This article among dozens of other things I've heard, read and seen about law school. I'm still working on my prerequisites so I've got time to switch my major if I have to, but not knowing what I'm going to do in the future is frustrating to say the least.
I'd recommend what I'm doing, however what I'm doing is fairly expensive and time consuming. I'm working on completing my undergrad in three years so I can attempt to get my Masters prior to my going to law school. So, pick something you think you could do for a living, get your B.A. and hold in the back of your mind that you still may go to law school. So, once you've got a degree in__________you can say, well I like this, "I think I'll just keep doing this", or "I think I'd still like to be an attorney", or best of the options "Hey, I can use this degree along with a a law degree to help me find work in a niche branch of law."
That's sort of what I hope to do. Right now I am an Anthropology major, and I intend to get both my Bachelors and Masters degrees in Anthropology, (in the sub-field of Archaeology, if anyone is interested) then, God willing, I get my J.D. At this point I would so much like to start my PhD but I know I'm gonna be out of cash and going into a little bit of debt at that point, so I would try for work in either field. I'm not picky, I'll take what I can get. Ideally, I would go for something in Cultural Resource Law. A job in Cultural Resource Law would be just about perfect, as it would call upon both of my fields of study, and from my years of living on the Nez Perce reservation, I've seen it in practice. The tribe always brings in lawyers if they feel the forest, the government, or private enterprise is threatening something they deem culturally relevant.
Anyway, I'd say since Pre-Law is not a required route to go to law school, I'd say set yourself up with something you like; something you think you can do. Then, get that degree and decide what's right based on what you like and economic factors of the time. Who knows? Maybe Romney and Obama are telling the truth when they promise a golden age of jobs, beautiful people, soft toilet seats, and odorless farts if we elect/reelect them.
