Umm, maybe I'm the exception, but I like alot of fighting games. Sure, MK1 and MK2 are easily tops on my all time list of favorite games (not just fighting but in general, hence my being here), but I've also played many of the old fighting games back when the genre was in its golden age.

But I also own and play MK Armageddon, Virtua Fighter 5, Dead or Alive 3 and 4, Soul Calibur and I'll be getting Soul Calibur 4 when it comes out. If Tekken 6 came out on 360, I'd be getting that as well. I dunno, maybe I'm the exception to the rule.

I do think that the fighting genre has seen better days though. You've got a few elite options left (which lessen even more if you only have one next gen console) and they certainly don't come out all that often. It's not like the FPS genre where 800 crappy Halo, Gears or CoD knock offs come out each month.

But that's kinda how it used to be back in the 90's. For ever Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat you had about a million Fighters Destiny's, Bloodstorm's, etc.

It's probably a topic left for another thread, but I'd be curious to find out what people think the genre as a whole could do to get back into the main stream.

Anyways, after listening to it again, you can tell that none of those guys have any clue as to what's going on with MK8. One guy takes a shot in the dark from what almost sounds like a memory that he's not sure is accurate and the other guys are all "oh wow...really?" I don't mean to sound arrogant, but this still sounds like a heaping load of BS.

If any of this is true, Midway is probably going to lose a lot of money and fans. MK rated "T"??? I'd be so pissed!

(I would say feeling because it's the only fighting game that delivers in that area, the others are just ridiculous). So no 18 year old kid can come here and say it's gonna be teen rated cause it's not mario shite bros or street @#%!@# fighter! It's MK!!! Boon and Co. won't screw up their best game franchise. I don't know, sounds like its perfect for its ideal market. The Angsty Teen.

A strange breed that buys games not on technical brilliance or on originality. But purely on: Blood, Boobs and Bald Space Marines. Games that star generic one dimensional tough-guys, Overly-independent (but maybe, but maybe they will put out for our hero.) females and nonsense spewing sound bite villains.

Personally, I doubt its true. But if it is, it might just mean that either:
a) The rating system has mellowed.
or
b) A lot of the gritty-ness is now implied rather than visual. Which can be even more brutal depending on the mind. (I suspect it'll be wasted on most of you though. HAHAHAHA! /Cunt)
or
c) A genuine attempt at substance over style.

I don't see MK ever doing a game that will be rated T. However, who's to say they are not working on two projects? Maybe unlikely, but what if they are working on another MK Konquest type game just making it seperate for something. I don't see how that would be T though, so this whole thing is just BS

Wouldnt it be good if they did a full on blood feast for ps3 and 360,then did a family friendly version for the wii.

1. The game wouldn't be rated yet, even if it's releasing in August (the rumored 8/8/08 release date). The ESRB doesn't rate a game until they have a much more finalized build than what's available for MK8 right now. At best, Midway is "aiming" for a Teen rating.

2. I've talked to Shane in the past at numerous events and while he does have some inside information, he also gets a lot of rumors from the same sources we do (message boards, etc.). Based solely on the 15 second clip, I think he's just chiming in with what he heard from random sources, not info from Midway people.

3. I talked to someone (old friend) on the dev team a few weeks back and he didn't mention anything about Midway shooting for a T rating. I won't repeat what he did say, and I never asked about anything like this, but I would think that he would've mentioned it if this had been the case. He also didn't mention anything about a crossover. It was a casual conversation and not geared toward the new MK, it was just kind of a side topic that was brought up, but I still think he would've mentioned something if the game was shooting for a T rating or was a crossover.

4. MK has always been about the blood and gore. It's the main selling point for the series and it's always sold well based on this point. I can't see any reason for Midway to shoot for a T rating.

Shane also predicted the Spice Girls, Backstreet Boys, and New Kids on The Block would re-unit. He also predicted the World would end in 2012.
