I find it rediculous that we've gone from "Whats your phone number?" to "Whats your E-mail address?" or "Do you have IM?"

I disagree Long Distance Relationships anyway, but online relationship are ludicrous. The only ones I've seen be effective are ones where the participants are in their 30s-40s, they're either desperate or have difficulty finding someone within a 50 mile radius (in that case the problem is them), and they have the liberty and luxury of packing up and moving to a destination to establish a relationship.

In any other conditions the chance of it being successful are little, especially with people in their early 20's

But hell, GO MKO!!! tongue

Believe me, I would never recommend a long distance relationship to anyone. But I think I've lucked out, cuz I found a preson I am very close to. And I am damn well committed to making it work, so no one better think Im not serious about it. Anywho, thanks for the reply. XD

Why is the email address and IM thing ridiculous?

Same concept as a phone number really and nowadays it's just as easy to do, especially with how many folks have PC's nowadays.

Hell, arranging a meet after work or with offline friends via email and IM is standard fare nowadays IMO.

Stereotyping that people that have online relationships are "desperate" or that they have a "problem" if they can't find someone they like or that is single in their area is a load of horsecrap.

Sometimes things happen as they do, and an online friendship blossoms into something more over time and people are curious on meeting up and do.

And those that are actively seeking an online relationship or for someone to meet in person online shouldn't get slapped with a negative stereotype for it either.

Using the internet to meet people is no different from someone browsing a personals ad listing or even using a telephone dating line as you see shown on TV.

Some folks don't have the time or luxury to go out and meet people elsewise, or don't want to go to a bar to find someone as usually happens.

You have a broader spectrum to find someone compatible with yourself online...literally the world at your fingertips.

You say you don't agree with Long Distance Relationships but give no reasons why, and have you experienced it yourself to be so knowledgable?

It's one thing to assume what it's like, it's quite another to actually do it and know what it's like.

I'm not flaming you with this, I'm just giving you my own point of view is all and trying to clear up assumptions and stereotypes here. smile

And good luck MetaDragonX and Neoscorpion, you'll need it. lol

The first bit, yeah I guess I did say that in more than a few words, money is something that is required by the boatload if you are going to go outside of your country or province though.

And the last part....only if you lack the money and seriousness about things and by chance are in different countries.

Not saying it won't work if you live a fair distance apart, but it'll be difficult.

Took me long enough to reply tongue

Thank you all for your kind words. I didn't even believe in long distance/online relationships at first. When I first met Meta, I figured we would be good friends just like all my other online friends, but the more I talked to him, the more I developed feelings for him. And I have also noticed that he's been giving hints of him liking me as well, even through IM. We both soon realized that really liked each other and it eventually blossomed into love. So far, we've talked to each other on the phone (every night) and have even sent each other gifts through regular mail (I haven't taken off the ring that he sent me since I got it). Indeed, it's hard when someone is so far away, but everyday I always think to myself, "One day closer" to the day that Meta and I will finally be with each other. And after Christmas that will happen.

MetadragonX, I love you smile
