Many people find it an "out" to blame multimedia on society's problems. However, if parents and today's youth had even half a brain, they would know it is simply upbringing. Parents are too, hmm, uptight in today's world. "Oh lordy lordy God help my children!" They tend to avoid the situation and let others raise their kids. Back when I was a little kid, I knew Mortal Kombat was just a game. But, for some reason, some children are so goddamn stupid they think that harpooning your little sister is just a game.

Two things in particular I can blame it on: Beliefs (not necessarily religion) and discipline. Discipline is not just spanking your kid. If you holler at your child when they do something bad, they'll understand. Its also not a bad idea to smack your children every now and then either. They'll understand that YOU DON'T DO THAT. Seems harsh? Tough shit. It works the best.

Pushing beliefs onto your child is something you should NOT do. This is ridiculous, and it is better to answer the question as directly as possible when asked.

"Where do babies come from?"
"When a male and female have sex."
"What is sex?"
"When a male and female that are adults press their genitalia against each other."

^ Perfect answer, and they now know without pushing crap like "when a man and a woman.." Nuh-uh! Homey don't play that game. If you look around EVERYONE should realize sex is not necessarily love for all people.

The new-age of parenthood and the new-age of pop culture are basically what screw up kids in the first place. It's basically peer pressure, and as we all know, humans are persuaded very easily (because they're stupid). Its your own damn fault your child thinks that GTA is real, and that they can respawn after being shot. Its a good idea to play video games with your kid without saying something asinine like "I don't like this game because it has blood and I'm a middle-age bitch blah blah blah." When I was little, my dad played video games with me all the time. I learned a lot from it, especially the difference between a KO and death. He corrected me and said things to make sure I got the real picture. All parents should do this, and not just scrutinize without actually playing anything.

I could not agree more with the two previous comments on the "Gaming Violence Probe." I remember when MKII came out, they made the exact same fuss about violent videogames (VIDEOGAMES). Just as someone watches a movie for violence or action, people play videogames for the same reason. It's just entertainment. CNN and parents blame the videogames for brainwashing their children, when the problems of the child may lie primarily on the parent's themselves.
This argument can go on and on because of the fact that they had to bring Columbine into this. Once someone brings in a huge tragedy like Columbine into a protest like this, everyone is going to side with CNN and pissed off parents.
As the two entries above stated, the only people that movies and videogames affect are those impressionable kids who do not know any better. It's not the movie's fault, nor the videogame's, for they are just products; rather, it's certain people that use these products in weird ways (Harpooning your little sister, etc...)
I enjoy watching fatalities from MKII, but it doesn't mean I'm gonna go do them. It's just entertainment.

I still think that the problem is that 1. these people have probably never played a game in there life, and 2. its still thought that gaming is aimed towards kids.

The fact is that a large percentage of gamers are over 25. Why should they not be allowed to play what they want, the same way they can watch whatever movies they want?

If parents are well informed and keep an eye on what their children play there will be no problem. The rating system was made for that very reason, to inform the buyer of suitability of the product..

This always happens people in the public eye get told by there medators what to say and how to feel about certain games. It's all been said and done before that is why there is a rating system. Worst case, some of the kids will get there parents to buy them the game. I am 30 years old and I know that alot of gamers are getting older. If certain political people step up and start crying again, about how violent games are I just might go out to the poll and vote against them. You attack my games and I not knowing anything about them,will attack back even if that means gathering a bunch of gamers in my area and friends from different states to vote for who ever is not wasting there time bashing the bloody games. I can only hope this is the feeling of other old gamers. This might have won the votes of parents in the past, but lets face it some of us are parents. The Humans are ignorant ,and blame anything but themselves. I grew up without videogame for the longest time ,and I was still violent. You can't blame movies ,videogames ,and music.
I listen to Jpop which is all love whatever ,and I still want to beat the crap outta everyone I see. It's not from the videogames and music ,it's from being made fun of all my life! Thats what happened to those columbine kids ,but they wanted everyone to think they were cool by killing their persecutors. You have to have self-control ,and reasoning ,and take responsibility for your actions instead of using scapegoats when/if you commit crimes.

I have alot to say but it doesn't come out in a way that makes sense. I know what people are like ,I've been watching the ignorance and stupidity for over 20 years. The world is going to hell ,and theres nothing anyone can do about it.

I think that Mortal Kombat is officially back at the top now! I remember in the old days the controversy this game brought to the public, and man did Mortal Kombat sell! I find that when people complain about things alot it gets even more popular.

In the 1920's the government banned alcohol and closed down bars. Did that stop people from drinking? The answer is hell no, in fact it made some people really rich because the demand for alcohol was very high. What I am saying is, nobody could stop you from doing what you want, you just need to find ways to get what you want.

Mortal Kombat will be a really popular game because critics and politicians are going to complain about it, its sort of like unofficial advertising. Alot of people are going to want to see what the whole ruckus is all about and pick up a copy of Mortal Kombat to see what it is like. That is what happened to me almost 10 years ago and i'm still hooked on this game.

Yeah, first off you buy the game for your kid. Then next you want to deprive everyone of the game because your child can't distinguish between fantasy and reality. And what it all boils down to everytime is that parents don't want to admit that they are bad parents. So, we blame movies, music, video games, whatever else. Yes, it's crap. Yes, it's stupid. Yes, it will never end.

This gaming violence probe is all BS. Violent video games won't do anything to harm kids. Like, if a kid plays GTA how in the hell are they going to copy it, they can't get at machine guns and go on a killing spree, and for what? Just to see if it's real? If kids play those games and get curious, instead of trying to stunt they should just ask their parents and hopfully their parents understand and will tell them the right thing.

And if kids play Doom...come on. Theres no chance that they can copy that. They would only just play around and using an imaginary gun, and it ain't that bad if that happens. If they get sent to war they would have no experience what so ever with a gun. I bet every person that went to war had an experience with imaginating that they had a gun.

Now...Mortal Kombat. It hasn't done anything. No1 can re-inact it. Mortal Kombat has been in the buisness for a long time and nothing has changed since then. There's still violence in the world and no peace still. So i think that CNN should just stop with the video games and let it be.

All parents have to do if they don't want their little kids to play violent games is not buy it for them. That simple. They buy the games for their little kids then when the little kid decides he's gonna do what he sees in the game because their mom wasn't watching them, they take it out on the game, and the makers of the game.

Note to parents: They're YOUR kids. Keep and eye on them and stop blaming the games you buy for them on the things they do that they got from the game. Especially since you're the one that let them go off and do whatever without watching them.

i mean, i the video game creators are doing their job, and if the news think its putting "violent behavior" on kids, well, y do the parents buy their kids the game? If they r gonna buy it, they shud just tell em that all that stuff is fake.....plus, i dun think the lil kids are even able to perform fatalities, its too hard for them

Parents/politicians just use video games as a scapegoat for why their children try to kill each other; these people don't take the time to be good parents and role-models for their kids anymore.

Agreed although my mom knows i play games like Resident Evil or Grand Theft Auto hell she loves playing Grand Theft Auto she so cool hell she let me watch ScarFace when i was 12 and im not gonna kill someone or snort Coke cause i know better I think if the person knows better than its alright but if little johnny doesnt then its the parents fault i always knew better cause i grew up in a religous family but i know better. As I heard, they tried to ban those casino slot machines and similar gambling machines. But the politicians there were stupid, and banned games along with those slot machines. The Greek version of the Supreme Court even declared games legal, but the Greek legislators insisted on that law as it was written. I think the ban was finally lifted by legislation, though.

They can talk all they want, these old politicians jerks, the fact is that Deception , GTA San andreas and Doom 3 will be on stores shelves no matter what because that makes money!! The only thing they can do is don't sell M rated games to kids, and I really could care less since I'm 20. It's just like all the industries and traffic jams that cause so much pollution, are they gonna close industries and limit traffic because NOx and SO4 and all other kinds of polluting stuff are harming our health??! Great arguments by everyone. I don't think that video-games will ever be 'outlawed' as in Greece (that's one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard) because gamers aren't just little kids without clout in the world.

Gamers, contrary to many views, are not just grade-school outcasts and grown-men who live in their mother's basement and watch Xena re-runs. We encompass all sexes, races, and ages. All countries, political parties, religions and economic classes. We are some of the most intelligent people in the world today *with many exceptions, lol*.

But a lot of people blame the parents for BUYING the game for their kid. As I stated before, it is all too easy for teens, even younger kids, to get questionable material without their parent's consent or even knowledge. Jesus, I hate to bring it up simply because I believe there is no viable connection between it and video-games, but the murderers of the Columbine tragedy were able to get f*cking GUNS!

Sometimes these things cannot be helped. But it IS the parents responsibility to be exactly that: a parent. To establish a set of solid morals, and a sense of reality. Not as a stranger who works all day and then doesn't even know their own kid.

Well there is hope. There was recently a bill being voted upon to make games with violent labels be sold behind a black curtain like pornography, that bill was shot down. Also another of the Columbine victim's suites was hot down. The judge threw the case out citing the common sense idea that GMES ARE LAYED BY MILLIONS OF PEOPLE, BUT THE INCIDENTS OF VIOLENCE ARE BUT HANDFULS.

ANY person i have EVER had an arguement with about violent games can NEVER get past that simple arguement. If these violent games truly have ANY impact then we would see a lot more violent tradgedies of Columbine's nature. If game WERE that impacting, then the world would be a warzone (well more of a one then it already is anyway...)
