The mystery is in the portal stage, not the krypt!

Instead of straining our senses in the krpyt (trying to hear what the whispers are or hoping to see some ninja running around), or even cracking our heads with that darn 12:43 thing, I think the real mystery is in the portal stage. Pity nobody asked about it at fight night.
From the info within the game, there are basically 2 steps:

1. Defeat a representation of your most powerful adversary

2. Tap in some code to access the portal sphere.

With regards to the first, from playing konquest mode, we know the following combinations:

Shang Tsung vs Quan Chi
Quan Chi vs Quan Chi
Mavado vs Sonya

There were a couple more, but can't remember them (sorry!). Anyway, with regards to the 2nd requirement (the portal sphere thing), does anybody have any clue what to do? According to info from the krypt one must shatter it separate the realms, but in the opening video clip it didn't seem like you had to shatter it. Anybody feel free to jump in at any time............................

I can't help at all unless Drahmin and "cheese" have some kind of meaning.

I just hope you are right.

Yo, mind explaining this further, more in detail.

You might be onto something, but where did you hear that?

Info in the krypt says that the portal is the gate to 'the realms'.
Further info says that to gain the right to pass, "one must 1st defeat a representation of one's most powerful enemy". The keyword is '1st'. That means it is a part of a bigger puzzle.
Info on the portal stage says that "only few know where the portal lies, and fewer know how to use the power of the portal sphere". This means beating a certain opponent is just the first step. There must be a code to this portal sphere thing. The 12:43 thing could be a clue.

Tjhat's an interesting theory! You should keep us posted on how it turns out! Maybe you have to defeat that person on that stage or something! Although we'd have to figure out if it is to be done on versus or arcade mode.

Yeah. It had had best be a good one after keeping us waiting for so long! It's getting really irritating not knowing what it is.

I have talked to one of the Development Team guys, at Midway. I've asked about this "final secret" like three times in different ways. The answers has gone some kind like this:

"I don't know what the so called "last secret" is. Things about the game are known so quickly that I doubt there's one left. Time will tell, though."

I don't know if a guy who actually worked one the game saying "he doesn't know" tells you something. However, is someone who did not programmed in it (you need to be a programmer to actually *program a "secret"). That, I think, opens the opportunity to say that there may be a last secret. But being honest, I don't think there's one, personally.

Mortal Kombat 6? began development beginning 2003, expect to see progress this year, and then the final version in 2004, that one might be packaged with what we all want!

I think we are all jumping the gun?
A fav part of mk was always the secrecy.
Many people spent many hours "decoding".
Because of the new things, some were left out.
Or perhaps we were testing the fan base?
Or we might have been trying new things?
No worries tho, mk is here to stay.

Well, I remember reading in another discussion that after the announcer shouts 'Finish Him/Her!' then the your character seems to look at one of the statues in the portal stage.

This seems to be true to varying degrees and on other stages too (like Shokan Palace).

Recently I was using Sub-Zero (alternate costume. FYI) and I was fighting Kano. At the end of the round I Subby was staing in the middle of the area and he just looked almost direclty up.
I've used Frost in the portal stage many a time but she seems to look at the floating statue.

When I said to varying degree, it seems some characters will look in a certain direction or they will look at the 'Fatality' word in the fighting style.

It's kinda wierd...

I can't help the feeling that something in the game is still locked, meaning that it could limit what we're trying to do, so that no matter what you do, you won't be able to access or perform it. Let me emphasise:

- The game tells us that if we obtain a tie at the drum arena, the drummer will challenge both fighters. But no matter how hard we try, we can never obtain a tie. It's as if that option has either never been programmed, or locked!

- Stage fatalities. In some arenas, especially the acid bath in arcade mode, if you lose to an opponent, the CPU goes into fatality stance, and just taunts you. Some speculate that it's a glitch, others on the other hand suggest that the CPU is trying to perform a stage fatality. But it doesn't happen, either because this option never made it to the game, or it's locked!
Note: I have seen such a similar glitch in MK3, at the Bell Tower arena, against Cyrax. Upon losing to him, Cyrax does an "uppercut", signifying a stage fatality. But the glitch is that Cyrax is not close enough to execute the move, so the uppercut doesn't connect. He then raises his arms (MK3/UMK3 victory pose), and the announcer will say "Cyrax wins....FATALITY", but the losing opponent is still standing there, dazed! This glitch has happened a few times. I think this might be the same problem in MKDA.

- This brings me to the portal stage thing. 1/2 the puzzle is revealed to us in that you have to defeat a certain opponent to pass through the portal. But the other half of the puzzle, the portal sphere code (if there is one), is unknown.

- Another thing that seems to catch my eye is the character select screen. On each side of the screen, there are the "MKDA blades". Each blade represents something, like one blade to adjust your character's handicap, another to choose your arena, and another to place your bets when playing 2 player mode (you get my drift). On certain screens, there are more blades (there are I think 4 blades in arcade mode, and only 2 in practice mode). If you were to look at the arcade or versus mode character select screen, there seems to be space for at least 1 more blade, right at the top. Could this be a hidden option that is locked up somewhere? This is mere speculation, so no flamming please.

Yo, nice thinking. I started a thread at gamefaqs.com about getting the secret where all the members post what they have tried just so we dont have to go through it thus bringing us closer to the secret. The portal thing could be possible and I will work on it tonight the whole night.
Also on the other note I most certainly believe that there ought to be a secret at the start menu. I mean its MK style to have secrets at the start menu.

I tried a lot of codes, but in no succession, maybe the start menu is somewhat related to the portal stage? (no flaming please, just guessing)

If you start a match with a time limit and no one hits each other, won't that get you a tie when time runs out?

i'm noticing that this game seems almost like a parallel to the first mortal kombat, with the test your might, and all that mess, and in the orig. if you wanted to fight reptile, you had to wait for something to cross the moon, and win two perfect victories, and perform a fatality. maybe the characters looking in certain spots is kind of like the thing in the moon. i don't know, just a thought

Wouldn't one's most powerful enemy be yourself? As in, the mirror match?

your right, mkda is like mk1 in some ways, and the portal stages always have alot to deal with the mk games for example mk2 to fight i think it was smoke on the portal stage hold down and start when dan "toasty"forden comes out.and its those floating statues in the intro movie they get closer to you.i was thinking try doing this combination:1,2,4,3,the buttons are numbered rember

Weird, when I fought with dharmin against kano at the portal stage, for some odd reason I tried to keep the two guys in the middle of the leve. When i got into fatality stance, Dharmin was not looking up. I still did the fatality and nothing happened. Maybe we have to use people who are deadly adversary's or such, or wait for something to float in the sky and the characer looks up. Than do the 1243 combination.
Well I just got done with beating the whole konquest so I'll leave the whole potal ordeal for tomorow.

From playing Konquest, we discover that most of the 'most powerful adversaries' involve the deadly alliance, Shang Tsung and Quan Chi. If this is the case, then the trick to activating the portal mystery could be in versus mode and not arcade, seeing that Shang and Quan are exclusive to their own respective backgrounds only in arcade mode.

I was at the site Mortal Kombat Clans and Races and I looked at the Portal Stage info and it said

"A site of kombat during Quan Chi's alliance with Shang Tsung. The portal lay hidden
in a blanket of fog. Only a few knew of the location, and fewer knew how to use
the power of the Portal Sphere. The portal was a gate to the Realms. The sorcerers
used it to travel to Earth Realm, where they killed Liu Kang. In order to use this portal,
any warrior had to face and defeat a mirror image of themselves."

That's just the first step. I have tried doing that in 2 player mode, with 2 out of 3 rounds and 3 out of 5 rounds, and nothing happens. Tried getting all flawless and still nothing happened.
There's still something left to do with that portal sphere. Like you said, only few know the location of the portal, and "fewer know how to use the power of the portal sphere". We all know where the portal is located. Half of it is exposed in the distance. But the portal sphere!!! How do you tackle that problem?!?!
It's like you have to tap in a code after defeating your opponent. Or maybe it's that "12:43" thing. Perhaps it's attack buttons 1-2-4-3? Well I tried that too - nothing happened : (

This is a very interesting theory indeed. I like this alot, it is like MK2 days all over again ... secrets and rumors. In my opinion, I think that maybe the MK Dev team is just fucking with us by saying they lacked time on certain issues. Maybe as a decoy to keep us playing but looking elsewhere. Maybe pit fatalities are real perhaps just locked - I know a few stages were designed for pits. Possibly there is another character, if not playable - fightable. Maybe the voice in the krypt does hint at something and perhaps it is Noob Saibot. If you access him on the Portal Stage perhaps you fight him there too (definitely wouldn't be the first time a portal stage acted as a gateway for secret characters)... who knows. Anything, however little, is still something. This is just my opinion. Keep tooling with the portal stage and I will do some searching on that matter too when I get some free times now and then. Keep us posted ;)

Wasn't the portal not only open to sorcherers and deity's??

Last time i played the game scorpion wasn't one of those, so i think the whole story is very nice, but nothing more.
