So it's been confirmed earlier today that the new Green Lantern in DCU's reboot is a gay man. No, It's not Hal Jordan but someone by the name of Alan Scott. It seems as though he is a recycled character from the old story lines. You can read all about it here
Green Lantern is gay
I personally think this is a pretty cool thing that DC is doing, with him being the first openly gay character is DC's history. There have been few in Marvel's
roster, like Northstar who is getting married (Congrats!) hahaha and of course plenty of other superheros across the planet like Sailor Neptune ans Uranus.
With the recent support from Obama it seems as though people may finally be coming to terms with same sex relationships...but there will always be those who constantly oppose. I just think this is great, not because I myself am gay, even if I was straight I'd still be in awe. It's just nice to see great things happen before your eyes.
What other gay superheroes are out there?

Batwoman and The Question are both DC heroes that are lesbians.
As for my feelings about it... I really don't have any. It's just basic stuff to me... a large portion of people are gay or bisexual, including many girlfriends I've had. Stands to reason there would be a few superheroes of the same persuasion. If it promotes tolerance, I'm all for it.

Pardon me, I seem to have gotten my information mixed up. I read that this new Green Lantern was the first out gay hero in the DCU, maybe they meant in the new timeline.
Also Wonder Woman is a lesbian? Is that an inkling you have or is it fact? I know she grew up without men and all that but I just don't see it with her hahaha.
and Spider-Man...what about Gwen Stacey and Mary Jane? Were they just cover-ups for him? lol...the new movie looks awesome btw...def gonna see it when it comes out. Not too keen on his costume though, maybe it'll grow on me

There's a new, black Spider-Man who I heard might be gay... haven't read up much on him beyond that, though.
And just take a moment to think about Wonder Woman the Amazons and Themyscura. They've lived under the iron rule that they aren't allowed to be around men or even allow men on their island. Don't you think they may have done a bit of "sensual exploring" during their thousands of years on that island ;)?

oh ok..I thought you meant Peter Parker's Spider-Man. Now that you mention it I do think I might've read about it somewhere a while ago

Yea I see where you're coming from with that but for some reason I just don't see it with her though I don't doubt that some of the other Amazons may be swimming in the lady pond.

She's definitely not a lesbian, but I'm pretty sure that they've hinted at her being bisexual. She's had things with a grip of men, though... so definitely not lesbian.

I used question marks because I was unsure. I might be wrong about Wonder Woman, but I'm pretty sure that the new Spiderman, the half black/ half Hispanic one, is rumored to eventually come out as a homosexual.

That would feel really forced and contrived.

There's also Apollo and Midnighter.

Thats pretty neat. I just hope that they don't make him that stereotypical gay man that the media shoves down our throats.
I kind of don't want his sexuality to be a huge thing for him. I still want him to act like he did in the other comics, but you know be a gay man.

Haha, I feel you on that. They might as well call him Minority-Man. It's all good though.
I think they do this now just because gay people are becoming more accepted in the world a bit by bit and have caught attention recently. $$$
I'm completely fine with the idea but this makes me feel that they just "want to make sure every subgroup is (mostly stereotypically) taken into account" instead of seeing 360 degrees, noting every (meta)human type and creating the best, diverse and the most intriguing characters possible.

Damn it, my secret identity has been revealed.
Heard about this on TMZ, why that is because they were making note about if it could effect the movie... Okay?
It'll be nice to see this come out. I mean, comics does the unthinkable at time, just wondering why this took such a long time to actually do. And to be honest, I seriously would have thought that Marvel would be the first to make a gay super hero. Guess Stan Lee couldn't think of one.

Isn't this character supposedly in some alternate Earth or whatever? Still basing off of what I've been hearing on TMZ since I'm not really into the whole comic book thing.

Yup, I saw that tmz episode your talking about. One of Harvey's guys was trying to explain the differences, but they kind of shrugged it off still confused.

As long as they don't make a huge thing out of it, there shouldn't be any problems. They should focus mostly on making him a cool, likeable, and relatable (not just to gay people based on the fact that he's gay) guy just like any other super hero. The only difference should be that his romance is with another guy instead of a woman.
...or they could just make everyone gay. Then maybe some people straight will covert. We do have an imminent overpopulation problem to worry about. Maybe this is the answer.

Marvel was the first.
In fact, they have a whole array of gay heroes and villians, most notably, Northstar (hero), and Mystique (villian), as well as her long time lover Destiny.
