Ed Boon said there would be a lot of close kombat. Does that mean there will not be any weapons for each character?? I think personally that each character should have two weapons each.
What about the special powers though? How many will each character get? Or is it varied depending on each character? For example, Superman gets more special moves (powers) as he is Superman and he naturally has more then the regular characters.
Any insight to all these unanswered questions?

Ed said the characters wouldn't have fighting styles you could switch between, which means no weapons, yeah.
Weapons wouldn't work for this game anyway, because most DC characters don't use weapons, and the ones who do don't ever go without them. For instance, Superman doesn't own a sword, and Hawkgirl never fights without her mace.

I'm glad that the multiple styles are gone. The MK team should stick to making up their own stuff and not base them of realistic styles. The Midway team half-asses the majority of them anyway. And leave the weapons to the Soul Calibur franchise.
I had way more fun with the characters in the first three games. Battles were fast, badass and simple. And characters actually looked good doing what they did.

I really hope they include weapons in this game. Shao Kahn would be nothing without his trusty wrath hammer.
Perhaps they will make some characters have weapons, and some without. Some characters need their weapons, as they are part of the character. Like how RazorsEdge701 said how HawkGirl never flies without her mace. Shao Kahn also never fights without his wrath hammer.
Perhaps they will have 1 fighting style per character, but some characters will have a weapon style in stead of a hand-to-hand style. That would be cool and make more sense.

well lets not forget Kahn didnt have the hammer in MK2 ;)
also think about the possibility that say Kahn is in the game... perhaps a couple special moves may involve useing his hammer??? or whatever his finisher is could... now if say Kabal is in.... well i wonder what they would do with him???

I wouldn't be surprised if Kahn's hammer was just a special move, yeah. But if Hawkgirl is in the game, I guarantee you, she will not have a hand to hand style, she will use her mace at all times.

That would suck. The hammer is a part of Shao Kahn. It is his trademark. I think it is more symbolic of him that his mask, even. I suppose, they may be able to replace his hammer with some really powerful moves or something.

The hammer was a just special move in MK3 too, dude. It's not like they'd be changing the character.

But they would be getting rid of a key feature of Shao Kahn. If he doesn't come back with his wrath/war hammer, I will be very disappointed. However, I will get over it if it's still a special move. Hopefully Shao Kahn is in this game. I think that all signs point to his inclusion.
But I still hope that if they bring back the whole "1 fighting style" thing, then a few characters will have no hand-to-hand kombat, but only a fighting style based on a weapon.

You mean Stage Weapons? They would be cool. Especially if they had one for every arena.

I wonder how they will encorperate catwomans whip into the game, or wonder womans lasso,
I reckon they will mainly be used for special moves rather then hand to hand combat, though using a whip like the way ivy uses hers in soul cailibour would be deadly

I mean
you are saying there is no weapons in the game
-no stage fatalities
-no mini modes like chess or ......new modes
-no konquest
-no creating mode
-no fatalities
- less blood
- and now no weapons
why don't they remove the special movies for each character..... I mean come on ..... weapons should return or this is no longer mk
I mean seriously what are they going to put!!!!!!!!!!

They're going to put...nothing? Because it's still MK without weapons, because MK1 thru 3 didn't have any? Just a thought.

I would include more but this is just right.

They only those in special moves, or as part of a combo. Personally, I wouldn't complain too much if Kahn went hammerless, or only used it in a combo or special move. As long as he had it at some point, fine, but enough with the weaponry. IMO MK was supposed to be a hand to hand tournament. Weapons worked fine with MK3 because in that one anything went, but it's tired now.
As for Hawk girl: IF she's in, surely they can adapt her to fight hand to hand with her using a mace as a super or a combo?
If Hawkgirl is in the game, the Mace needs to be part of her main fighting style. She's not like Kahn who just occasionally uses his Hammer to bring on the pain, you rarely ever see her fighting without it. Hawkgirl without her Hammer would be like having Captain America without his Shield.

I don't really see a need to incorporate fighting styles or weapon stances. It got old fast in the MK games. The classic and preferred route in my opinion would just to have the character's key weapon used in a special attack. That's what made the weapons interesting in the first place and that's what gave the characters a unique edge.
Kitana and Mileena for example were not all that unique at first glance back in MK2 but the second they started throwing fans and sais at each other that made them more interesting and would draw people to the characters. In MK:DA it was a novel idea to be able to exclusively use Kitana's weapons during the entire match but all the other characters had weapons as well. It lost its spark.
I doubt Shao Kahn, Kitana, Wonder Woman, Catwoman, and any other normally weapon-equipped character will be sans weapon in MK vs DCU. Giving every character a weapon however, or making those characters only fight with their trademark weapons is boring and it loses it's novelty.

As special attacks they're always more powerful anyway. Take Shao's hammer in mk3, It was brutal. Sick damage plus a long stun, and with great range too. If you got hit with it, you were most likely doomed.
Once it became something you could have all the time, it lost it's stun, a good chunk of damage, and got slower.
The same holds true with Shao himself. As with Goro, Kintaro, Motoro, Onaga, Noob, Smoke, Jade, reptile, etc etc etc. Having them not out all the time tends to make them more fun.

I think they should put weapons on certain levels that the player can pick up, like in MK:A and Deception. But of course that isn't likely.

There won't be any weapons as Boon already confirmed nor multiple fighting styles, but I can see a stage "neutral weapon" like something similar to MK4 like a rock or perhaps a piece of a wall or something...
I can see that working for both series of characters
Special powers, Boon also said everyone from both MK and DC will have their unique "abilities" hehe plus, you can't make an MK or DC game for that matter without having special powers. It's one thing apart of both franchises and their characters
