It seems the Metal Gear game fans have been waiting for has been finally announced at Konami's Metal Gear 25th Anniversary event: Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes.
The unveiling consisted of a real-time demo, but at this stage all English language reports about what was shown have come through Twitter. Guests were reportedly asked not to post about what they were seeing, but many did so anyway. While some posts were deleted within minutes, the picture that emerged is that Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes is an open-world game and was reportedly demoed on current-gen PC.
It's also running on the new FOX Engine and has left those at the event amazed.
@kazamatsuri said, "Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeroes demo was truly amazing, running on a PC at current-gen specs. Wow."
@markmacd tweeted, "Demo of "Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeroes", started w cutscene (all realtime), went into gameplay, open world, night, raining, base. AMAZING," followed by "Snake crawled @ avoiding searchlights, killed guard, rode jeep, called in heli for evac. Sounds like MG, but the scale & atmosphere... Wow."
@ItCameFromJapan chimed in with more details, saying, "Ground Zeroes on Fox Engine - rich detail, open world, and Old Snake is back!"
It is not known when Konami will reveal the Ground Zeroes to the rest of the world.
Earlier this week, during the latest Kojima Productions podcast, Kojima Productions' Chris Johns claimed announcements made at the Metal Gear 25th Anniversary event would "shake" the industry.
Sounds fun. Hopefully they will release a video soon.

Seems to be set back in time well before MGS4, which is good because Snake can fight something other than arthritis.
They're also talking about a potential movie directed by Avi Arad...
As much as I love this game's series, I don't want a movie adaption. You know, video games haven't been remotely successful in the movie industry, and I cannot let this series be apart of the failure that is Bloodrayne, Doom, Mario, Wing Commander, and Resident Evil's never ending sequels.
Although Ground Zeroes, looking forward on seeing when it's revealed.

The movie I'm not so interested in, but MGS: GZ sounds like it could be a great game. And apparently this FOX Engine is making this game look fan fucking tastic. I'm kinda hoping it will be a PC only game.

"On stage at the event, Kojima also announced a Metal Gear Solid film. It will be produced by Marvel producer Avi Arad for Columbia Pictures."
–X360AOn that picture of Snake, you can see an eyepatch under the straps holding the goggles, the MSF logo from Peace Walker is on his shoulder, and the sneaking suit looks like a more highly rendered version of the one from Portable Ops.
EDIT: The Goggles themselves resemble the ones from MGS3 as well...

An open world MGS game? I'm not really sure what that entails. They also said that it's running on current gen PC. Does that mean that we'll see this on 360 and PS3 or will it be next gen? Curious.
As for the movie, I'm really curious to see how they'll handle it, as MGS has been a rumored movie property for years and years now. Will they make it all corny like the G.I. Joe movie? Will they try to make it more realistic and something more akin to a Tom Clancy movie? Or will they go for the more gritty, realistic version of unrealistc characters ala Nolan's Batman films?
I'd agree with Icebaby though as far as actually doing an MGS movie. Was this really necessary? Is there any way in which a movie can live up to the games? Or will this be a "slap famous actor in movie and collect box office based on actor/franchise recognition" type of a deal?
Lot's of questions, I guess! But either way, it's nice to see this series continue. I love the games and while I'm weary of a movie as well as attaching the term "open world" to an MGS game... There's still a ton more to be revealed, so for now, I say bring it on!

I'm really liking the open world element idea, gonna wait for a video to judge anything though
This should take away my disappointment with Rising, that pissed me off

So we play as Big Boss...again. That's fine. The few b-roll scenes I've seen show that the Fox Engine can at least render a decent looking forest environment. The open world concept for MGS could work great. The series is really due for something new. MGRising is a great start, and I'm really looking forward to that, and this will add to my continued interest in the story.
An MGS movie is interesting, but since there's 3 to 4 different time periods that it could take place with 3 to 4 leading characters it could have, there's tons of ways a movie called "Metal Gear" could be made and still feel like it belongs in the series.
If it HAS to follow one of the games, it should be either of the MSX games because the stories to those are relatively simple, or Metal Gear: Solid. Avoid all the bullshit and baggage the series took on post MGS2.
Personally, I think it needs to take a lesson from the Resident Evil movies. Do it's own thing. Don't follow the games, maybe make some references to what happened in them, but tell a new story set in the Metal Gear universe. Trying to make a movie version of a game is already setting it up for failure.
If I had my way though, I'd have it focus on The Boss and her unit during WWII. Make it a gritty war movie but with some of the slight lunacy the series is known for, just not enough to completely alienate the general public because, let's be honest, that's where most of the revenue is going to come from.

Well Peace Walker and Portable Ops cover the events post Snake Eater. They even introduce Grey Fox in POps as Null.
In ign comments on the story someone says its Zero as Zeroes was a translation error.
Still excited as shit about this.
As for the movie I'm nervous and wonder who could play snake. Christian Bale I believe won't. As the producer is the same as Xmen Hugh Jackman is possible. Personally I wouldn't mind Jon Hamm as Snake, just curious to see if he can do the Snake voice

uh, I'm pretty sure those were all answered in MGS3 and MGS4.I'd be down for a game that featured a few things:
Boss/The Joy and how she earned her nickname

The events after Snake Eater with Zero, Para Medic, Signet, Ocelot, Eva and Big Boss.

That was awesome. Hideo Kojima said he wouldn't mind making a game about the story of The Boss.

Visually it looks really nice, and the open world nature seems like it'll be what the franchise needs to keep it relevant. I just hope the vehicle controls are good enough to where it'd actually be worth hijacking an enemy jeep or armored transport. If the car has tank controls, I can easily see myself skipping that entire feature of the game.

I hope you will be able to utilize the vehicles in different ways. Not only use them as transportation, but also as an distraction. For an example, placing a brick or rock on the gas petal and make it ram into a part of the base to make enemies attention to that specific spot so you can creep on over to another spot undetected.
I think that would be a cool little feature.

I came a little when they started playing "Here's to you" in that trailer.
