I guess you think I'm disgusting, but I think a mature conversation about rape is the best way to bring for acknowledgement about it. I mean, obviously talking about it in an immature way would be unacceptable, but I don't believe we should all turn our heads and act like it doesn't happen and let it be some subject we should never bring up. Rape statistics are like 'one in four women will be sexually assaulted in college' or 'sixty-five percent of women are raped on a date or by someone that they know.' Like I know these statistics might be off, and I can only really go by what 'scientists and researchers' publish to the public, but still, rape is a reoccuring issue, and by silencing people to speak up about it is probably one of the worst things you can wish for. Also, forgive me if I am misinterpreting the point you were trying to get across.

You're right Erik. Talking about rape and informing women (and men) on ways to better protect themselves is vital. I worked with a rape victim hotline after I was raped. I can't tell you how little knowledge there is out there for the people who really need it. I learned more about rape after being the victim of it than I ever did before it happened.

I think Icebaby's post was more about how rape is often spoken of amongst immature people. Speaking about it light heartedly, in jest, etc. People who apparently want to see it as something with entertainment value.

You nailed it. There are people I know who would rather think it's hilarious to discuss rape in humorous manner, and I frown upon those who think it's so fricken hysterical when they either don't know what's that like. Discussing it in a well mannered way is something I would rather see than having someone mention, "Oh I think rape should be inserted here because it'll be just a cool violent seen to see..." I don't think so. Because like I said, I was sexually assaulted by an abusive ex-boyfriend, there are people out there who have no idea what rape is, just like what Pink_Ranger stated. But, I looked up information about sexual assaults, rape after what happened to me... it's so horrible how they're being mentioned, and it makes me so ticked when I see people thinking it's so funny that people should get raped. No they shouldn't.

And I'm so sorry you were a victim of it... Really, that's so sad. I may not know how it effected you, but it's nice to see that you help others out with the same issue.

Far out, I had a Christmas party last night and being the genious I am, I went into the spa and pool with my $500 phone still in my pocket! Fuck i am retarded... Merry xmas! :(

So i asked my friend if she wanted to hang out on her facebook wall because we hadn't seen each other in ages, and then her bf starts telling me off for apparently wanting to break him and her up and trying to get with the chick myself. Even though I was friends with her before the two of them got together. And then he called me "chicken shit" because I didn't answer my phone when he wanted to call and abuse me. Yeh, cause I really wanted to break my phone last night and have to buy a new one. Fucking hell. Some people are that stupid - can't a guy and a girl be friends any more?

Sorry if this hits a hard spot for you guys, but I truely believe that if you can poke fun at one thing, (anything! Race, teenage pregnancy, mentally handicapped people), then you can poke fun at everything. All or nothing. So perhaps it is cruel to joke about rape, but I've had plenty of disasterous things happen to me in my life as well. Things that (obviously) aren't funny at the time, or hell, even two weeks later, or even a few years. But eventually you almost HAVE to poke fun at it. To keep you sane. To remind yourself that things aren't all dark and spooky and that there can be a light side to absolutely everything.


I know the majority won't agree with me here, but these are my beliefs. Take 'em or leave 'em.


Oh, and I feel it's necissary to mention that yes, there has to be discretion. You don't go screaming "rape is funny" while falsely attending a rape recovery meeting. Clearly.

A friend of mine's boyfriend died the other day. I'm not really sure how to react to it, because my situation with her is a rather odd one.

She was a girl I was REALLY into for the longest time (and still am), so I was understandably jealous to know she got a bf.

Then this happened, and all I can think of is how terrible it must be for her. I've been hesitant to contact her personally about it, as she could misconstrue it as me trying to move in on her (she just has that opinion of me, although we *are* friends), but I left her a message with my condolences. I feel I'm probably one of the last people she needs to hear from in such a situation.

It's a lot more complicated than it sounds, but right now, that's as good an explanation of our situation as I can muster.

It kinda hit me hard for some reason. I never met the guy, but I care about her enough to know that he must've been something to win her over, and from what her friends tell me, she's been a wreck since it happened. I could've been a douche and thought "good riddance", but I don't. I'm sick of people that I care about getting hurt, and I wish it hadn't happened.

We're not sure exactly how he died, but indications hint it may have been an overdose. I don't know if she was the one who found him, where he was found, or anything else. Toxicology reports won't be completed for several weeks.

I'm kind of out of it, so if this doesn't make much sense...well, that's as coherent as I can get right now...
