I wanted to bring this up because ever since I turned 13 I've been stereotyped heavily. All because im a teen.Sometimes people I meet say "So your going to go in your room and watch MTV?".That gets me upset because I find it offensive.I hate when people do that.It dosent only happen in real life but even on the net it happens.

Take AOL for example I have my AOL account on Mature Teen.So I should have access to almost everything on the net except porn. But AOL blocks everything that they think "the so called Average Teen dosen't like."Well,AOL why do porno pics come up on Google? So your saying Teens look at porno.Sad but true some teens do look at porn. But thats not me.

I think parents play a big role into this stereotyping. If parents took responsibility for their kids and never relied on what they see on teens on TV doing.I don't think we would be having this problem.Im sure alot of people here have been in this situation before.

I don't let steroetyping get to me. I don't need stupid/ignorant people throwing some label at me, and I'm sure as hell not going to take one to heart...

sterotyping doesnt bother me. i just ignore it cause there insocure about themselves. that why other people get made fun of and sterotyped because of insecurity with themselves and there loneley and they take this out by sterotyping. so i just ignore it and dont give a damn about it.

I try to ignore most of the sterotyping in everyday life. It's pretty much impossible to not let any of it affect you...but I try my best. How do I feel about getting sterotyped? Um... a little pissy at times... but that's the price you pay for living in such ignorant times.

I simply LOL about it.

It had been quite some time since I had been stereotyped on a recurring basis, but that changed since I got XBC.

People constantly tell/ask me things like:

-"I didn't know people could get on the 'net from Honduras."

-"I didn't know people in Honduras even knew what Xbox was."

-"Is it true people in Honduras live in trees?"

Crap like that would bother me when I was much younger, but not anymore. Besides, the victory is that much better when that "poor, uneducated, indigenous person from Honduras" beats 'em in Halo glasses

Basically (and much like gossip), if you know it ain't true, why should it bother you?

Your right,I shouldn't let it get me upset. But I hate to hear people tell me how to live my life.I can see if there trying to help but if your telling me "your a teen so you should be watching MTV or NBC's Thursday night lineup."
I get pissed off especially after they say it more than once.

Sometimes people think I'm a stoner or a pothead because I have long, messy hair, and I don't talk much. I really don't care, because I don't use drugs (except the occaisional beer), and it doesn't really affect me if people think I do.

Ha ha... I once convinced some girl on icq chat that I lived in an igloo. I told her I lived in canada and her response was... "oh isn't it always winter up there?"

I just get pissed and my face shows it. For example, 2 of the stereotypes of me are:
1)Because my mother teaches at my school, most people who don't know me like my friends do think I'm an uptight, do-gooder. That's why I hate most of the people at my school.
2)I'm 6'2, so I should be a pro at Basketball. That really infuriates me, since they don't realize its practicing which gets you good at it, and yet all I do at home is talk to you guys and play video games.

The one stereotype that I really hate is about my light skin. Just because I have light (brown) skin doesn't automatically make me a white/black mix; I'm half indian half black by the way.

But anyway, that realllllly gets on my nerves when people who don't even know me automatically assume I'm white and black.

Does it offend you because they say "white" or what? What if they said "black and latino"? Would that piss ya off?

It bothers me immensely when I get stereotyped as an artist. "OMFG You should go pro o_o" "OMFG you should be a graphic design person!" "OMFG You draw pr0n!"
They don't get it. Cliché as that is for me to say, but they don't. I can't shell things out based on deadlines, being able to draw doesn't make me an applicant for graphic design, and pr0n does not anime make. :P

I won't even go into the stereotypes that follow my favored music. Or my choice of faith. Or my political leanings. @_@

More power to Honduran pwnage grin You show 'em what tree-residing aboriginees can do!

I don't get stereotyped often.

What I do hate, however: I'm a writer, and in my study form there are lots of other people who write (I'm majoring in English with a German minor and optional Norwegian and Finnish). However, some people are regarded as "truer" artists because they look more like the cliché type of writer: semi-marginal, drinks a lot, falls into despondent silences, etc etc. That I find really irksome.

Oh yeah and about nationalities, heh, well, Belgium doesn't get stereotyped often by Americanse because they usually don't know where the hell it is (no offence to those who do). A friend of mine succeeded in convincing an American woman that Belgium was an island in the Pacific Ocean. Go figure.

The only question (a part from the obligatory "isn't Belgium the capital of Brussels" or "I thought Belgium was a part of Germany") that really bothers me is that some people presume that everyone in Belgium speaks French, while 58% of our population, including me, has Dutch as their mother language. RAR.

Rant over :).

Cheers,
VQ

By the way what's wrong with porn.

Let's not forget the typical "Since you're Colombian, either you do or you sell drugs".

i got stereotyped by my participation in government teacher last week because i have hair to my mid back and he used me as an example stereotyping me as a long haired hardcore druggie hippie when actually despite my long hair im actually pretty conservative. Everyone also says that i look like a druggie just because of my long hair.

In 5th grade, one day I was absent and I forgot to do my homework. Well, the teacher knew I liked computer games and stuff. So when I came back and told her what happened, she yelled:
WHAT WERE YOU DOING, PLAYING ON YOUR COMPUTER?!!?
When I got back home, I had this punching bag on a metal rod in my room. I got filled up with so much anger I punched it until it flew off of the rod. I felt much better then.
Oh, and very few people call me a "geek" because I like computers. Well, when this one kid named Julian calls me that, I make fun of his obsessions with GI Joes.

Where I come from, there are Italians who think very highly of themselves, but to the point at which they think that all other nationalities suck. People are extremely surprised when they find out I'm Italian because of the stereotype that all Italians in my area are a bunch of bigot punks with fake Italian accents who call everyone they know "bro". The stereotype itself pisses me off, but I enjoy surprising people with the way I act compared to the way other Italians they know act.
