I can see where you are coming from, especially with some of the recent Nova iterations, like in the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon, the Disney Infinity 2.0 game and even in the recent comics.

But I think this is Marvel, in some ways is fan service for the Firefly fans seeing as how Guardians already has that vibe going for it, and maybe James Gunn just wanted to throw Nathan Fillion a bone since the two worked together in "Slither".

- Empire's Guardians Of The Galaxy Covers Are Here

Franchise adaptations like these have always been about concessions. Thirty years ago it was about what slither they'll keep that anchors the movie version to what it's based on. Progress was getting more recognizable versions of the license on the screen. Things are much better now, but by and large, you still count on things being simplified and broadened to appeal. [These days, some younger movie weened fans even demand it.]

Guardians of the Galaxy already goes so far out of the box, it's just a bit of a bummer that they haven't done it bringing the comics to life in a more literal way.

It's a personal complaint. A creative complaint. By no means an assessment of quality of the film, or a diminishment of its potential to be a satisfying Guardians of the Galaxy movie. Nice cover, but that Ronan The Accuser is just disappointing. You've gone there. Why not go there?

- James Gunn and Nathan Fillion Quash Those Nova and Cosmo Rumors

“There’s so much bullshit on the internet,” Gunn tells Nerdist. “I woke up – first it’s ‘Nathan’s Nova!’, then there are articles all over saying Nathan’s Cosmo. It’s like, ‘What?!’..."

I guess those Nova casting concerns are completely non-applicable.

- Vin Diesel talks up Guardians Of The Galaxy's family appeal

"My youngest who is 3 yrs old, has never been to a movie theatre before in his life," said Diesel via Facebook. "Today, I was invited by Disney and Marvel to see the latest cut of Guardians Of The Galaxy and I was able to take the angels. WOW!!!!!"

"To Marvel, Disney, the incredible cast and team and especially James Gunn... Thank you for making a GREAT MOVIE! It was amazing and will always be special, for it was the first film I was able to take my family to see and oh how they loved it."

That's some nice salesmanship from Diesel there, who pleasingly signed off the post with his new catchphrase, "I AM GROOT!!!" Yes you are, sir. Yes you are

- Guardians Of The Galaxy Extended Clip Delivers 5 Minutes Of Footage

Cosmic Book News has brought us the video above, which is about 5 minutes long and includes a more detailed look at the Guardians during their time at The Kyln – a rather infamous space prison. We've seen parts of all three sequences the clip has to show us before, but we get to see more detail into how the entire sequence will move. New details include Rocket's ignorance of his existence as a raccoon (as well as the hardware that's given him his intelligence), Groot's catchphrase starting to wear thin on Star Lord, and a good smattering of jailhouse action.

Spoilers: (Highlight to reveal)
Also in the extended look is the first mention of Thanos (by name, at least) in the context of the actual Marvel Cinematic Universe. While we (naturally) don't get a good look at his face, we do hear the story of how Nebula and Gamora are both on loan to Ronan The Accuser, which has the Nova Corps suspicious that the two titans are working together through Thanos' daughters. But perhaps the most effective moment of this clip, at least in my opinion, is the moment that we see Star Lord notice Rocket's aforementioned hardware. You can cue up your video to 03:23, if you want to see what I'm talking about.

- SDCC: James Gunn Writing, Directing "Guardians of the Galaxy" Sequel

ith just a week until the highly anticipated opening of "Guardians of the Galaxy," and a day until Marvel's Comic-Con International presentation, word arrives that James Gunn will return to write and direct the sequel.

The news, which shouldn't be a surprise, considering early reviews for the space adventures, comes courtesy of Nicole Perlman, who penned an early draft of the film and is credited as co-writer.

“James will be directing 'Guardians 2,'" she told TheWrap, "so he would also be writing 'Guardians 2'." Perlman's involvement is less certain, although she said she'd like to work with Marvel again.

- SDCC 2014: Marvel Announces GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Animated Series

With high praise coming from early screenings, Marvel looks to be doubling down on Guardians of the Galaxy. At Saturday's Marvel Animation panel at Comic-Con International: San Diego 2014, a one minute test reel was shown for an upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy animated series.

The 60-second clip opens on a rainy, futuristic city skyline that drills down into Rocket Raccoon attempting to out-running a floating probe shooting lasers. Rocket jumps off a tall structure and rolls through to meet his pursuer with guns drawn and destroys the probe. An off-screen voice becks Rocket, saynig "Hey fuzzy!" before revealing itself to be Star-Lord. Rocket Raccoon turns to face Star-Lord, and is met with Peter Quill saying "if we're going to be hanging out together you're going to need bigger blasters." The scene then faded out to be replaced by the Guardians of the Galaxy logo.

- The Guardians Of The Galaxy Bring Some Friends To Minecraft Xbox 360

Minecraft on Xbox 360 is going to be getting a new pack of skins very soon. The Marvel Minecraft universe is about to expand with 24 skins based on The Guardians of the Galaxy film and comic.

The bundle isn’t dated or priced yet, but the previously-released Avengers pack that included 35 skins is $2.99 on Xbox Live.

Pretty fun promotional tie-in!

The movie currently holds a 97% rating on Rotton tomato and IGN gave it a 9.2. Arguably one of Marvel's best movies (i know it gets old, with ever new movie, but considering how out of left field the movie is to begin with...)

Guardian's was pretty good. I don't think it's the best Marvel film, but it may have the best performance of any Marvel film.

Spoilers: (Highlight to reveal)
Thanos was a little unwhelming. I get that this wasn't his movie, but if you're going to set up the gauntlet wielder himself, I would have made him much more ominous and more sinister than he did. He looked okay, though.

- Box Office Shocker: 'Guardians of the Galaxy' Eyes $95M-Plus Debut

The galactic superhero tent-pole earned $11.2 million Thursday night alone, besting the $10.2 million earned in early April by fellow Marvel title "Captain America: The Winter Soldier."

James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy is soaring at the Friday box office for a possible $95 million-plus North American debut, far more than expected and marking another sizable victory for Marvel Studios as it launches a new franchise outside of the Avengers series.

Went and saw this hilarious film (in 3-D) with my girlfriend Thursday night. My local movie theater hosted some folks over from TATE'S Comics to cosplay as various members of the Guardians of the Galaxy. I would upload my pictures with them, but they came out blurry.

Also, they did a Q&A before screening the film and I won this cool little Star Lord bobble-head toy as a prize. Fun experience all together.

Saw this Thursday night. The theater I was in was way more packed than I thought it would be for movie starring a bunch of C and D list comic book characters. But it turned out great, so hopefully this is an indication that Marvel can go weird and against the status-quo of what a super hero movie should be. It certainly makes me look forward to Doctor Strange.

Saw this at an early showing and I gotta say it's proooooobably my favorite Marvel movie to date. The whole thing was a rollercoaster ride and it was awesome seeing the beautiful Xandar on the silver screen.

I wanted to explore more of Xandar and especially Knowhere with the whole Cyber punk vibe I got from the skull planet. It was really comfy. I'll also say that Batista did a fantastic job with Drax. I thought he was gonna be the weaker point of the movie, but I really enjoyed his character and I saw he had fun with it. So, good job Bootista.

I think the only characters that were kinda blandish were Gamora and Ronan, but not too bad. Gamora had some cool lines and Ronan worked well at the end with
Spoilers: (Highlight to reveal)
Peter doing his dance distraction. Ronan worked well right there
as well as Gamora

and her Kevin Bacon line really made me laugh.

Every one else though was outstanding. Pratt as Star Lord was great. Cooper with Rocket was amazing and my favorite character in the film. Diesel was awesome as Groot. Really looking forward to GotG 2.
Spoilers: (Highlight to reveal)
I can't wait to see Adam Warlock.

Also really cool post credits scene. It was goofy and I keep thinking if they're actually serious with that or if that was a one time thing. Hopefully the former because I was marking out when it happened. I know, I'm terrible.

I must say, I think this movie's end credits' scene left more people confused at the theater I saw than X-Men's sequel.

I got what it was and such but man people were scratching their heads. And the only reason why I threw the X-Men's sequel is because at the theater I went, people were literally stumped as to what they saw.

But, besides all that, I really enjoyed my time watching this movie. I'd definitely see it again. I'm just not a huge fan of Zoe. She never really appealed to me in anything that she's been in.

And Avatar kinda really did leave a shitty impression on majority of the actors in it. 'Cept for Sigourney.
