For me, I like Mortal Kombat because of the story. No other game has a story like MK's.

Agreed ^^, very unique, it's dark and sinister and I just love everything about it.
The characters, storyline, music everything.
It easily has the best storyline out of any fighting game, I've read the others and they're crap compared to MK's.

The very first videogame i ever played was a pirated version of MK1, i totally fell in love, the ninjas, the ancient asian stages, the violence, all of that amused me. then when i was 8 or 9 Mortal Kombat Conquest aired here in the portuguese television, i started to watch the series and that love i had to the game, grown into something enormous. i was completely adicted to Mortal Kombat, in every form, movies, video-games, tv series, everything. the times passed and i dedicated myself to study all the story and mythologies of Mortal Kombat. I guess Mortal Kombat is one of the few reasons that make me be a retro-gamer (also sonic ..). I've tried to embrace another videogame based story, like Tekken, Virtua Fighter, Street Fighter, all the SNK beat'm ups (Fatal Fury, King of Fighters, Samurai Showdown...), and all of that can't even be compared to MK's story and ambientations. Mortal Kombat flows through me, i love it as a God, or some kind of religion, all the dark ambientations that we see in the ancient MK story (origin of Mortal Kombat tournament, life and death of Kung Lao, much told in the non canon MK: C, the way that characters are introduced in the story, the way that the story goes on (for exemple, in street fighter you have a main character Ryu, who has been in all the games of the saga, and seems not to age, and will probably never die, in the other hand, MK spares no hero, Kung Lao was a hero and died, Liu Kang was the main character, and died, and so on..)..... if MK ends some day, i'll probably suicide.

I like MK for its story and characters.

MK even has room to improve and it's still good even with all the retcons. I hope that MK never ends, and if it does, I hope that someone else picks the ball up. Nice stuff everyone.
About Me
I need a new sig, something with Kabal from UMK3 would be sweet. Just imagine that here

nice thread, The thing that really drew me into the MK franchise were the colorful backgrounds and characters of MK2, the reason I stayed with MK is for the story.

I love Mortal Kombat for its story (story lines and continuity), Characters (Character designes who they are and why they fight.) and Aesthetics (The whole arouma of Mortal Kombat its Asiaesque Arena fill to the dark twist areas of the Outworld).

MK has very good characters who change over time, mostly for the better. The levels are good. The storyline is even better. (Message Edit)

The kicking, the punching, "Get Over Here", the story, the Special moves, scorpion (I swear, I don't think I'd ever play if it weren't for him), and the pure epic struggle between good and evil.

For the storyline and the finishers. All the other fighting games (except wargods) don't have the finishing moves. That's why MK> all other fighting games.

I have to agree. Some fighting games like Virtual Fighter, Street Fighter(a lot of the characters are basically the same: Ken, Ryu, Dan, Akuma) ect. The storyline is crap in them. I also love the ancient feel of Mortal Kombat.
1.- The story (MK, the many worlds and characters, etc):
This is what got me interested in MK in the first place. Its awesome, deep, amazing, unique, enormous and so full of potential. The mythology is simply fantastic, its all very magical.
Also:
Fatalities, other finishers, the gore and violence.
Arenas/graphics.
And more Im too lazy to write down.

You see, I wanted to make a series similar to MK by writing novels. But, I figured that since MK is so good, I might as well give and offer my ideas to an already great franchise that has room to better itself. Besides, my novels would have been near clones.

Honestly, It's different, the plot is good (and complicated, but I like that), the twists, the turns. The fighting is always fun, and it's even funner to rip through the guy...

Yeah, without some of the blood and gore, MK might not be so popular.

the MK story is great, aside from a few* plot holes and contradictions.
I really hope the next few MK games fix all the holes and tie up all the loose ends, then the MK storyline would be the best.......in the WORLD!!!
*there are more than a few, theres alot.

I have no doubt they will man with the bios being released a lot of questions are being answered, some of the MK fans just need a little patience. MK 8 will be awesome i'm sure

The question should be: WHAT made you like Mortal Kombat in the 1st place! For me, it was the realistic looking depiction of um, mortal combat, the storyline and the Kharacters and the use of realistic martial arts moves and the comic book type costumes. As a big fan of Frank Miller`s Daredevil comics, I was ripe for the pluckin` when MK came out and while Streetfighter and later on, Tekken are arguably "better" in terms of gameplay, etc, the digitised realism knocked me off my feet. My favourite game is Mortal Kombat Trilogy (I tried to pawn my Jackson JDX `94 Concept to get Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3!) as this upgrade brought in Stryker`s Uzi`s and so on. As for recognisable kharakters, Scorpion has to be one of videogame history`s all time, copper bottomed, from dawn till dusk, 24/7, 365 days a year Klassic Kharacters, no contest. Scorpion`s 4 hit karate kick kombo from MK: Trilogy still makes my boyish heart miss a beat. Did I mention I`m a blue belt in Tae Kwon Do? Nuff said!
