I remember first telling my friends Ashley and Joey about me...it was in 8th grade. We were sitting in the hallway at school for some reason. Anyway...when I told them Ashley started to cry tears of joy because she always wanted a gay friend and Joey was really cool about it.
My parents found out around the same time because I left evidence of an "internet boyfriend" hahaha...geez. we didn't really speak about it too much afterwards. Except this one time my dad asked me if I preferred to top or bottom. Talk about awkward. But between my parents and I, there is a silent understanding.
Fast forward to senior year of high school. All of my friends know about my sexual preference (girls and guys) and the teachers and other students as well. Slient understanding again. But I suppose to the people who didn't really know me I was outed around sometime around December 2009. Let me set it up for you:
It was a school sanctioned event in the intermediate high cafeteria. A dinner of sorts. Fast forward to the end of the night...I'm in the boys lockerroom getting a bj from two fellow gay students. News broke and by the following Monday everyone in the high school and even the middle school knew that I was gay...but they didn't know it was me involved in that little sitch. Needless to say I was suspended for the rest of the week but everyone still supported me and continued to have me back. :)
Heart-warming, no?

Good thread. I enjoyed reading everyone's stories. Thank you all for having the courage to speak on it. I feel like homosexuality is pretty much accepted these days, but there are still a lot of close minded people out there... Usually age or religion being the reason. Oh religion... I wish it would go away...
I'm heterosexual, but I support equal rights for all. I believe people should be allowed to do as they please, as long as their actions do not infringe on the freedoms of others (and homosexuality doesn't infringe on others).
Keep being your beautiful selves!
Just another straight guy for gay rights.

I suppose that I should inform you all of my "coming out" story?
(I "outted" myself on Facebook about a week before)
Anywho...
Basically, I asked my Mother if she loved me... Of course, being the Goddess that she is, she said "yes."
*Deep Breath*
"I'm bisexual."
(I'm strictly gay, but at the time it was far easier to come to terms with; sort of like a "foot in the door" kind of thing.)
My Father just-so-happened to walk into the room at almost the exact same time, so it was only necessary for me to repeat myself.
His response was as follows: "No shit, I think that we've always known."
My response: "Me too."
---------------
They've gradually been able to accept it, but my Father still thinks that it's not something that I should publicize.
Which, I think merely looking at me is more than enough indication...

I actually agree with your father.
There is no point in making a big deal about one's sexual orientation, because in all actuality, it really doesn't matter. As stated before, that's how I was able to come out as easily as I did (albeit I came out at age 19).
In any case, I'm very glad both of your parents accept you for who you are. It's rare enough having one accepting parent, let alone two.

My boyfriend and I were talking about this. How some "straight" guys say that they'll only have sex with another guys, but they WON'T be the receiver, because they're not gay. To me that's pretty funny. The two guys are still having sex either way. Sex is sex.

Years and years ago, I decided I was gay, and that I wanted to do something about it. (just find someone to date. I was kind of desperate, but alot of us are just starting out, lol) So I call this telephone dating line, which to this day is still really awful, and talk to this guy who sounds really nice. We make plans to hang out at midnight around a mall. Granted, he lives about 30 miles away and had to take a bus.
So at around 11:30 I'm all ready to walk out the door to meet him, and my parents stop me. They ask me where i'm going at 11 30 at night, and I did NOT want to tell them that I was going to meet a guy. They got suspicious after 5 minutes of me trying to think, lol, and they made me come back in.
This didn't sit well with the guy I was supposed to meet, being as he had taken a bus to get there, and the bus had stopped running. (He was stuck at the mall for 8 hours with nothing to do, lol). He calls my house, asking for me, and when my mom asked who it was, he said "I'm Matt's boyfriend. He's supposed to meet me."
I was mortified. Not only did I not know the guy well enough to call him a friend, let alone boyfriend, my parents really started flipping out, The whole nine yards. Mom crying, Dad preaching. And what's worse, my sister came out a few months later to them, and they blamed HER for me being gay, lol.
They seem okay with it now, not exactly comfortable, but they know a tiger can't change it's stripes.

Be gay, get dragon points? Anyways, Im not gay but I am a crossdresser and as such Im pretty close with the trans-gendered and gay communities All of my closest friends know. Girlfriend: Was apprehensive at first but now fully supportive, loans me clothes and such. Makes jokes based on my feminisms. Good Times. Kris: Kris is an oddball anyways and I inspired him to write transexual erotica. He calls me time to time for accuracy and such. Jarod: Jarod doesn't care so it rarely comes up. Stew: I'm not sure how Stew feels about it. He stays in touch but much less often than he used to. *shrug* How do I feel about it, well its just who I am. I dont do it all the time (about 50.50). I dont think its quite the same as being gay, but my feeling is this: Don't come out to anyone who doesn't need to know unless it will strengthen the relationship you have with that person. I think my mother would be fine with it, but does she need to know? Nope. So I dont tell her, same with a couple of my other friends. It just wouldnt do anything positive for my life or theirs. I think thats the rule of thumb. Don't come out just for the sake of coming out. Come out to people who need to know or will be better for knowing.
CHEERS!

No, it's because we dare to open up on a forum like this and tell our story.

Open up about being gay, on a forum where a lot of people are gay in a thread where everyone is gay?
SO...MUCH... SKILL
What I mean is that I dont understand the concept of coming out for the sake of coming out. Its selfish (we come out for ourselves, not for those around us). Its not an act of bravery.

Good ratings: "(1 or more dragons/points) are given to those with good posts (mostly intelligent, thought provoking, helpful or beneficial to the community, but criteria can vary)."
-------------------
It's not necessarily that it involves skill, but I'm sure that there's still a few individuals that are closeted. Posts such as these are meant to inspire, I presume?
People also get dragon points for posting pictures in the Show Off Your Pretty Faces Thread, which doesn't necessary involve skill either...
Simply put, I think that both of these are examples of what makes this place a good community; that is why the points are given.
