Boon has said multiple times that the roster will be 10 or 11 each. He said that long after the site and it's 16 slots went up.
The website probably only has 16 so they can keep some a secret until the release date.

I hope the reason for taking so long to announce Wonder Woman is simply building anticipation and whatnot, as opposed to them regarding her as a less important character. I'll be pissed if she gets shafted like a secondary character.

I'm pretty sure they're releasing them in the order that they are because that's the order they're getting the character designs done in.

I mean if it was up to me, I'd have gone in order of importance and Raiden and Wonder Woman would have been the next two names announced after Scorp, Subbie, Supes and Batman.

And Jax would've been dead last, lol.

I think they're saving her for last so that everyone isn't giving them hell when it comes down to the last slot. Because everyone knows she's in it. I'd prolly say the same for Rayden on the MK side. It's a given.

That's what I feel is happening. There really isn't anything to anticipate. We all know she will be in the game. There will be nothing surprising about her announcement. It would have been more fitting for her to have been announced with Sonya (after Superman) and have the "Big Three" all revealed. They have not used her at all to promote the game. There is no way we would have gone this long without seeing Supes or Batman. I think the MK announcements (up until Jax) have gone in a pretty logical way.

sonya honestly has a fairly throw away story. she's usually tied up in the main conflict only through secondary means. kitana is usually right there in the middle of the action.
she's definitely a main character but as far as the story goes kitana is definitely the female lead in MK.

Kitana is definitely the lead female protagonist of Mortal Kombat.

But for some bizarre reason, Sonya seems to be more popular on the boards. I was surprised as all hell to see how strong the reaction here was when her render was released. Personally, I've always found her pretty boring. (Though I do have to admit some of her moves look pretty cool)

I don't think she will. It is way more likely that they're holding her back simply because she's one of the more anticipted releases. People know that she's going to be in the game, but they're dying to see her. So they're keeping her underwraps to keep the fans hyped and interested in any new info to come about. They're just saving one of the best for last, I bet.

Yeah. I doubt she will be overlooked. But I do think, despite her iconic status, that Catwoman makes a much better "promotional" character.

Everyone seems to think of her before WM. *shrugs*

But seriously, I’m just very happy they chose Sonya to be the main female to promote the game again. They always pick her for this sort of stuff, which rocks ans establishes her importance. I still remember the huge attention she got back in MKDA with the sexy character select screen.

That screen looked sooo much better then the final one we got. I hope they use the new VS poses, those rock.

There can't be a serious example of who exactly is the "leading lady" in Mortal Kombat. If you check, Boon has said Sonya is before (I think) and I know for a fact he stated that Kitana and Mileena were the Scorpion and Sub-Zero female versions, based off the same sprite and the lead females in the game.

To me, Kitana is the leading lady. Statistics show that Sonya was the least played character in Arcade versions of Mortal Kombat 1, probably was the reason she was taken out in MK2.

*in MKDA sonya looked for kenshi and cyrax. totally unrelated to the bigger picture.

*in MKD kitana faced quan chi personally. albeit she died she faced the deadly alliance.

*in MKD sonya was killed by some random tarkatans. not even baraka.

*also in MKD technically MKUnchained but you know blaze saw fit to tell kitana about the danger looming over the realms. (this might not be canon but right now it doesn't contradict anything)

*in MKA kitana looked after liu kang's spirit until a way was found to get him back in his body.

*sonya looked for a character (jax) that apparently no one wants in the game.
---now though both of those may be similar apparently only 5 people like jax while liu kang is the games main hero.

no doubt both of the characters are mortal kombat icons but kitana is definitely the main heroine of the story. sonya may have come first and she may be more nostalgic than kitana because of that but she definitely plays second fiddle as far as canon is concerned.

Oh C'mon! These Kitana/Sonya battles have really gone beyond absurd now. Even making it into threads that have nothing to do with either character. We all have our favorites..but let's not get ridiculous about it, ok?


Now Wonder Woman has had a few different outfits over the years.. being that there are no alts.. I wonder which outfit they'll be going with? The classic one? Or perhaps a mix?

I hope a mix or something else, but she will obviously get the classic one....it would be insane not to give her the most trademark look...oh well.

Maybe they are trying to releases more characters that we didn't think were in?

It's probably worth considering a few alternatives of varying plausibility, too, ie; the design team is still struggling to reach a consensus on the Wonder Woman design, or perhaps WW reveals a major story piece.

I wouldn't be remotely surprised if the team is struggling with her design, or her game play, etc. That would only reinforce my concerns.

I doubt she reveals a major story piece. The one other possibility worth considering is that it might not be Diana as WW. The hints that were leaked earlier referenced an Amazon Queen. We all know Diana is princess of Themyscira, so that means they could be going with Hippolyta as WW. That would certainly add a surprise factor, as well as some outrage.

Or, of course, it could just have been a mistake, in which case see above conerns comment.
