I don't know where to put this, so I decided to make an entire thread about this.

I know I've been a dick to people the last few days about how they don't like what they've seen and I apologize for that, but I am not going to take back what I've said. I have a reason to why I get on the cases of people who have already admitted that there's something about this game that they don't like without giving anything a chance first, and here I go:

I've been a fan of this series since the very beginning, ever since I was one years old, (yes, one years old) I've been playing this game, even if my brother had helped me. To see people bash about all this new coming into the game really bothers me because I certainly don't understand how they can bash it when this series has ALWAYS given us new things. Whether it be characters, new alities, new arenas, they've always given us new features. This series is almost a quarter of a century old, it's very hard to keep giving us old material without adding anything new to it and still keep going.

Sure, we have Mario, but it's not that hard to please kids (and that's not really meant to be an insult to anyone, it IS a kid-friendly game).

It's really aggravating to see people already giving up on the game because they think it's too much like Injustice or they're giving more attention to the newer stuff than the old, which is why I have to ask, why does that bother you? A series that has been around for a very long time certainly should have the right to add more new stuff than the old. We've seen games that have so much potential to be one of the greatest games out there, I feel like it's hard to compete with games these days, so the developers do what they always do and give us something new, even if we all do not accept it. But it's tiresome, really tiresome, to see the impatient grow and immediately bashes it without giving it a chance. I'd be more down to see more new characters than recurring, only because, I would like to see this series change, despite that it's always had, but change even more. It's not hard to say that, because I've always been down to that. I really wouldn't even be that bothered if my all-time favorite, Sub-Zero, sat out for a game or two. It really wouldn't bother me at all.

Don't get me wrong, I completely understand that everyone is bound to change once they get their hands on the game and everyone is certainly entitled to their own opinion, but some of the reasons I've seen just doesn't add up. People don't want more new "crap" being thrown in. I laugh at that because we've always been given new things into the series. This game gives me that nostalgic feeling of Mortal Kombat 2, my all-time favorite game of the series. How does this game do that? Well, let's go back to the 90s, the original Mortal Kombat has already made its impact, and Midway is saying to themselves, "How can we make this game better than the first? I know, let's double everything and add new things to it!" And they perfected the sequel. And this is what they did here. "How can we make this game better than 2011? I know, let's double everything and add new things to it!" And by golly gee wiz, they did it. There's more gruesome looking fatalities, new characters, new arenas, awesome looking costumes even for the recurring characters. They literally perfected 2011's sequel (I'm calling it a sequel).

So please, understand where I am coming from. I am a die hard fan of this series, and yeah that gives me no excuse to act like a dick and as I said before, I apologize to those I aggravated, with no fingers crossed behind my back (I'm not that evil) but as a true die hard fan of the series, it sort of makes me sad to see people immediately bashing the new without giving it a chance or realizing that this series has always done that. I say just try to like something even if it doesn't hit you immediately. We have almost half of this year left (and a few months afterwards in 2015) for info about everything, I'm ready for it already!

I don't know how to end this, so here's a picture of a kitty and a puppy

No need for this, Icey. ^^

This reminds me of back when I felt really hated by everyone on here and I made a thread about it... but then I realized, I am just me and I should continue to just be me, and if people don't like it, well, too bad.

We can all get bitchy and defensive at times, but that's just because we care about this franchise and it is close to our hearts. No need to apologize for that, however, when realizing one's behaviour has turned sour online, take a deep breath and take a break from the internet and go do something you like to get you in a better mood. That's what I do, at least. ^^

You're alright, Icey. At least you know when to take a turn to the right while others on here keep going in the same track. :)

The problem is that, some people are very adamant about their concept regarding MK. They are not good with change. MK fans are the biggest nostalgic people ever. They can't seem to let go of their favorite characters(which is understandable); but they need to give a chance to new characters, concepts, ideas, etc.

The main reason the fans react like this... It comes from the producers of the game. They introduce new characters and then toss them right out next game. Therefore not giving them a chance to continue devolping..
Characters examples:
Kai, Fujin, Jarek (we didn't see them until MKA)
Nitara, Frost, Mavado, Drahmin (we didn't see them again until MKA)

And I know these characters are not the best of them.. But if MK team would had given them a chance at least the following game after their debut, then they would had a bigger fan base then they do now.

Thats really sweet. Now I do feel kinda bad, even though I didn't directly participate in that "things we dislike" argument between you and the others. I'm sorry.

With that being said, I almost never bash anything. I just state that I don't really like it at the moment (in my case its about the gameplay being too injusticy), but that doesn't mean I'm not willing to give it another chance.

Thanks Jaded, I appreciate the heck out of this post. You're right, I think the past three/four days really got the best of me. With the absurd amount of info just splashing in our faces with this game, I guess it's just being in total shock. It's weird because I've never been this defensive before with this series until now. It's great to see a lot of people be this caring about something, and I guess it's just something that's needed getting used to. But thank you again grin And thanks to the others that responded as well (it's hard to keep up with these postings when everyone is on!)

Don't feel bad, it's all right. I know I may not have came off as nice every so often when replying to you, and I apologize for that as well. And it's great to see that if you're not liking something at the moment, you're gonna give it a chance. And that's what I like to see more rather than, "I'm not going to buy this game, ever!" So thank you for the response! And sorry again if I ever came off bitchy in anything.

Yes, I totally agree. I get that the recurring characters are the easiest to like because they're more popular with the developers, and we know they have more of a chance to be in rather than the "newer" characters. And if they were treated the same way as the "newer" ones, they wouldn't have that kind of popularity as much as the others.

However, like you said, they should give new characters a chance... but then how can we if they get treated like they don't belong? (Is what most would probably say) I have a feeling that the "newer" characters are going to have a lot more respect than what they have been gotten before, and yeah, it's easy to quickly judge, but we shouldn't immediately expect that these newer characters are going to be treated like Kai, Fujin, and everyone else you stated who only had a one time appearance before Armageddon. We should all at least appreciate that they're doing something different with the newer characters, and by that I mean add characters that we've never seen before ever in the series, and just appreciate that they're at least trying something new again.

Do you remember how I was back when Freddy Krueger was announced as the 4th DLC character? The rage I flung at everyone in here before announcing my leave from this forum like a proper drama queen?

Yeah, I should've just gone outside, taken a deep breath and then kicked some random passing child in the head to get my frustrations out. That always helps. ^^

I literally almost shed a tear while reading this. You hit on so many points that resonate with me.

Like you, I've been playing this series since the beginning, although I'm about 14 years older than you. Lol. I'm having the same feelings now that I had when I walked into a smokey bowling alley back in 1993 to see Raiden staring at me from the side of a brand new MKII machine. All of it felt so new back then. I didn't meet it with ridicule, I met it with excitement!

This game has the potential to be this generations MKII. I haven't been this excited in quite a long time. Things evolve. Games evolve. Let's celebrate this time instead of condemning it.

P.S. The first time I touched MKII I pulled off Mileenas Sai Stab fatality completely by accident. Dear God I miss those days!

I must admit the sudden condemnation if the franchise is quite vexing for me.

But it is true, everyone has the right to exercise their discretion. I can only hope most of us grow to appreciate this game, but it is quite foolish of me to insist that everyone should.

All is well, Icebaby. You are awesome. :)

No apologies necessary. People have different opinions, but when it feels like people are too quick to judge, insult, or see everything with a negative light, it gets to be a bit grating.

Those that are in that group of negativity/judgment on this game, I'm sure have been on the opposite side of the fence before as it pertains to something they are passionate about and excited for, filled with positivity, only for others to "rain on the parade" before giving it a chance.

So honestly, I can understand the frustration, and I have often felt it here over all the years. There's always a group that's unhappy and negative, picking things apart and focusing on the negatives rather than all the positives.

I've always been on the "positive side" of things overall, each game. Be it MK vs DC's turnoff of some, MK Rebirth's new take, MK9's guest characters etc., or any other negative reactions that happened during MK:DA-MK:A's lead ups. So yes, it does get tedious and annoying when people overreact so much at first, before everything is shown and explained, yet they end up either loving the product in the end, or they continue to come here regardless.

It is what it is. :P

Icy I wouldn't worry bout what other ppl think everyone's entitled to their opinion and honestly I know it is bad people are already shooting down this game but this happens everytime a new mortal kombat game comes around somebody has to complain because they didn't get something they wanted. The last two games injustice and mk9 were awesome and I can't wait to see more on mkx.

As for the ppl who shoot down the game already it's already a sob story with them the same ol " I had such high hopes for this game omg...I'm not getting the character I wanted or 50 palette swapped ninjas"

I myself embrace the change and can't wait to play this game. Netherrealm studios has done great work and I believe mkx will be another game that'll I'll love and enjoy

I read the whole thing, but since you and I have been relatively agreeable during this game's reveal, I have nothing to say.

We're passionate, man. We'll always clash with each other at some point about something.

Example: I feel like a minority since Outworld Marketplace is my favorite arena so far.

We're all MK fans. That's why we're on an MK forum. Some are more passionate than others regarding the franchise. If they choose to leave because of something they didn't like from a game still in development, that's their problem.

Next time we get Jason or whoever the hell, or something awful happens to shake your faith in this franchise, just do what I did; walk away, and come back a little later. Shit happens and some things you just can't affect.

I'd like to think time and age have given me a calmer, objective perspective on the series. I've got better things to do than hurl bile at decisions I disagree with; I'm too old for that now. Instead I just sit back, tsk tsk at things and people I find objectionable, make light of it and move on. smile

I think we've all been in this situation. I NEVER cause problems on here, but it seems some of the newer users take my statements the wrong way.

One of the reasons I'm really passionate about Mortal Kombat is the fact that my dad actually helped me rediscover the franchise I almost forgot about. I played MK3, but after that point I forgot about MK until I saw the commercial for Deadly Alliance. Shortly after that my dad surprised me with a brand new Xbox and a copy of MK:DA, and a few other games. The reason it means a lot to me is due to the fact that my dad today is not the dad I had back then....if that makes sense. So Mortal Kombat honestly helps me remember the good times with my dad before his health issues occurred.

There's no need for this thread. I haven't even taken those silly arguements seriously. I've watched your youtube videos about the portrayal of females in the franchise (I think) a looong time ago and I realised back then that I am not the only die-hard fan that takes this game so seriously. So I get where you're coming from. I get that you will support the game no matter what. I will too. I get that you might get passionate or a bit of a temper with some of the stupidity in this forum. I do too :P
To be honest the way I looked at those arguements: someone who has been a fan of the game for so long is trying to scold little kids who just started playing yesterday and are already bitching about everything/saying they won't buy the game. lol

I apologize as well. I'd had an unbelievably long day at work, I was very frustrated with the world and in hindsight I should have gone for a walk with the girlfriend instead of booting up the computer. I think we both said things we regret, and while I remain unconvinced by Ferra/Tor, I would like to point out that I am as enthusiastic as anyone about Cassie, Kotal and D'Vorrah. I sincerely didn't mean to come across as impolite or condescending and I can only apologise profusely if that is how you took it. I work as a lawyer and sometimes it can be hard to turn off the 'must speak as though I have proper manners' button inside your head after work.

If we're going full huggy bunny in this thread, I may as well share my earliest MK memory too. I was six years old, Christmas 96. I can still remember pulling MKT from my stocking. My uncle (he's only three years older than me) had convinced my parents to buy it. I can still vividly recall the fire background, the black logo. It must've been caught in a door cos the bottom left corner was a little cracked, but that PS1 box is as clear in my mind as any image I've ever seen. I was a huge fan of Tekken 2 so when I powered up, I remember wondering why it was 2d, why they looked like little people haha. I was so confused! My first match I picked Cyrax and got Fatality'd by Sindel. In my first ever MK match, I had the skin screamed off my character's body. I sat in shock for about 5 minutes, utterly amazed at what I'd just seen. I went back and picked Reptile and slowly but surely learnt the game.

A couple of weeks later, my dad picked up one of those old cheat code books. It had all the specials, all the fatalities, everything.

I kinda forgot about MK after that until I saw DA in a game shop a few years later. I recognised the dragon. I got it for my birthday, along with a cheat sheet with the Krypt and the Fatalities and that was where it really began. I was in love with that game. I still am. The design, the music. It was like a brutal Bruce Lee movie.

At the time I was hanging around with a lot of older kids, one of whom had the first movie. We watched it until the VHS broke. Then, we went outside and played Mortal Kombat ourselves. I was always Reptile. I remember once I climbed a tree and my friend Dean (who was Scorpion) kicked it and yelled "get down here" so I jumped from about ten feet. Another time, I climbed a shed while we were all playing MK and tried a jump kick to my friend Jason (who was Raiden). I broke my ankle, foot and jacked up my knee. To this day, my left knee is dodgy as sin

But from then on, I loved MK. Through D, SM, A, I loved the game wholeheartedly. I got into real martial arts through MK and kickboxing and jiujitsu have changed my life even more than MK.

I love MK. And don't mistake anyone's criticism of the game for a lack of adoration. My only criticism was that Ferra's voice was going to be irritating. If things aren't criticised, they can't improve. Mill was of the opinion that when a critique of something is oppressed, it festers until it becomes more powerful and truthful. Obviously, MK isn't actually a religion, but I think the only times people should dismiss things out of hand is when some jackass claims that everything is crap and they should scrap Cassie cos Sonya is da best evar. That type of opinion has no merit.

Anyway, I just hope myself and Icebaby can let bygones be bygones. That thread will sink to the bottom of the forum soon, and hopefully we can move on. I really am sorry for what went down and I'm glad I have a chance to resolve it in public as opposed to PM. So Icebaby, I'm sorry. Truly. And I won't call you love, sweetheart or babydoll unless you want me to glasses. But seriously, I do apologise and if I could stop myself logging on yesterday, I would. I hope you (Icebaby) sees that I am genuinely sorry and I hope we can move on and be respectful, even if not friendly, towards each other.
This apology also extends to Darkhound. I know we put our differences aside in the thread, but I wanna apologise again. Long day at work, ready to lash out etc. I'm sorry dude, you seem like a really good guy and I'm terribly sorry to hear about your dad. Mine has a lump on his ear he has to get checked out and I am quietly shitting myself.
DISCLAIMER: This apology, and my genuinely generally contrite attitude, has no bearing on microchip. That guys just a fucking dick.

Thanks for the post, Icebaby. I myself started playing in 1994, my senior year in high school. I've been retired as a player since 1999 (sorry, I'm strictly an arcade girl) but still follow the storylines. I've even written several character articles on Wikipedia.

The dedication we all have to our favorite characters is insane. The developers will probably never admit it openly but it must give them headaches about risking drawing the ire of particular character fanbases should they choose to leave someone out of an installment.

Whoever said MK fans are afraid of change, I agree completely. It happens with every cycle of the series. I remember people going apeshit when MK3 came out with the dial-a-combos (I loved those things; sue me). Then MK4 with the 3D pissed off the traditionalists, and it goes on and on. But it's simply human nature: we automatically hate everything different at first, then we get used to it after awhile and wonder why we ever raked it over the coals in the first place.

We're going to automatically form immediate first impressions of things, whether wrong or right, and I do think us forumers need to respect that, like when I said D'vorah was a Q-Bee ripoff after I watched the trailer with its muddy picture at 5:30 one morning, and got hammered for it. Of course I've since changed my tune after getting a better look at the character.

The sights and sounds of X we've experienced so far are not even one week old. It's still completely bare bones so far. Don't jump ship without giving it a chance.

By the way, including a Lab puppy in your post makes it an automatic WIN.
