I'M GETTING A KITTEN ON FRIDAY! >.<
All the more reason to love this magical day of the week. Kittens, Rebecca Black, and being off college for the weekend all make this day nothing short of spectacular! :)

One of my favorite Melodic Death Metal bands:
Hypocrisy
Dark, melodic, yet catchy. This video also has a pretty good looking chick dancing around seductively.
There is no time
No time to regret
The eraser's coming for your life
You got to run
Stay away from the light
The eraser's here to twist your mind
Feel your soul connected to the universe
The solstice is complete
They controlled your thoughts
You will remember now, what it's all about
Twist the end around, violation
It's burning deep and twisting under your skin
It scares you forever
The proof you will find in your dreams
Been loving this song!

I'm open to most types of music, but most metal like that is fucking terrible. I can't stand the production quality of most of it, it's like literal ear rape. I have no idea how people can listen to that, exclusively. It's noise, bad noise. I feel nothing listening to it.
Just my opinion of course. I'm sure some people could say the exact same about some of my favourites.

lol I actually think that's pretty catchy heavy metal. My friends can't stand more aggressive, in your face metal bands like the one below:
Circle of Dead Children
And one of my personal favorite bands in terms of pure chaos and aggression is
Agoraphobic Nosebleed
Both of these bands tend to lean more towards "noise" but I still love them to death. Agoraphobic Nosebleed is sometimes even considered to be within the genre of "Noise-grind". I'm sure you'll find them to fall into that genre quite well. My friend actually gets a headache when I listen to Agoraphobic Nosebleed around him.
So compared to Grind bands like these, Hypocrisy, Detonation and other Melodic Death bands sound like pop rock to me, that's why it may sound weird when I call a Death Metal band "catchy".
I also listen to alternative rock groups like Three Days Grace, Breaking Benjamin, Godsmack, Hoobastank etc. as well as a few hip hop groups such as Necro, Twiztid, HaLFBrEEd, 13 Amp, Canibus, GrewSum, Lo Key, etc. and a few electronic groups: Dawn of Ashes, Aesthetic Perfection, Alien Vampires, some Progressive Metal acts like Dream Theater and a few jazz groups. So my taste is all over the place in terms of music, but heavy metal is my favorite.

Out of their 10 studio albums, one was dedicated to covers.
Not sure how that makes them a cover band.

They were a metal band. One of the greatest. But now I hear Metallica on the classic rock station. Its crazy to think that someday music from this generation will be on the oldies station.

And none of us would dare turn to that station. Ever.

Every band does covers, does that make them nothing but cover bands as well? I think Metallica is garbage, but that doesn't invalidate their decades of original work.

Fine, you want an opinion, I'll give you my reasons.
I hear more of the stuff that they've covered on the radio, when they were being played on the radio, than their own original work. Leaving me the feeling that their cover music is more popular than their own stuff.
The last time I heard something original from them was St Anger... And I think when that album came out, I heard that song twice on the radio.
And Ninja, please... I know that every band, or almost every band covers a song. It's not that hard to notice since I love Motorhead and they've done a few covers... But I don't think they're all cover bands. If their covers get played more than their originals, then they're considered a cover band. To me, that is. To you, obviously not.
Don't like the way I think, oh well. The music industry has put me to shame. My favorite stuff I am unable to hear anymore because the station went away. And while it had its last moments on the air before it went off, they played nothing but Metallica. The music industry sucks, people would rather hear B-96 shit and be fine with it.
I on the other hand, instead would prefer listening to the Christmas station than anything else.

I only like instrumental metal, and feuer frei lol.
What sucks about metal is that the only way for me to listen to it, besides the stuff I have on my iPod, are the music stations that I have with my channel box. And the only metal they play is scream-o.
I HATE that with a passion, can hardly understand a single word that they're saying. What I listen to is now classified as classic metal.
I remember being back in the second grade, when Rob Zombie was actually awesome to listen to, my music was considered scary in the ears of some of my friends and the music teacher at my elementary school refused to play P.O.D.'s "Youth of the Nation."
It was very hard to play some of my music for "Music Day" when we had that. Even though Blink-182 isn't metal, still, even some of their material was not appropriate, even when we were in the sixth grade.
Music is a complicated thing, thank goodness that I'm not majoring in it unlike all the other people I know.

I'm a metalhead and metal fanatic, and a super sub-genre whore. I'm one of those people who can tell you what sub-genre of metal any band is just by listening to one song by them. There's various characteristics that separate each sub-genre from one another. To the untrained ear all metal will sound the same, but there's HUGE differences in all of the various forms. Here are some of my favorite sub-genres
Alternative Metal is soft, all clean sung (no growling) metal. It basically just sounds like rock music. These kinds of bands will occasionally try to yell at some point in a song, but it will usually only be like one syllable throughout an entire song, and never an entire verse, let alone a full word is ever yelledEvan's Blue is good Alternative Metal but most popular bands are Alternative, Breaking Benjamin comes to mind too.
Black Metal is satanic metal that features members painted up in black and white corpse paint and utilizing an extremely high pitched style of growling for vocals. Keyboards are often used in Black Metal. Dragonlord is a good example but Gorgoroth is the perfect examplesince they're super satanic.
Death Metal is a slower paced form of metal that has extremely low (and almost always) unrecognizable style of grunting performed at extremely low pitches. Pure Death Metal always has a very low guttural sounding vocalization work Pathology is the perfect example
Deathcore is a faster paced version of Death Metal that blends with Hardcore music and utilizes a mixture of high pitched vocals and low grunts while throwing in traditional Hardcore "breakdowns" where the tempo slows down drastically. Chelsea Grin is a great example
Grindcore is extremely hectic, chaotic metal that follows no real time signatures. Vocal styles can be all over the place and can often sound like just noise. Psyopus is a great example
Metalcore is considered the most mainstream version of modern metal. It uses "yells" instead of growls as well as clean singing and the traditional Hardcore breakdowns where the tempo slows down periodically. All That Remains is the best example
Melodic Death Metal is just that, Melodic Death Metal. It uses high pitched vocals (not as high as Black) and almost always focuses around instrumentation and tends to be heavy on guitar solos throughout songs. Keyboards and clean singing is sometimes common in Melodic Death Metal. Children of Bodom is the best example
Nu Metal is a style of metal that borrows from hip-hop from time to time, sometimes featuring rapped vocals and sometimes featuring turn tables in the music. Nu Metal is usually clean sung but features a lot of screaming vocals too. The vocals are screamed in Nu Metal, not growled as in Deathcore, Death Metal, Black Metal, or Grindcore. You can tell the difference between a yell and a growl too if you just listen to a Nu Metal band then a band from one of the genres I mentioned. Some good examples of Nu Metal are Slipknot, Disturbed, Twisted Method, Mudvayne and Old Linkin Park
Of course there's a LOT more sub-genres than these, such as Thrash (Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax, Slayer, etc.) and Progressive and Groove Metal, but I just wanted to clarify some of the differences between the various genres because too many times people assume all metal is the same when it's not. Linkin Park sounds nothing like Children of Bodom, and neither of these bands sound anything like All That Remains. Sorry if I went all sub-genre Nazi, lol. As for the Metallica discussion, they used to be Thrash Metal, but now I wouldn't even consider them so much as metal anymore, they're more Alternative or Hard Rock now. I've never been a fan of them either so I don't really care. Their songs suck and all of the members are egotistical assholes. They actually told Dave Mustaine that he wasn't good enough to be in their band, have you hear him in Megadeth? Pretty damn good if you ask me. Plus Metallica isn't the best at their instruments either. Josh Middleton (Sylosis) or Alexi Laiho (Children of Bodom) are way better guitarists, and Tim Yeung (Divine Heresy, Vital Remains, Nile, and Morbid Angel) is easily the greatest drummer to ever live, so Lars from Metallica needs to get that dildo out of his ass, that guy is one cocky motherfucker.
