I understand your point of view. But for me, I loved how "normal" she was. I didn't see that as bland because I thought she was a stellar character. And I loved kicking freak's asses with a 14 year old Filipino girl.
I'm all for variety.

Three mimic characters in one game? That's two too much. And to turn Kilik into one of them is just bad style. I don't know what Namco was thinking...

No Talim, Zasalamel, Yun Seong, Seong Mina, or Kilik with his own style for all these mimic characters? Hella dumb. One mimic character per game is enough.
Even if you don't like these characters, you're onjectively missing out on unique gameplay, Namco doesn't always herp, but when they herp they derp.

I can see kilik becoming the next mimic master since since his teacher is edgemaster. After the time leap edgemaster would be considered unusually old and close to death if they were going by real world. unless he is immortal or is really healthy.

Edge Master's bio reveals him to be Eternal, and IIRC he had some sort of rivalry with Algol..

The bottom select is
α Patroklos (アルファ・パトロクロス, Arufa Patorokurosu), a supreme form of the young protagonist. He wields Soul Calibur. He uses a style very similar to that of Soul series veteran Setsuka.
Elysium, an angelic woman who bears a strong resemblance to Sophitia. She fights using any of the female styles.
Algol (アルゴル Arugoru), the Ancient Hero King. He was forced to destroy his own son, Arcturus, because he was possessed by the demonic sword, Soul Edge, an event which caused him to create the holy sword Soul Calibur from a shard of Soul Edge. He uses miniaturized versions of Soul Calibur and Soul Edge which appear in battle in place of his hands, as well as a cannon that shoots violet and black energy spheres of varying sizes.
Edge Master (エッジマスター Ejjimasutaa), an old man with an mysterious past. He has mastered all the weapons in the world and he rescued and trained Maxi. He fights using the styles of all the other characters in the game.
Kilik (キリク, Kiriku), former student of Edge Master. He fights using any of the male styles.
Pyrrha Ω, a possessed variation of the deuteragonist. She wields Soul Edge. She uses a style very similar to that of Soul series veteran Sophitia.
Lets discuss
"Alpha" Patroklos - is a HUGE waste of space and he has a custom Setsuka style? Why?
He isn't Setsuka, let alone a shinobi. He has no business having that style.
I rather them add Setsuka instead and built up her story. I mean they can write it off that she fought Mitsurugai and he spare her so she could either
A. Become stronger for a rematch.
or...
B. Give up the quest to take on a Adapt
Elysium - In my opinion, she very much Sophitia. And i like the mask and the mystery around her character. My only complain is... that she is a novice edge master that uses all weapons used by the female cast.
Algol - is pretty much Algol.. most likely with some tweeks... im not bothered that he is back... my main complaint is he's missing his armor.
Edge Master - Kinda happy that he came back for another run... I just wished that he was the ONLY weapon switcher in the game.
Kilik - I was happy about his return and was willing to forgive the dorky armor since there is customization in the game. But when i found out that he was novice version of Edge Master that used all weapons used by the male characters. I was like... WTF? Kilik has always been my 3rd favorite character and my favorite staff user
I know in his bio it states that he has trained with Edge Master before. But i was under the impression that it was to help Kilik perfect his Staff techique.
Its like they just got Lazy in the end of production.
Why did they replaced him with Justin Bieber "Xiba" if he didn't get to settle with Xianghua. Thats messed up...
Phyrra Omega - Another waste of space character.. but at least she had a modified version of her style. As oppossed to ripping off another character like Alpha Patroklos. These two should have been in the BONUS select screen and save thoughs spots for later DLC.. or brought back Setsuka and Zasalamel
Anyway... whats your opinion on this? Since the admit didn't like my solo post.. reposting here

From what i read on 8wayrun was they intended to give elysium her own style but due to time constraints, they made her a mimic character. i found out also that the middle tablet in the select screen is a timer and that on online has blind selection after watching a stream from the project soul team.
As for alpha Patroklos having Setsuka's style, it doesn't really bother me. I always wanted to make a character using her style without having the umbrella always being there. Alot of people who used setsuka don't mind she is gone, they are just happy her style is in from what I've read. the developers dont seem to talk about her when asked. they just say she isn't in the game.

I didn't care if I made a male Setsuka user who had an umbrella, so he was a tiny bit on the fem side, it made him special hehehehe....
I am so freakin' glad the style is back because it's probably my favorite fighting style from any fighting game, but Setsuka would have been the better choice regardless of her age, story, etc... I liked how it looked fighting with her and her umbrella, but now the style looks like some ridiculous sci-fi thing.....

Saw a bit of alpha Pat. Style looks really cool. Looks like Setsuka's style but the weapon kinda looks like a rapier with a scabbard. Saddened that Omega Pyrrha is Sophitia.

Possible multiple spoiler for the SC5 story mode:
Spoilers: (Highlight to reveal)
Z.W.E.I and Viola is actually Yun-Seong and Amy respectively with amnesia. Algol saved both of them from being nearly malfested to death and revived them as new identities with new magic powers.
In coincidence, Z.W.E.I stumbled upon Viola who were rescued by Algol on both separate occasions away from each other, so the pair traveled together and eventually ended up with Siegfried's group in search of a successor for Soul Calibur (Alpha Patroklos)
Taki doesn't even make an in-game appearance in the game besides showing up in drawn art images in story mode. Taki traveled to the West to investigate the new troubles happening after SC/SE returned again. The ending of Natsu's storyline suggests Taki will return in another spin-off game or sequel.
Mitsurugi and Siegfried eventually confronts Algol once again but is interrupted by Nightmare and 'kills' Algol to fuse SE/SC together to become a whole new boss similar to Night Terror but is stopped by Patroklos before he can do that. Tira and Pyrrha come in to save Nightmare so the battle of Alpha and Omega happens.
If Patroklos decides to seal Pyrrha into crystal, Elysium will step in and battle him for the bad ending.
Sophitia was resurrected as a goddess after being malfested and now is Elysium by the way. Cassandra is barely mentioned.
Maxi gets to fight Kilik but wasn't able to save him in time due to Soul Edge's influence over both of them, so Xiba and Leixia have to battle both of them in an attempt to save them from corruption.
Kilik is a bad guy now because he chose not to hand over the Kali-Yuga (which had infused the remaining power of Soul Edge after SC4) to Xiba because he did not want the staff to corrupt him so he chose to try to suppress SE himself, and became distant to his friends as his personality started to change.
and turns out Kilik is actually Xiba's genetic father with Xianghua, and Leixia and Xiba are actually step siblings (but unaware of it) After Kilik left Xianghua to protect them from himself (but didn't tell them), Xianghua was forcefully married with a general at the Ming army and bore Leixia. Xianghua didn't want to tell Leixia that she had a step-brother since Kilik and her were estranged at the time when Kilik began to change and couldn't reveal that to her family and current husband who were unaware that Leixia was Xianghua's second child and Xianghua's 'innocence' was already taken by another man instead of him.
Xianghua gave Xiba under Edgemaster's care to protect him from being a target of the Ming imperial army, while Kilik vanished in the meantime.
Cervantes reveals that he was still actually cursed by Soul Edge the whole time and his human appearance was just temporary since Soul Edge would continually fluctuate or diminish with its power. Cervantes tells Ivy she is cursed just like him because they have remnants of Soul Edge power because of his bloodline, and as long as it exists, they will continue living in their current state and cannot die, and Ivy's ending shows her starting to form purple skin like Cervantes had.
Raphael encounters Viola and realizes that it is Amy, but Amy under Algol's power cannot remember her past forcing her to fight him in battle. Raphael wins and takes her unconscious body with him in hopes that he can help regain Amy's memory.
Talim, Zasalamel, Seung-Mina, Cassandra and Bangoo (not Rock for some reason but possible re-skin option) are DLC. Setsuka vanished after SC4 so that's why Patsuka was in the game to fill in her fighting stance. Might of forgotten a few more, but that's it. Pretty disappointing and predictable if you ask me.

How certain are you about this? Because...
Spoilers: (Highlight to reveal)
Yun-Seong:
Age 18 (Soulcalibur II-Soulcalibur IV)
Height 5'9"(175cm)
Weight 159 lbs(72kg)
Zwei:
Age Unknown (Appears to be early 20′s)
Height 6′′ (182 cm)
Weight 179 lbs. (81 kg)
There's a pretty big difference there. And there's been 17 years between the games, Yun would be vastly older looking than Zwei does in this game. At least Viola looks alot more mature than Amy, so it makes sense that they are the same.
This info is taken from the Soul Calibur wiki, btw.

Justin Wong had a stream yesterday playing SCV. He said during the stream that this is his first soul calibur he has ever played and that he likes the game and thinks its fun. here are some of his matches.

Story mode sounds very disappointing.
Why hasn't Japan released a game recently with a genuinely good story mode in some time? They seem to have this odd obsession with taking well-liked stories and characters and making these characters villainous/incompetent/weak or throwing them out entirely in favor of brand new characters nobody likes or asked for (see also the Final Fantasy series, the Parasite Eve series, the Metroid series, the Metal Gear series, the Resident Evil series....)
Why must EVERY Japanese game these days be a clusterf**** of convolution, conspiracy, double-dealings, and angsty emo moments?
Sorry for ranting... I'm on a rage after seeing Final Fantasy XIII-2's ending, and from the sound of things, Soul Calibur V has no idea what its fans like and respect about the series... but go ahead, Namco Bandai, keep showing us Ivy's tits and ass. Because THAT'S why we loved this fighting game series for nearly 10 years, right?
Dammit all.
