Poison Kiss has been confirmed to be a transsexual - born a man, but got the necessary operations to become a woman. Capcom themself confirmed this.

As a woman, she sure is sexy and beautiful. I have always liked Poison and I am happy to finally be able to play as her in a game. There once was a Final Fight fighting game where she was available, but I have never tried it. However, I am definately going to get this game. It looks awesome!

But now I have to rethink what my tag team will be. I had my eyes on Cammy and Nina, but if Poison is cool, I might have to replace either Cammy or Nina in my tag team... This will be a tough decision indeed.

Kinda wish the game had a new graphics engine. Im sick of the SF4 look, even tho I liked it back then. New trailer looked pretty bad, everything has a yellow tint to it.

I seen that statement from Capcom, and let me assure you as a Poison fan from the original Final Fight she is a Female. She is one of few fictional characters I think are super Hot and her true gender (which is born a female) will not be denied!

She was originally going to be all female, but Capcom USA didn't think it was proper to hit a woman, so they made her transsexual, meaning she was born as a male. This was later changed to her OFFICIAL background.

So sorry, but she was a he once. And why is that such a bad thing? Poison Kiss is badass, no matter what her background is! And I live that she has that little whip with her in her fighting style in SFxT. Her gameplay looks really cool.

She is a Female and always has been. That is all.

Nope using it exactly as intended, Capcom only made that statement so there would not be any legal issues, Poison was a tough Female and will always be a tough female, you believing that statement just like they said is childish believing whatever you hear for the truth.

Poison debuted in Capcom's classic Final Fight. Her original creator and character designer created her, and her partner Roxy, as 100% female.

When porting to the SNES in America, Nintendo of America had retarded rules concerning censorship and appropriate content (Final Fantasy couldn't have a spell called "Holy" because it implied a religious reference, for example...) and one of their rules was "you can't beat up women." They decided to say they were transvestites instead to get around the censors, but, not surprisingly, that seemed to be more of an issue with hyper-conservative NoA than hitting women. So Roxy and Poison were changed for the American release to be ugly men, Sid and Billy.



When it came time for Final Fight 2, Nintendo of America had relaxed on their rules a bit (after Sega's version of Mortal Kombat kicked the crap out of theirs) and Final Fight 2 allowed Roxy and Poison to appear in the game as female. Unfortunately, that created a conflict between the two games, since the two were supposed to be the same.



In "All About Capcom Head to Head Fighting Games", they decided to fix this by using their original proposal and retconning them both to be "newhalfs" (technically 100% women... with male genitalia). Nintendo of America took up the policy that Roxy and Poison were both post-op transexuals (thus making them born men, or transgendered, and then made fully female) while quirky Japan sort of liked the idea that Poison kept her male parts tucked in her short shorts (how? Those things are TINY!).

Street Fighter producer, Yoshinora Ono, tried to set the record straight, saying that in America, she's a post-op transexual, but in Japan, she remains a hermaphrodite. In other parts of the world, however, she remains a female as in the original game (the Koreas, China, the Middle East, some European countries).



Further complicating her gender issues is that former Final Fight creator Akira Nishitani stated she was original supposed to be female, and she is female to him, but he conceded she could be male, concluding "it's up to the player to believe what she is." In "Capcom Classics Collection", it further muddied the waters by saying she was a crossdresser, but considering her attire consists of both male and female clothing that made it hard to determine which parts of her sexuality were crossing over or not. It also retconned that Roxy was born 100% female but didn't state this for Poison, who they remained ambiguous about.



In 2008, Poison appeared as part of the "Capcom Girls Collection" by Mitsumasa Yoshizawa, who was told she was definitely female by the representatives of Capcom, and then in 2011 as part of the "Capcom Girls Calendar". In 2010, Poison-themed pink hairspray was sent out as a press kit with the phrase "For men, women, and everything in between."



Capcom, as a whole, refuses to confirm Poison's gender, one way or the other, but knows and acknowledges the gender confusion. They've never refuted or substantiated claims that she's female, male, or in-between. While some at Capcom (Yoshinora Ono, in particular) enjoy her transsexual nature as something that gives her interest and depth and state it as fact, others involved in her creation both agree and disagree (her designer, Akira Yasuda, particularly disagrees and blames Nintendo of America for the change).

REGARDLESS, Poison is considered by many to be one of the most interesting and popular characters in the Street Fighter/Final Fight universe, in spite of or partially because of her unique gender issues. Many have no qualms about saying she remains one of the most beautiful women in any video game, while the LGBT organizations praise her as one of the few supposed transexuals to crossover (and crossdress *ba dum tish*) into the mainstream and gain a large following amongst even casual fans. She is routinely voted into the top 25 Capcom girls of all time, and the top 50-100 hottest women lists on game websites.

And, then of course, many just aren't aware of any gender issues with her at all and blissfully see her as "that hot chick with the pink hair" without knowing the history. Or caring.



All that sexual baggage out of the way, Poison has always been an interesting character, from both a development point (they've tried to get her into a fighting game as far back as Street Fighter II) and in the games she's been in (probably more story as a side-character than most main fighters in the roster).

So, I'm pleased to see Poison get a proper fighting game debut, and I hope to see more of her in future fighting games as well.

@Garlador Ahhhh, thank you Gar for that nice little history lesson. I've seen her in some video games, but I would have never guessed she had such crazy history behind her/him/them.

I always thought of her as (like you said) the hot girl with the pink hair. xD

I never started the argument it was not my intention to argue but Jaded-Raven showed anger first when He/She? did not like someone else's opinion on a character they like, so I indulged in a friendly argument which He/She took a bit too seriously, the "I win " part is nothing more than a joke. However the name calling I did not do Jaded-Raven started that with "ignorant child" that was unnecessary, and the "fuck themselves" part was also no more than a harmless joke and no harm was meant by it. I thought this was a site where opinions could be expressed but I guess not, Jaded-Raven if you were offended by my statements on a character we mutually like, I apologize, no harm was meant.
