Great post Icebaby! I agree with you! What makes Mortal Kombat one of the greatest fighting game franchises is it's ability to adapt and add new content and improve itself in the next game if issues surface or fans disapprove (who later "die" to buy the new game). Plus it has one of the greatest mythologies in video game history of all time because of its consistency and its turning points. Some say the storyline went downhill because Tobias left the MK team a while back, but Deadly Alliance and Deception say otherwise.

To be fair I'm an MK fan which is why I joined this forum a few months ago, but to be honest I've NEVER touched an MK game and actually played it let alone owned a video game console. In fact I've never HEARD of Mortal Kombat until I watched the Kratos trailer for MK2011 (Kratos and Darksiders was the hype for me back then) and I was curious about this "Scorpion" character and his famous catchphrase. Then I later went to the MK Wiki and read up on almost everything except some major plot points and that' what prepared me for MK2011 when it came out. And to I'm GLAD I learned about Mortal Kombat and became highly acquainted with it and I understand why fans are in love with the franchise so much.

Huh, so this is where the thread went. Anyways, I appreciate everyone's contributions in here, and I'm glad there's no hard feelings. You guys are really awesome users and it sucks that we some times get a little carried away, even over something too silly. So let's wipe the slate clean and just start over. We have half a year of stuff getting shoved in our faces, let's start getting ready for that.

Just saw this thread Icebaby but basically its sound like you came to peace with whatever was eating at you. Honestly this type of thing happens A LOT on the internet so honestly the best thing to do is to just stay out of threads that push your buttons. People sometimes DELIBERATELY try and start flame wars or troll or whatever trying to get someone to bite and react emotionally.

Case in point, there's a thread maligning the newly revealed fatalities as being "tired and unoriginal" despite everyone at E3 raving about how awesome they are. Part of me initially wanted to blow the thread up but honestly, I'd be the one in the wrong since technically he's just expressing his opinion. So...I just stay out. This board is saturated with threads like that. It's the nature of forums and it's only going to get worse since we have until 2015.

People are always going to disagree with you and it's easy to take the emotion behind that something you're excited about and get it twisted at someone's contrary views.

I instantly fell in love with MK even if I had to use a stool to play it the first time. I saw the pit fatality & unlike the others who got grossed out, it had me exited. & then I saw Mortal Kombat 2 release commercial & I really got into convulsions because it was so awesome to look at back then. I finally got to play it on the Sega (yes I loved the Sega version) everything that was great about MK1 MK2 made it better. My stepfather(R.I.P.) always picked Raiden & Sub-Zero. My mother always picked Kitana & Scorpion. I always picked Liu Kang, Mileena & Reptile. We only had one controller at that time so we had to take turns trying to beat one player. I remember when we got to Kintaro, we all kept getting whooped by him, because of his damn stomp attack.( I can double flawless victory him now with no effort) I also remember getting to Noob Saibot the first time(I stupidly called him shadow back then as well) & I was so shocked. Obviously I lost. Same went with smoke as well. The only secret character I won against was Jade. & the rest was history

I really liked this game series for it being a completely different fighting game from the others. Japanese made fighting game fans do not want to admit it, but this series has came a long ways since 1992. & while I am looking forward to this new installment, I will not be able to buy a ps4 because of said financial deficiencies.

I hadn't caught onto what had happened in certain threads. Look, I've been around these forums for a long time, almost 12 years actually. I think things were a bit more heated back then. I wasn't always nice myself, and I regret the way I put certain things. This MK in particular does remind me a bit of MK: Deadly Alliance in which there is more of a feeling of newness, including the tone.

With certain things in MK: Shaolin Monks through MK 2011, I had grown a bit weary of the direction of certain things in the series. Now that I'm older and have more an interest in the actual gameplay side, I can better look forward to what the series has to offer. There will still be people that have the "nostalgia goggles" on for this series, but NRS has shown, mainly with this upcoming game, that they are able to really change things up. For someone that became a bit cynical towards the series, this is the first game in a long while that really has me hyped in a way that I had not felt since MKDA and MKD.

In a way, it's great to still be so passionate about this series. I suppose that it's this series' potential to become something more or something very different that makes it particularly appealing. Even with things that I have not liked in past games, Ed Boon and co. really do show they work really hard to produce as best of a game as they can. Sure, there are things that they could work on in general, but at least they're open to the feedback.

But yeah, enough of my rambling. Don't worry about it too much, Icebaby.

It's nice of you to say, but I haven't always been the nicest guy. Sometimes, I had let my frustration get the better of me and in some cases even came off as ungrateful. It mainly had to do with the Fight Night stuff, because there were so many questions I wished were asked and had gotten (better) answers for.

I still do have a zest for this series, and I don't deny the hard work put into these games. I simply wanted this series to tap into its massive potential, a potential I don't quite see in some of the other fighting game series. But with MKX, I have to say that I'm seeing much more of that potential being tapped. This isn't to say that MK 2011 didn't do that, because it did a lot of good, even great things despite my criticisms on story and characters.

Should just try and not take it personally. Being here for so long and having seen the communities reaction every time a new game gets release, the reception is always polarizing, and people can be really negative towards the game (especially new users).

Like you said, people have their own concept of what MK is, and they will judge it based on how little info we have and without even playing it.


While Me personally, I'm not fond of some of the new characters, I'm glad to see that NRS is actually trying to do something brand new with this game, rather than taking old ideas and either recycling them or repackaging them.it's really gotten old and how many times they keep bringing back same old fan favorite characters?

I might not have enough interest in the game at the moment, but being a long time fan of the series since the first game, I know it will be a day 1 buy for me regardless.
