Columbus edges Nashville, 58-56.
From arenafootball.com:
NASHVILLE -- The first score of the Arena Football League's 21st season came when QB Clint Stoerner found WR Cornelius Bonner less than two minutes into the ballgame for a 33-yard touchdown pass to give the Kats an early 7-0 lead. It didn't take to long for Destroyers QB Matt Nagy to feel comfortable as the Columbus signal caller.
On the ensuing drive he marched his team down the field and tied the score on a five-yard pass to WR David Saunders. Stoerner finished the game 23 of 39 for 325 yards and five touchdowns. The one interception he threw found the familiar hands of Destroyer's DB Jerald Brown, who also added 7.0 tackles.
With time running out in the first quarter, FB/LB Dan Alexander scored on a six-yard run to give the Kats an early 13-7 lead. Kats K Jason Witczak missed the extra point.
Over a minute into the second quarter Nagy hit Saunders in the endzone again, this time on a four-yard pass. Stoerner and the Kats responded on an 11-yard touchdown pass to Bonner, giving the Kats a 20-14 lead.
But the Destroyers heated up as the second quarter wore on. Nagy connected twice with WR Damien Groce on touchdown passes of 21 and 28-yards respectively. Groce finished with 11 receptions for 121 yards and three touchdowns and Nagy was 23 of 35 for 245 yards and seven touchdowns.
Kats K Jason Witczak kicked a field goal with 0:36 left to give the Kats a 29-28 edge. But Columbus responded with a field goal of their own as time expired. Peter Martinez drilled a 24-yarder to give the Destroyers a 31-29 halftime lead.
The third quarter belonged to the Columbus Destroyers as they held Nashville scoreless and Nagy threw two touchdown passes to WR/LB Darcy Levy of 20 and 28-yards.
The Kats rallied, scoring 27 points in the fourth quarter, and came within 58-56 when Stoerner hit WR Jason Shelley on an 11-yard touchdown pass. Nashville had a chance to recover an onside kick with 18 seconds left, but the ball was ruled to have hit the wall and possession given to Columbus.
Nashville had two wide outs with over 100 yards receiving. Bonner hauled in eight catches for 122 yards and three touchdowns while WR/LB Alonzo Nix had seven catches for 105 yards and one touchdown. Alexander added three rushing scores.

First if its too late to bring this thread back i'll make a new one. Anyway in AFL title game its columbus vs San Jose the adv is most def in San Jose to win 3 in 6 years but columbus has riden the underdog role all playoffs long defeating 2 teams that had a combine 30 wins. So it shall be intresting this sunday.
Secondly the MKO fantasy football is back. M0s3ph won the reg season title but i took home the big trophy with a steller performace by steven jackson in the MKO championchip game. Now i reactivated the leauge to the players whom played last year send me an email or pm me or message here. IF you don't in the next 2 weeks i have to delete you from the leauge. I want the draft to happen mid to late august. If you played last year you can keep one player from last year but you will have to give up the pick in the draft you got that player in last year. For ex i will keep jackson i got him in round 2 or 3 i forgot but i will check so this year when the draft rolls by i will not have that round pick. I want to hear from those people sometime in the next week or 2 because last year 2 people never played so i don't want it to happen this year. Anyone new who wants to play pm me here or email me at chrissmithrules87@yahoo.com with your email so i can sign you up. I want hopefully 10-12 players. This leauge is on espn.com (the best place for fantasy football).
Now the draft came and go discuss your teams favorite picks and how will they help them this season. I will start sometime prob friday start my daily/every 2 day breakdown of each divison and predictions. Alot of moves also. Who made the biggest moves in the off season who made the littlest impact . Traning camp is starting this week and its all the rage.
Also what you think of this new holdout leauge with players left and right threating to hold out. Damn Franchise Tag for starting this crap. 3 stars LJ, Asante Samuel and Lance briggs are all threating to hold out. Because of they are being fransiced or in LJ case just wants a longer deal.
Also feel free to discuss the no tolerence policy is it fair to the players what about the pac man jones, chris henry and Tank Johnson suspensions what do you think about that.
Lastly the micheal vick the dogfighting issue continues. Now new comish Goddell has lay down the law saying micheal vick can't attend training camp. I want to hear everyone thoughts on these things and i will input my own have fun and Its time to get ready for some football.

I can't understand why Michael Vick is the high paid NFL player now, while he can barely peform on the field, as well as not having many special abilities other than having good legs and a strong arm. Even though I really don't like MV, I really think they should give him another chance. The reasons are because I can't see the falcons without him, he is the franchise player of the falcons, and the falcons can't play without him IMO(even though they now have Joe Horn).

I will tell you guys the truth on vick i never liked the guy. Personally i thought he was always a bad guy and on the feild he is a very overrated player and does not derserve to be paid as much as he is. The reason though he was paid because the falcons thought they were getting the futureristic qb and after the trip to the NFC title game they believe that fact. But a few years later a lot of crappy wideouts and an aging defence brought this team down now vick ( who isn't an accurate passer anyway lack of good wideouts hurt the falcons over the years) Only good pass catcher this team has is TE Alge Crumpler. Now vick the past few years with the water bottle the infamous ron mexico flipping the bird and now this the most hanous of the 3 crimes. I think vick does have the right to play it out until he is standing trial. Now do i think he should. I don't think he should play this year for his sake. There is so much pressure from all sides. NFL the falcons orgization, Peta (god i hate these people) and most important the court of public opinon has been so relentless on Vick one of the worst backlashes i have ever seen. Right now VIck needs to think of his teamates and what is best for them and what is best for them now is for him not to be on the field this season. Wait for the court to decide his fate if he is innocent you'll see alot of what you saw in the Duke Lacross case and people realize that they jumped to conclusion to fast public apologies all around. IF hes guilty he'll serve his time and then it gets intresting from there. If hes found gulity and serves the max he may never play in the NFL again. If he serves the min maybe he'll get another shot down the road. Right now vick needs to get a really good defense attourny and concentrate on saving his hide and at the same time relief the pressure off the orgization and take this leave of absance for his own good future. If he has any.

Sorry for double post but i got news Lance briggs and the chicago bears come to a 1 year agreement for 7.2 mil which basically the franchise price. Now the bears assured that they will not franchise Briggs next season so this is a big year for briggs if he preforms well he is looking at a huge deal.
Also something i heard on ESPN i heard that KC Cheifs runningback Priest Holmes Neck is fully healed and will attend Training camp tomorrow for Kansas city now that puts pressure on Larry Johnson to end his holdout. Now i am also hearing if Priest does well in training camp expect trading rumors for johnson to intensify greatly.
And for giants fans all their draft picks have been signed today Steve smith and Aarron Ross agree to contracts. :) Also 5 teams are in camp now Alanta New Orlands Dallas Pittsburgh and Buffalo many to join them the next 2 days.

Its time its time its football time Now the breakdown of the AFC East. Now i will write a description of each team their offseason moves (and some draft picks) Strength and weakness and final thoughts including record. I will write them as i think they will finish in the divison and also add if they make the playoffs.
Now the AFC East gets to play the AFC North and the NFC East two tough divisions along with the 2 teams in the AFC that finished in teh same place as them last season from the other AFC Divisions. For the patroits its the colts and chargers for the jets its the chiefs and titans for buffalo its jaxsonville and denver and for miami its houston and oakland.
New England Patroits- This has probuly been the most activly signing team in the AFC. They signed free agent linebacker Adaius Thomas from balitmore and donte stallworth traded for randy moss and wes welker. They have lost Daniel Graham to free agency and Cut corry dillion. Now Lawerence Maroney looks to take over the reins at runningback. Last year it was more ball control due to lack of wideouts but this year expect a wide spread offence. With New England getting new talent at the wideout core is now very deep expect moss and stallworth to spread the feild and chad jackson and wes welker to run the slot. Maroney should get alot of carries and get a good amount of yards due to this spread offence holes will open up for him. Defence might drop due to age in the dline and if Astante Samuel holds out for 10 games the secondary is weak behind him but they will have finally an attacking offence so its not much pressure on them. Brandon Mayweather will not impact his first year.
Strengths- Wideout core 2nd best qb in the NFL and linebacking core.
I find the patroits linebacking core very good and top 3-5 in the NFL with thomas signing they are very deep to the point Junior Seau is a back up. With vetrans like Bruscchi and Vabel and Colvin and Thomas bring some youth to this core expect them to carry this defence this season. Of course i don't have to go into tom brady and i did the wideout core in the summary.
Weakness- Dline, Secondary if samuel sits out. Tough Schedule
One problem last year in the AFC Title game is the inablity to get pressure on manning. They are going to need pressure either its a blitz from teh lb core is the only way they can do it because this dline is not very good. The secondary out of Asunte Sameul is not very good. Just like everyone in the division this schedule will be tough. Facing the Colts,Chargers,NY Giants, Dallas Philly, Pittsburgh,Cinninati, Baltimore plus the Jets 2x.
Final thought- Look for teams to push the pass on teh patroits but not be able to run that well. Look for the offence to avg maybe 24 to 27 points a game and to have some dominating games. This team is eqipped to make a run at another superbowl but with the AFC so deep this season they will have a very tough road tougher then what most analyst whom already declared them the champions think. They will finish between a 11-5 to 13-3 range i will say 12-4 look for them to lose atleast one to the jets one to an NFC East team one to either the colts or chargers and one to maybe the ravens. Prob another AFC title game lost but can definally win the superbowl.
NY Jets- The surpise of the NFL last year the NY jets look to continue the success under Head coach Eric Mangini or as Mike Greenburg says Eric Mangenius. The big gain for the Jets was trading their 2nd round pick for Thomas Jones was an absolute steal for them and he will upgrade that position with leon washington playing well last year. Also look for rookie Revis to start at corner for the Jets. Not much lost. Not much depth behind their 2 wideouts Laverous Coles and Jericho Coachery. Chris baker is an alright te. young offensive line will continue to grow as they get another season together. Look maybe for the Jets oline to grow into a top 10 line in this leauge. Also look for the offence to be teh same a ball controling offence with chad pennington at the helm might have one or 2 huge runs from thomas jones and have maybe around 1200-1350 rushing yards this season. Weird fact the jets finished in the bottom teir of the leauge in total offence and defence and still made the playoffs if they do that this season they will miss it. Defence will not change much lead by Johnathan Vilma they are an avg defence at best. Secondary with Revis should play better but they will still have problems with their run defence.
Strengths- Runningback core, Special teams, Oline
Eric Mangini can coach he proved it last year taking a very low talented jets team into the playoffs and played the patroits well. I love the duo of Jones and Washington. I think they will be successful this season. Besides kicker mike nugent i think their special teams coverage is very good and Justin miller can electify a game.
Weakness- Run defence depth behind starters, very hard schedule,
They will continue to struggle against the run they done nothing to improve the run defence this off season and making no moves they are very thin at most positions on both sides of the ball. They have a very hard schedule when last year they might have been a product of a very easy schedule.
Final thought- The Jets will prob be alittle better then last year but record will not show it. They will have face tougher teams then last year they will have to depend on the growth of their young players. You can count on the Jets battling keeping things close but if things get out of hand they don't have the power to come back from big deficates. A tougher schedule will mean somewhere between 7-9 and 10-6 i will say 9-7 giving them 4 wins in the division 2 against the north 1 against the NFC east and both vs the titans and cheifs. Expect them to just miss out on the playoffs
Miami- This team is like the defination of a metamorphis. The past few season they done everything to get a franchise qb to replace marino its not funny. From Leo clemon to sage roashenfels (can't spell sorry) to dantue culpepper and Joey Harrington (who acually played alright last season) To now Trent Green. Now i love green he is a great player even manning hasn't thrown for 4000 yards more times then trent green with even less talent in KC. But he is old and now comming off a very bad concussion filled season. I think he will fare well better then the previous guys. Ronnie brown looks to bounce back from an injury filled season last year and i think he will provide the spark for this offence. They got new coach cam cameron from the SD Chargers tree. Offfensively chris chambers should play alot better then his subpar last season but no other good wideouts besides chambers they got a solid marty booker nothing from there. Expect ginn to only make an impact in the return game. Again the running game will depend on Ronnie brown who was injured last year and still played well. This offence is makeshift and i don't know what direction they will take it this season. Either way expect brown to have 1300-1500 yards and green to have an avgerage seaon middle lower tier offence. They got the defensive player of the year in Jason Taylor and Zack Thomas and they added Joey porter through free agency. The LB core will be very good this season for a miami defence who was a top 10 core in both pass and rushing defence. 4th in total defence. Expect it to drop off alittle but still remaining a top 10 defence.
Strengths- Overall defence
As i said this unit was a top 5 in total defence and they kept the same peices plus added porter with Thomas and Taylor don't expect teams to get much time to throw the ball against a so so secondary this defence will live and die by the play of the linebackers and i expect them to play well.
Weakness- Depth on offence, Weak oline
This offence will decide if this team is a playoff team or just a low team. If players start going down so will the dolphins they have no back to replace or help out ronnie brown and they don't have depth in teh skill positions they got rid of their best te in Randy Mcmicheal now chambers must step up or this passing game will go no where fast. Offensive line is very bad teams will pressure them espically up the middle and green who lived on one of the best lines in the NFL over the past decade in KC will see alot less time to throw the football.
Final thoughts- They are lucky they got the weakest schedule of the 4 teams in the AFC east playing Houston and Oakland both should be wins. THis defence will dominate lesser offensive teams bad news. Offense must step up if they want to compete for playoff contention. Defence will keep them in games Expect the dolphins to be in the 6-10 to 9-7 range i think they will go 7-9. 3-3 in division both games vs houston and oakland 1 vs the NFC East and 1 vs the AFC North. They might pull off an upset or 2 but i can't see this team in the playoffs at the end of the year.
Buffalo- This team continues to get younger and younger losing both of leaders at linebacker in London Fletcher to Washington via Free Agency and Takio Spikes in a trade to Philly. adding Poz From Penn State. They will depend on both Poz and rookie Marshawn Lynch to help this team. Also losing star corner back Nate Clements to free agency to SF will hurt their defence which was really their only bright spot.
Strengths- Umm very hard to find but i will say their Secondary even without Clements will be a bright spot Whitener played well last year i think There secondary will be the only unit that will shine this year.
Weakness- Umm Whole offence
I will predict their offence will be the 2nd worst in the NFL this year behind Oakland I didn't like LYnch comming out of college and i don't think he'll do well in the NFL he was a product of a weak RB class. JP Losmon has no help besides Lee Evans. This offence will struggle mightly even if the defence plays well.
Final thoughts- Very tough schedule playing both denver and Jax who will be better this year plus the NFC East and AFC North they might win one game in the division and might win one game vs the AFC north might pull off one or 2 upsets somewhere but hopes should not be high for the bills. Expect between 2-14 record and a 4-12 record and a top 5 pick in next years draft.
I know i will piss people off with this so let the debating begin in the next day or 2 i'll do the AFC south.
I forgot to mention people who want to join the MKO fantasy leauge email me chrissmithrules87@yahoo.com and i can sign you up also owners from last year send me an email confirming your going to play this year also M0S3pH are we doing the pickem game like we did last year.

Before i start my breakdown of the AFC South a few things i want to mention
How i feel about strahans retirement possbility is alittle unblanance just like with tiki if he has no passion for the game then thats his choice if this though all it is to get more money then respect is lost for strahan.
Simeon Rice was cut from tampa a few teams are intrested detroit and NY are 2 possiblies in fact rice has a visit in ny tomorrow.
Congrads to San Jose Sabercats for winning their 3rd arenabowl in 6 wins in a dominating performance over Columbus.
Anyways time for the AFC South
The defending champion colts look to defend their title but has to deal with a division that is filled with young up and comming talent. The AFC South plays vs the AFC WEST and the NFC South plus their division 2x then the last too games are faced the teams in the AFC EAST and North that finished in the same place as they did last year. For the colts its baltimore and new england. Tenn vs Cinn and the Jets. Jax vs Bills and Pittsburgh and Houston vs Miami and Clevland.
Indy- The defending champs look to defend the title. Now they got Anthony Gonzolas from Ohio state to look to replace Brandon Stokely. Now they lost 2 key players on defence and one on offence. They lost Cato June to Tampa and lost Nick Harper to tenn and lost Dominic Rhodes to Oakland ( though he is suspended 4 games for a DUI Charge. Overall the offence should be dominating as usual and the best offence in the NFL. The only real question mark on offence is if Joseph Addai can carry the full load.
On defence on the other hand is a big gap to filled between 2 key players. Now we all know they run the tampa cover 2 defence where they basically do a great job from giving up the big passing play. There pass defence is pretty good and should remain good even the lost of nick harper.
Strengths- Passing game, Oline, Pass Defence
All self expantory but the pass defence is just the kind of defence that the colts run in that cover 2 scheme.
Weakness- Run Defence they had one of the worst in leauge history as teams litterly ran all over them atleast until the playoffs where they held all teams under 100 yards rushing. Now will we see the worst rush def in history or the improvemtn like in the playoffs. I think the worst will come out of the team. I just dont' see them keeping that intensity all season long. I ain't saying they will be the worst run defence but they will be a bottom 10 5 team in terms of run defence.
Final thought- This team is extemely talented on the offensive side of the ball and should be involved in alot of high scoring games. Schedule looks alittle favorable this season should win 4 or 5 vs the division atleast 3 vs the AFC west might sweep the south but for the sake i'll give them 3 wins and should beat atleast 1 between NE and Baltimore should win beween 11 and 14 games i will say 12-4 a division title and possiblty a first round bye. This team is good enough to repeat (as long as they dont' run into a team that dominates the run ala SD or NO). I don't think they will.
Jaxsonville Jaguars- This team dissapointed last year with the year before losing to the pats in the wildcard round had high hopes for a playoff run. Unfourtunly and injury to byron leftwhich and a recieving core that despiratly under achieved the jags feel short of the playoffs at 8-8. They now look to get back into playoff contention. Not all was bad in Jaxsonville as the emergence of Moriece Jones Drew Sparked a running game that became one of the best in the NFL Last year. The nice combintion of Jones-Drew and Fred Taylor gave them the best combo back in the AFC. They got a solid secondary with RAshid Mathis a top 10 CB in the leauge and rookie Reggie Nelson out of Flordia.
Strengths- Running back core, Run defence
This team has the amazing balance of being top 5 in run defence lead by the 2 d tackles henderson and stroud its nearly impossible to run up the middle against these 2 beast. There ends are also good at stoping the runs. Jones Drew and Taylor along with a solid offensive line create one of the best rushing attacks with over 2000 rushing yards between the 2.
Weakness- Pass offence, lack of #1 qb, LB core
The passing offence this team has is terrible They have no #1 wideout they have a avg qb and no tight end. Now this is a make and break year for byron Leftwhich. If he gets injured or if he doesn't play well jaxsonville will move on and prob draft a qb in next years draft. The wideout core is severly bad. The LB core is p rob the one weakness one defence as the Jags had the 10th best pass defence and 4 best run defence last year. Its not deep and not a top quality starter but some avg starters.
Final thoughts the Jags will struggle with teams that can out score them the defence will keep some games close but without a good passing offence they will struggle to come back in games if they are down by 2 tds or more. The rushing attack again will be outstanding and they will try to control the clock with their rushing offence and defence. I think the jags will go 3-3 in their division losing 2x to houston and once to Indy go 2-2 vs the NFC South losing to Car and NO and will go 2-2 vs the AFC West and will spilt between Bills and Pittsburgh. They will go 8-8 again and miss the playoffs.
Again i have to go to work early again so hopefully i won't get home at 10 tonight and i'll do the last 2

OK, now it is time to sign up for the Pick 'Em game. There are a few changes from last year:
- Simply picking a winner is too easy. This year, you have to pick against the spread. This will keep the standings closer (theoretically) and make the game more unpredictable. This is the way I intended last year's game.
- If there is a tie atop the weekly standings, the following week's prize (DPs, of course) will increase. For example, if there are 3 straight ties, the next week's winner will get 4 DPs.
- QOTW will NOT be included in determining the weekly winner, though it will still count toward the overall standings.
Simply post saying that you want to play, and I'll add you to the list. I'll take the previous posters as entered already.
