I had a much more detailed entry but my computer fukked up and I didn't feel like retyping the whole thing. The main things that I didn't like were the new fighting style and the new characters like Li Mei and Bo Rai Cho. I did like that you could bring out your weapon easier and that it doesn't drop when you're hit. Th tomb was a great idea, but the gameplay really turned me off to this game. I am a hardcore fan of MK, at one time I was even a member of an online klan named the Pit Vipers, and I hate to see them completely change something great. MKII was the best of all the games.
I won't go as far as to say MK:DA sucks, but I will say that MK2 is leaps and bounds and fucking leagues better than MK:DA and any other fighting game, in my opinion. I guess since I've been a fan since MK1 was in test versions at the arcade and been playing video games (primarily fighters of all kinds) since the mid eighties I feel that way after seeing what I think is enough to judge. I also think skill level was a bit higher back then. At one time there was no shoving people out of block, pulling out weapons to deal more damage, sidestepping, or comboing in strings of punches and kicks ... you faced a situation and dealt with it head on or you died and the only combos were those you juggled - for example:
Scorpion (per MK II):
Deep jump kick (HK), Teleport punch, Spear (flying opponent), uppercut or roundhouse kick.
Sub-Zero (per MK II):
Ground Freeze, Deep jump kick (HK), Freeze (falling opponent), Uppercut, Slide.
Kitana (per MK II):
Fan Lift, Jump punch (HP) or kick (HK), fan toss, square wave punch.
...there are many others but those were classic examples I used alot myself back in 1993 at arcades. Finally, Midway was skimpy with the amount of TRUE secrets they put in. Oh well, maybe I'm just dating myself but this is my opinion. The classics were the best and it went downhill slightly with III and fell considerably with IV and now DA... Again, all my opinion.

deffinitely. Personaly I liked MK4. Reptile looked kool in that and the addition of weapons was a good idea. I think Shinnok was a stupid boss and it was stupid to have him as a selectable character (same w/ Quan and Shang in DA). Reiko was a kickass character and will forever be one of my favorites. I wish Reptile still had his forceballs. z:o

I'd like to see a game called MK: Klassic. It would start with the kharacters from MK1 then you'd earn MK2 kharacters when u beat it w/ everyone. It would go all the way up to DA. It would have MK4's controls and DA's graphics

I'd like to see it bring back the klassics. MK4 had pretty much the same controls as the original games (with some alterations). MKDA is way too different and Tekken-ish. (I didn't really like the Tekken games).

One of the best Ideas!!!!
the fighting system was revamped to keep the game fresh and not just another MK game. If you like the old MK's, play those. You will be playing those old MK's by yourself. I'm sure the story would be different if the game were online...

eh, whutever... my friends agree w/ me about the old games being better, so I've always got someone to play against. I do like that Cyrax has a second costume revealing his face (finaly proved to my friends that the guy w/ Braids in the movie that Liu Kang fought was Cyrax... notice that it was Sektor and Smoke in Annihalation) and I will always love... "Cooking With Scorpion"

LOL!!! Maybe, it's all good, though. As far as MK4 goes, it had GOOD potential, but damn, how many times can a hop kick get f'ed up?
DA is a great, REINVENTION of the MK series. It seams as though the game is taking a deeper approach. It's just that everything seams to be the same. Every one juggles the same and move relatively the same. Maybe I'm being over critical of a leet new system, or maybe not.
Is DA a good game, yes. However, as mentioned it seams to be taking a new, deeper direction. I'm not so sure if it's all that deep, infact, I know it's not. Holly crap, I can do high/low mix-ups...uh, Kung Fu on the Nes, anyone? I think that's what crimps on me; I really want it and see a plethora of potential for a deep MK game, I'm just not getting it. Peace and love ya'll.

How would you feel, Raven, if we take MKDA and do the next MK (MK6) with these add-ons:
· Stage Fatalities
· More than one Fatality per character
· Weapon Fatalities
· Progressive Body Damage
· Being able to take weapon impales out, the impaled character and/or the impaler himself (not matter if it's at least during round switch)
· Multy Level travel during fights
· Characters to carry weapons (like Scorpion's useless swords) with their costumes and actually take them out from there (others could do it magic-like, like Raiden)
· Test Your Might and Test Your Sight back along with more mini-game(s) (maybe re-dones)
· Way more interactivity with backgrounds (the Krypt reveals you wanted that for MKDA, but didn't make it as much)
· A more in-depth and cooler Krypt (less artwork and crap, more greatness :) and Konquest modes
· Dan Forden again with his "Toasty!" noice and face on screen, and yeah, with secrets to unlock with it
· Some remixes from backgrouns of MK1 and MKII
· Old MK games' background re-makes (like the Pit II and the Graveyard from MK Trilogy, just examples)
· The Acid Bath (maybe the Dragon Fly) stage back as an actual stage fatality place!
· More classic MK things that reminds players the old games (musik, levels, noices, etc.)
· Hidden Screts (extra menus and stuff)
· Let Liu Kang and Shao Kahn live!
Neat, don't you guys think?

Maybe he is referring to the black guy with braids in the first Mortal Kombat movie. After Liu Kang beat him, Shang Tsung stole his soul. The fight took place on a tropical looking sandy spot. Been a long time but I recall this though I doubt that has any link to Cyrax or Sektor as he was thinking. He's not a moron, he is just speculating and if he likes the classic games better then that is his opinion.

@ theraven:
If you want to get back the classic, then play the classic. It's just retarded to complain about changes and new stuff. Times and games change. If you prefer the old, play the old and leave the new alone. I personally love MK:DA.

May i point out that MK4 didn't do well and was highly unpopular and this was due to the fact that despite being "3d" all the fighting was still done in a 2D style, you could rarely take advanatage of all directions, MKDA lets you take advantage of the whole arena, movement is extremely easy and functional, lots of moves involve sidesteps, unique camera angles are used, this game is also nothing like tekken, (Liked tekken 3, but disapointed but the later ones!)
Crouching is easy, hold block, rpess down, release block, that can be done so quickly it might aswell just be press down, also if pressing down made you crouch thn side stepping would suck because you'd have to hold l2 or double press or something, i rather prefer being more nimble!
Shao khan..... i liked him because he had a BIG hammer, but i'm by no means sad he died, there wasn't much to him he didn't interest me much and reptiles changes! Everyone must surely know that he changed because they didn't want power ranger ninjas again, not only that but he looks fine, though i admit his face is not exactly perfect, i'd prefer a more crocodillian look to him myself!
I think this game has done an awful lot to revive a sadly dieing series of games, i'm pleased it's been done and not disapointed by anything excepting ofcourse one thing, no axes!
Choose your destiny? Wasn't that essentially selecting the difficulty and other than not having a picture of a bunch of different sized towers what do you miss?
Too much change? Coward!
Li Mei is good, and if you learnt how to fight as her you'd be a damned fine opponent with all her leaping too and thro, Bo rai cho might not look like a super hero but all the better for it, the game can't consist soley of musclemen and silicon women!
They have the engine now Mk6 can be produced in half the time and i really can't wait to see where they're going to take this CLASSIC game!
If you don't like it go and play next dimension!
What is your complaint with the new fighting system, Exactly?

Not bad, Not bad at all.
Even without this, MKDA is a good game. How can anyone say that MK2 is better?! Maybe I fail to see some logic in that but... good lord! This is a two dimensional, single fighting style game your talking about! In the classics, all you do is punch, kick, upper cut, and attempt a combo. MKDA actually lets you enjoy the fight- Not pass it.....Well This is how to tell which gamers are lower class. The ones that want the simple over the complex.
