With both games coming out so close to each other I'm sure a lot of gamers who are tight for cash are having trouble deciding which game to get. So I figured I'd post this question:

"If you could only buy one of these fighting games which game are you going to get, Soul Calibur 5 or Street Fighter x Tekken?"

I personally want to lean towards Street Fighter x Tekken, but knowing how Capcom has screwed gamers over on content on their past few fighting games and releasing Ultimate editions 6 months later, I'm a little hesitant to actually buy it.

Neither. I'd wait for the ultra extra stupendous edition of SFXT and SCV's new character designs have somehow turned me off of the game. Maybe the gameplay will make me take a serious look at it. Man....those new characters just look like lame created characters made by some cliche happy Otaku.

Neither to be honest. Any hype I had for SC5 was lost due to them getting rid of so many characters, excessive mirror characters, there's just really nothing about this game that has me going. "let's get it!"

SFX Tekken stopped liking crossovers a while ago, not to mention Capcom's penchant for screwing over people who buy the game early with ridiculous versions. I also really do not like the Street Fighter style of gameplay, maybe if it had Tekken's style I might be more keen on it.

I probably won't get any of these two games, but I'd choose Street Fighter X Tekken over Soul Calibur V.

I'm just massively disappointed with the roster and overall character management in Soul Calibur V. Nothing about this game excites me. Shame, I really enjoyed SC3.

As for SFxT, I see it as yet another derivative of SFIV and I'm just tired of those by now. It will be interesting to see SF & Tekken characters take on each other though, I won't lie about that. I'll probably check some YT recorded gameplay footage just for that reason.

That's part of the reason for me too. There are a lot of characters that are returning, and the new ones seem to be related to the characters they are replacing, still, some of the early previews have mentioned the inclusion of "Ultra" style moves similar to the Marvel vs Capcom series which doesn't interest me one bit. I can understand going for a fast paced gameplay, I think ultra moves is the wrong direction for the series though.

Pretty much the only two reason I'm even considering getting Street Fighter x Tekken on day 1 is partly due to the Special Edition pre-order bonus of 45 in game gems, which modifies gameplay. I honestly don't think Capcom will include this in a Super/Ultimate edition of the game, plus I'm really glad they added Juri to the roster, my favorite SF character.

Nice to hear, Kabal, but what if you NEED to buy a new edition because the update isn't made downloadable?

And I do wanna get a taste of KOFXIII!

That's kind of the dilemma I'm facing. Do I buy in early on SFxT to get instant access to gameplay modifiers that will probably hard to unlock or wait so I don't get burned on added content 6 months later in case I have to buy a whole new copy of the disk? I'll be the first to admit I was extremely pissed with the BS of Street fighter 4 & Super Street Fighter 4, but I'm thinking Capcom at least learned their lesson with forcing gamers to buy a whole new copy of the game just for DLC.

I haven't played marvel vs capcom 3, but wasn't the Ultimate Update released as DLC in addition to a new disk, just like the Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition update?

Street Fighter X Tekken hands down. I have been excited for this game since it was announced at comic con. I don't care if they re-release it or not. It is a first day buy for me.

SCV disappoints me on many levels. No Kilik. Almost all of the original characters are gone. They left behind generic characters with their old fighting styles. So stupid...

I'm leaning more on SFXT, but I just know there is gonna be another version of the game to come out within a few months after it's vanilla release.

But yeah, more so for SFXT.

I hate to say this, but Street Fighter X Tekken

SCV...on the other hand looks like shit.

Well I would probably go for SC:V. I never really was one for street fighter. I like tekken, but not in street fighter gameplay. So I would lean more towards SC. Besides, it has Ezio Auditore de Firenze! C'mon!

sad. That's disappoint to know, I thought other wise. It just makes a lot of gamers question whether to even buy the game on launch day because of this BS.

While he fits into the the SC universe out of all the guest characters SC has used, I think they are grabbing at thin air with him in it. For some reason it's not enough to get me buy SC5. Plus I'm kind of missing Talim as well.

Dunno.

On the Street Fighter X Tekken side, you have the gem system and some interesting new characters.

But its clearly Street Fighter 4 with tagging and weird Tekken flavoured characters

On the Soul Calibur V side, you seem to have an improved create mode, story mode, critical edge moves and other things

But, Jesus Christ that roster is lacking. I mean if it had at least Talim and Zas, It would be ok. But really another sword and shield character? One can hope for DLC though. Or maybe the missing characters are in the CAS mode and they just couldn't be fucked with designing a new Zas/Talim/Yun/Sets/Rock.

Personally, because I am a big fat Soul Calibur whore, I'm looking forward to SCV more.

Plus I've been bitten too many times with Capcom and their DLC BS to feel comfortable with buy SFXT outright.

Truthfully. It you cant decide, wait a while see what happens to the price or DLC BS or whatever. They, at the very least, seem competently made.

I'm going with SCV because of the really detailed create a character mode, the devil jin style that is available to use in cas, the legendary souls mode which is a "boss rush mode" with an incredibly difficult AI, and a battle theater.
have read though on 8wayrun that kilik is one of the bosses in legendary soul mode and is incredibly difficult to beat using his staff style, but when he is played normally he is just like edgemaster

Neither. Soul Calibur looks boring as hell, and I don't like diagonal motion so no SFxT for me.

Soulcalibur V.

I love the art style, gameplay, graphics, roster and the 3 MIMIC CHARACTERS.

Character Creation is looking great as well.

(As is no Talim, Zasalamel, Setsuka, Rock, Yun-Seong, Seong Mi-na...)

If i were to choose, i would choose SFxT. But that has a giant chance of not happening, due to the fact that Eddy Gordo and Akuma havent been announced.... but i am fucking happy Guile and Cammy made it :D

Also Steve Fox and Hworang..... needs more Akuma and Eddy :/

Maybe some of you people should check the facts before posting. SFxTekken is getting DLContent only, no new discs or anything. This is what Ono has confirmed.

I feel there might be an orversaturation of fighters right now. I don't have much interest in either of these and I love street fighter. Might the gem system and the eyesore visuals....

While that is some relief to hear, similar things where said about Street Fighter 4, before the update became too big to be done via DLC. I'm sure Capcon had the same intentions with Marvel vs Capcom 3 as well. It just makes gamers second guess Capcom.

This year will be good for fighting games. While MK is taking a break, we will see: Soul Calibur 5, Street Fighter x Tekken, Dead or Alive 5 and Tekken Tag 2 by years end.
