I have a Mayhem shirt, they rule. Even more so for the story behind the band than their music
A good symphonic/prog blackish band is Embraced from Sweden. They have Sven from Soilwork on keyboard, the difference is amazing (really good pianist when he isn't writing for Soilwork, lol). It's hard to put this band under a genre, hence why I said "blackish" and not black metal.
Quo Vadis are a pretty cool technical death metal band from Canada, they have an instrumental called "The Day The Universe Changed" which is pretty cool. Fun to play on bass, not overly hard, but fun regardless.

Mayhem is nothing without dead. Immortal is a very good choice along w/ Emperor. Here is some of the bands I would look into: Absurd(new stuff is like Irish BM), Abyssos, Dark Throne, Dark Funeral, Leviathan, Xasthur, Genocide Kommando, Deicide, Vital Remains, Cattle Decapitation, Black Dahlia Murder (pretty good), Old Dimmu Borgir, Dissection, Himinbjorg, Merrimack, Cirith Gorgor, Gorgoroth, Saphfier, Mortiis(Stuck and Cold in Marshland is the best), Shining, Taake, Graveland, Sargeist, Satyricon,Nachtmystium, Kovenant, Exhumed, Nile, Nocturnus, Abigor, Burzum, Six Feet Under, Cannibal Corpse..... That's all I can think of for now.
A couple of good Labels to look under are: Moribund Cult, and Regimental Records

The best black metal band ever, and always will be Linkin Park. With Radiohead coming in a close second.

Um, I belive it's Puddle of MUDD. God damn, how tr00 are you? Some kvlt metal fan you are.
I only really listen to a little bit of black metal. I like Dimmu Borgir and a few Cradle of Filth songs. I also have Kovenant's "Times before the light" "Animatronic" and "Seti". I know, the last two albums aren't exactly kvlt, but hey I like em.

OMG....
you want black metal, you got it:
Cradle of filth
Dimmu borgir
Children OF Bodom
Death (more or so black...)
God Dethroned
Quo Vadis (Glad to see you know that DB).
In Flames
Those are pretty much the only ones I listen to actively... As I am a power metal fan at heart.

Exactly.
You guys don't know the first hand of Black/Death metal. :\
I mean, what the fuck, Puddle of Mudd? Linking Park?
What the hell are you talking about?
Don't get me wrong, Puddle of Mudd is my favourite band, but they're not to be gatagorized as Black/Death Metal. :\
And, to get into this thread, I listen to Cradle of Filth, and I used (when I was more depressed) to Canibal Corpse, Dimmu Borgir and Children of Bodom.
I actually still have a Cradle of Filth shirt, which I wear in the summers (well, when it's warm anyway, because Summers in the Netherlands mostly means winter to most of you guys).

I never heard of vampiric goth metal.
All i heard of are power metal, industrail metal, heavey metal, death metal and black metal.
Why is everyone posting cannibal corpse as bm? It's death metal.

I was posting because the man wanted suggestions. I also, said you can talk about death metal. They are closely related, but totally different. They're is a lot of sub genres of metal with only one or two bands. Look them up there is some good underground stuff.
