Fuck .......
Well its not confirmed, but this week's special guest was N'gai and Geoff Kieghly. The topic of fighting games no longer being popular came up, and Shane Bettenhause (from EGM) said about this being the year of the fighting game comeback with SF4 and Soul Calibur 4. Geoff then brought up that MK8 will be unveiled next week, and that he hears its going to be pretty big, and something big is planned. Shane then said he has heard rumors that it will actually be rated T for Teen, and that its a cross over game.
Fuck me with barbed wire bat, but if this game is rated T for Teen im done with Mortal Kombat. If its a cross over fine, but taking blood and fatalities out would be retarded. It would be like taking the weapons out of soul calibur, or projectiles out of Street Fighter.
Again, its just a rumor that they had heard but now im REALLY anxious to see whats up with the new MK.

Dude that isn't going to happen, so don't worry. MK was founded on gruesome violence, and thats where it's fanbase comes from. Midway isn't going to risk it. MK8 will be bloodier than ever....It's also a good thing to note that over 80% of top-selling games are rated M.

Shane at 1up is a douche. He guessed the PS3 would launch cheaper than the 360, that RE5 was a PS3 exclusive, and that MGS4 was coming on 360. He's been wrong on numerous occasions, he's just trying to strut his stuff.
MK8 is using the UE3 engine, known for it's over-the-top violence. MK will be the MK we love, just refined for the future.

Crossover? I'm out.
Rated T? I'm out.
If they want to do that kind of shit, fine, but don't do it in MK8. Do it on a side proejct like MKSM or something. I want MORTAL KOMBAT.

The only thing that sort of eases my mind is that Shane works for EGM. The first legit rumor of an MK cross ever was from Quaterman from EGM . However technically TRMK started that rumor ( which is likely bullshit ).
So maybe Quarterman was having a slow month, read about the cross over rumor on a message board, which he in turn would have put in EGM, thus the reason Shane would have heard this rumor since he and quaterman are both EGM employees. I cant explain however where shane would have heard it was being rated T, unless who ever told him about the cross over also mentioned the DC characters, which would make one assume that the game would have to be rated T.
Atleast Boon himself, has said the game is going to be darker and grittier, and considering that is the only FACT anyone has heard from Boons mouth (also the words blood and fatality being the crossword on Boon.com ) would mean the game is most likely going to stay M rated.
I probably shouldn't have even started this thread, but considering it is RUMOR but from a legit source, I figured I'd post it.
Lets just hope that AT WORST, it is indeed an MK game crossed over with the UT characters which I have speculated for awhile.

I highly doubt this. OK, first of all T to Teen means there's bound to be some humor. ED said it was gonna be SERIOUS, DARK, and GRITTY. If it is. M for Mature is defiantly at hand. This dude just happened to get info before any of us... Sure. If this had been posted by Cinder from Midway boards, then I'd believe it.

Can you tell me where in the over 2 hour long podcast they talk about MK and the other fighters? I'd like to listen but not scour 2 hours to find it, thanks. Downloading the podcast now.

Yes, MK8 is said to be darker and grittier by Boon himself. So maybe, MK8 could even be rated PG.
Do you remember the two teens that killed that little girl because of MK? Well that's why I said in may be PG.

In the September 2006 issue of Official Xbox Magazine, the cover story was MK Armageddon. On page 61, in the lower left hand corner, Ed Boon talks about the possibility of a dream match betwen MK and Street Fighter:
"I have had conversations with people about it and we've actually made phone calls about it." reveals Boon, only to quickly add: "it's not in the near future and I don't think there are any plans at the moment. I'd love to see it. It might be something that a smaller, elite group of people would be super-excited about, but the mass market, I think they'd say 'Was Mortal Kombat 2D at one point?' So maybe it's more of a novelty to them."
Now, EGM, who has been banned from the MK team studios and who is the LAST source for anyone looking for info on anything MK related, puts in it's August 2007 issue regarding Soul Calibur 4 (issue #218) says on page 67 under the headline "In Other Hard Hitting News..." that "Mortal Kombat's brutal crew is also prepping a return to the ring, and we hear Scorpion and co. may be squaring off against another extremely well-known cast."
There is absolutely no basis for this rumor. EGM has never revealed any source as to where the rumor originates from and given the fact that EGM gets zero first hand knowledge of MK themselves, they are only going on hearsay just like everyone in these threads.
Now I'm not trying to make the leap that Shane Bettenhausen doesn't know anyone else in the industry that might be able to provide him with reliable information, but if that were the case, and Shane actually has a reliable source, than why hasn't EGM ever printed this as news? Oh yeah, it goes back to the fact that EGM does NOT have first hand knowledge of this rumor's validity.
Again, why would this Versus rumor make any sense at all? You see Ed Boon's words from his own mouth: "It might be something that a smaller, elite group of people would be super-excited about, but the mass market, I think they'd say 'Was Mortal Kombat 2D at one point?"
Do you think that's the type of game that would take this long to develop? A 2D version of MK vs SF? Okay fine, let's assume that it's 3D. Why would the MK team get the Unreal engine, why would Ed Boon talk for over a year now about "wiping the slate clean" and "starting a new chapter" in the series, saying things like "this will probably be the last that we see of alot of these characters?" If it's a versus game?
Why would Ed Boon talk about how the game will be darker and grittier and what not if it's a cross over game? Clearly he's talking about the future of the MK series, not a versus game, which is obviously a noncanon type of side game.
There are too many facts that make the BS of this rumor sound even dumber than the idea itself would be. We'll find out in a few days what the real story is, but if Cyberdog and some of these other people are right and the rumor is legit, I'll praise him and apologize. I just don't see any way of that happening though.
