Mortal Kombat seriously lacks gameplay depth, unless you can prove me otherwise. What are your interesting strategies in what games? Do you know what the 50/50 problem is? Do you know what back dash cancel is? Do you know what universal tracking is? Do you know what a tier list is? Do you know what a safe move is? Do you know what a poker is? Do you know what a hypertaunt is? Do you? Probably not. And that's ok. But saying that MK is better than VF shows you have no idea how MK works, let alone VF. By the way TJ, that was a nice picture, but it had nothing to do whatsoever with this topic. Cheers, VQ |
Saying all that crap just made you loose site of the reason for playing video games.I don't have to know all that crap you just said. All I know is that MK is the first reall fighting game I've evr played. Did'nt it come out in '92?I was about 4 when I first played it.I fell in love with it.I don't care about all that stuff.Maybe it's cool to have all that stuff but it's not for me.I try not to look into every detail in the game.I'm trying to have fun.Not piont out it's flaws. If it makes you happy.Mail me your vf4.I'll play it and tell you if ti's better than MK.iF IT IS.You're the great Ceasar fighting games.
The picture was an example of what he'll findin fan art.I intraduced him to this site.I was trying to show him a picture he could use 4 his screen saver. It was not of topic.I clarrified myself.
Thatz on the compliment on the picture though.

You can't be serious. As much as I like Mortal Kombat, it'll never be anything more than a mediocre fighting game that relies far too heavily on gimmicks.

Pay attention. I didn't say that MK (in this case MK5) was better than VF4. I said I didn't like VF. VF4 is from a technical standpoint, better than MKDA, but that dosen't make it fun. DA isn't fun either, but I've said that in plenty of threads on the other boards here.
So pay some fucking attention to my post this time : I'm not talking about VF in comparison to MK. I'm saying that to me, Virtua Fighter is boring. Cool?
But good gimmicks

Despite MK's appeal to general gamers and what it sells it won't be as good of a "fighting" game as Tekken, Soul Calibur or Virtua Fighter.
MK is a good gaming series for everything except that fact that it isn't a good fighting series.
Story, gimmicks, modes, characters are all fine, but that isn't what makes a good fighting game.
A good fighting game depends on it's gameplay, which is lacking whether you happen to have fun playing or not.

@ FLSTYLE:
I've gotta disagree with one thing you mentioned. MKD won't dominate sales like many here hope it will. MKDA never made it into the number 1 spot, whereas SC2 and Tekken have, and as VF has come very close to. MKD won't do much better than DA. I doubt it even outsells MK5.

MK has the most imagination and blood, guts, and action. I usually look for the most imagination in games; creativity and originality. Boring crappy stuff that's all new wave and lacking color isn't that fun to me :[

I find Soul Calibur extremly over rated. The fighting engine bores me.My favorite fighting engine of all time is mk3-mkt its insane how many different combos you can come up with and its fast. The thing i hate about todays fighting games is the 3-d look all characters look wayyy to cartoonish and looks like they came out of a comicbook and im so damn sick of the final fantasy fighter look ill explain. The young fighter with a kid like face and white hair wtf? Did he sleep over micheal jacksons house catch my drift.
VF is a different type of fighter than MK.
VF is for people who like to spend lots of time learning the complexities of the fighting engine, and building your own technique from that. It's a very involving fighter, and many people don't like to spend lots of time just learning the basics of the game.
Most other fighters (MK included) involve very little time to "get into" the game, and more or less concentrate on the "jump in and kick butt" concept. There are loads of these types of fighters that do require lots of practice (like Tekken and the Soul series), but they are fairly easy to jump right into.
Neither can actually be called "better" than the other, as it all depends on the types of games you like to play.

DrCube Wrote: Damn. You've gotten me all nostalgic for Pit Fighter. |
In my 20 years of playing videogames, I doubt I have ever laughed as hard as when, while playing Pit Fighter in co-op mode, I'd get the CPU to double-team my pal
BTW, I don't know how I forgot to mention this before, but MKT was ALSO a huge disappointment taking into consideration everything that was promised.

As I think FLstyle and others know we had a huge thread about this in the MKD section about making MKD a better fighting game... MKDA combos are to constricting and only about five players are useable against an opponent who knows the glitches and super damaging style link combos. Its to broken to be a really good fighting in the sense of the fighting engine... Story, blood, mini games, character design, and stages were done well, but the game needs to be more even and though easy to pick up and play, has depth to where is can be mastered... MK, despite what others say, DA at least has little pick up and play value against someone who knows what they are doing do to the inescapeable dial a combos... I love MK, but as far as the fighting engine goes in DA... bleh... later...
