough time for it. Just like in the drum arena. So we're all searching for something, that was supposed to be there (and still left hints to find it), but wasn't finished.
