It's not at all like MK9. It's much easier to learn a character in MK9... In fact, MK9 is just an easier game to learn altogether. I find it more fun to actually fight in SCV than in MK9. There is more depth in the combat system itself and each character is more distinct.

Interesting. Thank you.
But having fighting experience does alliviate the difficulty right? It kind of sounds like something extremely alien!
If they still have similarities regarding general fighting mechanics, I can expect to see block strings, frame traps, etc.?

Is it like MK9?
Is it fast/slow paced?
How badly can you be punished?

1. It's definitely not like MK9.
2. SCV is one of the faster paced games in the series. Different characters (like any fighting game) accommodate different playstyles.
3. You can be punished pretty significantly if the opponent knows how to chain stuns, wall juggle, tech trap, etc. Also, there's ring-outs as it's a 3D fighter.
I can go into more detail if you have further questions.

Absolutely. Safe block strings, frame advantage, string combos, throws, command throws, meter management, EX moves (Brave Edge), SUPER moves (Critical Edge) Parries (Guard Impact)...all of these correlate. There aren't really "special move" cancels although several characters have different "stance forms" that are character unique and can be transitioned into via string combos. There are also unblockable "flame" attacks as well as Guard Break status attacks that can guard crush.

Anyone with/getting SCV planning to make some MK characters?
If you are, it'd be pretty cool to see them over in this thread!

Yeah, I would definately want to see you guys make some awesome MK characters in the Character Creation mode and post them either here or in my thread in the Fan Submission section. ^^

Ivy was so DIGSUSTINGLY nerfed... she is useless!!! >:[ and the story mode is ok, but it does NOT validate the absence of endings. I mean, most of the characters remain unincorporated to the story. Why is Kilik the way he is? Why is Mitsurugi still a player in all this? And what happened to Amy? Why is Raphael alone? I mean... this game lacks a LOT on the story department... besically all we get in story mode is the lame goldilock twins. Considering the SC was always very character-intensive, this is a big let down. Also the offline gameplay is very limited, little options other than slight variations of the arcade. Nothing compared to SC3. I mean... why do game developers go BACKWARDS!?!?
I do hate how they got rid of some of the complexity with Ivy being the biggest example. Despite not showing up until late in SCIV's life span, from what I understand Ivy was the best character in that game (or that's what the results showed at least). She had a solution to everything, the only reason it took a while for her to become the best was because she was just a lot of information to take in for one character. Arguably, she was too good but not overpowered. Nothing she did was game breaking, but there was never a situation that Ivy couldn't take advantage of. I guess to the developers, wanting to attract new players (this is the main reason game developers go backwards if you ask me) saw a big target on Ivy's head. She was the best fighter but too complex for new players, and they wanted the game to be accessible... So they "simplified" her... With the nerf-hammer. It's kind of a shame, playing her she feels like Ivy Lite. On the other hand, Setsuka's style has never been better, they took an already top tier style and made it stronger AND seemingly more straightforward to use. Kind of silly that Ivy was nerfed but some of her biggest competition for top tier (but not broken like Hilde, or if you ask certain people, Amy) was improved. But hey, she's got a better costume this time and Setsuka's new costume (gender) is just boring.
On the third hand, I think Viola has the best fighting style they've ever come up with. She's a little on the difficult side, and because of that possibly on the weak side, but she is absolutely brilliant. The things you can do with that orb... So much fun.
