So, World of Warcraft... Is it worth going back to?

I've played TERA... I've played Guild Wars 2... I've played Rift... I've played Aion... I've played Warhammer Online... I think I have tried every Free-to-Play MMO out there. Those in the fantasy genre, at least, since that is what my main interest in MMO's is. But I haven't found an MMO that sucked me in like World of Warcraft did, and so I kinda miss playing WoW. I haven't played it for almost two years now. I am a roleplayer and the RP in WoW was slowly vanishing back then which was one of the main reasons I stopped playing. It just got boring.

That means I haven't played Mist of Pandaria. That means I haven't tried the Monk class or the new gameplay system they implemented. I haven't tried the Pokemo-... I mean, the Pet Battles. So yeah, there's a lot of new content I haven't tried out. The thing is, I gave away my account when I stopped playing, so if I was to return to WoW, I would have to create a new account and buy the game and all the expansions over again which would be costly, though I believe I've heard something about the vanilla game and all expansions up to Cataclysm can be bought with a hefty discount. Not sure about that though.

However... Is it worth it? Is it worth the money to go back to play WoW? Is it worth the content? And the most important question, to me at least... Is there still even RP on WoW? Since I don't have much contact with my old RP buddies from when I played WoW, I have no idea if they still play or have moved on. Maybe I am just being nostalgic, remembering the fun days (and nights) of RP, helping eachother to level up and get the gear we wanted, all that stuff which I don't really have with the communities of the newer MMO's. It's not that the other games aren't good though. I still play TERA and GW2 from time to time, but as said, I haven't really gotten into the RP communities of those games and I don't feel the same connection to those games as I did with WoW...

So yeah, feel free to comment and help me put some perspective on these thoughts of mine, if you wish. I haven't decided on anything at all, other than should I ever return to WoW, I would definately make a Blood Elf Monk. ^^

i had played WoW since before the BC update and stopped before said update. just played on my old account a few months ago before giving my account to my nephew and i would honestly rather play Guild Wars without any expansions compared to what WoW has become.

IMO, WoW is on the level of SW: Galaxies now. started out amazing and then was butchered because of the casual kiddies that need everything to be simple.

There is no definite answer. I regularly switch off for weeks when I am enervated or bored by the game.

Try it, or try it on a private server if there is any running MoP. Look around, explore, and if it is fun, stick around. If it gets boring, give it a rest. If it holds your curiosity again, go back to it.

I play on a private server, we are only on WoTL, with Cata nowhere near in sight. I am entertained yet.

I might suspend my account. Mists of Pandaria I thought was going to be a better expansion since I hated the last two. Unfortunately, we get nothing but massive mob groups respawning within two minutes making your quests hard to complete, and for some reason people are just more aggressive when it comes to you being out in the open and them getting a chance to attack me.

Maybe it's just the server I'm on and no one else has this problem... Fucking ally.

The quests are boring, I've been told that the instances are not even that fun to play, the battle system isn't that great either, at least in my opinion, it's just something to do when you're not in the mood in questing.

But, I don't know, it's really not my place to tell you if you should go back to the game or not mainly because everyone experiences the game a lot differently than others so I really can't fully say "yes" or "no" to you.

I really have no say whether you should go for it or not, but I sure as heck wouldn't ever since I saw something like this

Dunno when you left, if it was pre-Cata you might want to try the game for free before putting some money down on it. At the moment you can play up to lvl 20 for free. No time limit. This includes BC and Wrath races/classes. Not sure if it includes Pandas or monks, but if nothing else you can see some of the changes in the formerly known as 'Vanilla' areas.

As for Role-playing, last I looked it was pretty slow but I'm a rookie role-player so it might just be the server/area I'm in. There are groups trying to pick it up some by using the cross realm zone thing. For example, I just read on Wow Insider of a massive Horde side role playing event.

I tried Guild Wars 2...boring. Ended up giving up my GW2 acct to a relative. Tried DCU, its collecting dust. Even got the Secret World...nice beginning but after that ... heh. So far, WoW is the only MMO to keep my attention long enough for me to actually see end game stuff....Just try to ignore the Pandas....
