You don't see too many people getting slashed in apartment buildings. It's usually large suburban houses. Come to think of it:
Don't live in the suburbs. Killers tend to have something against suburbanites, so if a killer is on the loose, move into the city. The killer will probably find you anyway, but it'll take a lot longer, so it can buy you some time.
