- Peter Mayhew Reportedly Will Return as Chewbacca For ‘Star Wars: Episode VII’

"Following recent online rumblings about abrupt changes to Peter Mayhew’s convention schedule, Heat Vision reports the 69-year-old actor will reprise his role as Chewbacca in Star Wars: Episode VII."

I'm sure that's nice for consistency, if nothing else.

No! Chewie is dead. Crushed by moon. End of Bacca! Died Roaring! Heroes Death. Saved Anakin Solo.

It could mean Chewbacca Jr., Chewbacca flashbacks or a clone – not necessarily consistency errors. As long as it's explained, I don't mind.

As far as its known Episode 7 will ignore post-ROTJ EU.

- British Newcomer Eyed For ‘Star Wars: Episode VII’ Role

The producers have their eye on Maisie Richardson-Sellers, an Oxford-trained actress whose credits seem to range from local stage plays to, well, more local stage plays.

Fair enough. I'm sure introducing unknowns won't hurt verisimilitude.

- New ‘Star Wars’ Films Won’t Use Expanded Universe

Tap dancing around the obvious. Spinoff have distilled an IGN clip nicely:

“You know, it’s not off-limits, and it’s certainly inspiring — I’m working on an animated show for [Lucasfilm] as well, Star Wars Rebels, that will take inspiration from everywhere, but — I know for the movies, the canon is the canon, and the canon is the six films that exist,” Kinberg said.

- The Legendary Star Wars Expanded Universe Turns a New Page

Now, with an exciting future filled with new cinematic installments of Star Wars, all aspects of Star Wars storytelling moving forward will be connected. Under Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy's direction, the company for the first time ever has formed a story group to oversee and coordinate all Star Wars creative development.

"We have an unprecedented slate of new Star Wars entertainment on the horizon," said Kennedy. "We're set to bring Star Wars back to the big screen, and continue the adventure through games, books, comics, and new formats that are just emerging. This future of interconnected storytelling will allow fans to explore this galaxy in deeper ways than ever before."

In order to give maximum creative freedom to the filmmakers and also preserve an element of surprise and discovery for the audience, Star Wars Episodes VII-IX will not tell the same story told in the post-Return of the Jedi Expanded Universe. While the universe that readers knew is changing, it is not being discarded. Creators of new Star Wars entertainment have full access to the rich content of the Expanded Universe. For example, elements of the EU are included in Star Wars Rebels. The Inquisitor, the Imperial Security Bureau, and Sienar Fleet Systems are story elements in the new animated series, and all these ideas find their origins in roleplaying game material published in the 1980s.

Demand for past tales of the Expanded Universe will keep them in print, presented under the new Legends banner.

On the screen, the first new canon to appear will be Star Wars Rebels. In print, the first new books to come from this creative collaboration include novels from Del Rey Books. First to be announced, John Jackson Miller is writing a novel that precedes the events of Star Wars Rebels and offers insight into a key character's backstory, with input directly from executive producers Dave Filoni, Simon Kinberg, and Greg Weisman.

Sounds like they're trying to have it an impossible number of ways.

I'm glad they are basically labeling the entire EU as non-canon and will borrow elements from it, but basically say "Nope, the 9 movies, plus Clone Wars, and Star Wars Rebels is the story line. We're starting over."

Oh, now they are doing what Lucas did too. Fucking shame really, the EU is properly developed and has the necessary corpus for a trilogy. Now again, as always before, everything will be rendered non-canon for a lot of fans because Lucas/Abrams has a different idea. This will piss off a lot of fans.

They will have to ignore it I guess, however that probably means the end for the current EU.

- Rumour: Harrison Ford has sizeable role in Star Wars: Episode VII?

Who doesn't want to see a whole lot of Han Solo before his painful, meaningless death no longer delayed by toys? Woo!

Nice to see Max Von Sydow! Also, I still think Adam Driver is one of the ugliest men I've ever seen, but Hamill is no Adonis either, I guess.

Several sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that director J.J. Abrams has another substantial role to fill — and it's a female part. No further details are known.

- College Humor: Star Wars Cantina Band Auditions

We partnered with Lucasfilm and YouTube on a trip back to Tatooine's favorite hive of scum and villainy. Featuring in order Chris Daughtry, Ben Folds, Liz Phair, Reggie Watts, Mark McGrath, Jordin Sparks, Rick Springfield, Weird Al, Lisa Loeb, and mc chris.

Nice bit of fun. More from individual artists in the playlist.

If I recall correctly, Droopy McCool, Sy Snootles, and Max Rebo had the cantina contract when they were part of Evar Orbus's Galactic Jizz-Wailers before Orbus was murdered by Figrin D'an and the Modal Nodes.

Holy shit, it's apparently not just the band name, "jizz" is a whole genre, it's like the Star Wars name for jazz.

That's fucking amazing. How did anyone not catch this at the proofreading stage?

"Jizz" was big news on the internet a year or two ago. Which was weird, because I really thought jizz was a big part of the internet since the 90s.

Y'know, because that's when the Special Editions were in re-release.

- ‘Star Wars: Episode VII’ Gets A Title (Maybe)

Take this one with a grain of salt, but “Star Wars: Episode VII” is finally rumored to have a full title. According to Ain’t It Cool News, the movie’s working title is “The Ancient Fear,” something that site founder Harry Knowles says has been confirmed by multiple sources. In addition, Knowles claims that this refers to Max Von Sydow’s villain character.
