What song or tune do you always play to warm up. there always a tune that comes first before you play anything else.
PS: Precise the instrument you are playing.
Guitar:
-One (metallica)
-I'll see you soon (Coldplay)
-More than Words (extreme)
-Is there anybody out there (Pink Floyd)

I'm odd like that, I tend to steer away from playing songs that I haven't written myself, as much as I may love them.
I just have excercises I do before I start playing, such as...
Bass - Spend a few minutes just playing running lines (16th note running with 2 fingers, 32nd's using three depending on the tempo, ring finger, middle, index, middle, repeat). Spend a few more minutes practicing some quick scale runs up and down the fretboard on all 5 strings (I don't climb right up the scale and then back down really, just mess around within a scale quickly all over the fretboard). By this stage my right hand and left hand are warmed up about as well as eachother and are going nicely, so I get into a few minutes of sweeping, tapping, some of the harder stuff. All in all that's about 10 minutes of warming up, about the length 2 whole songs, doesn't eat into my time like playing along to 10 songs first would
My warm up for guitar is pretty much exactly the same, so I wont bother repeating myself.
The only time I really play other peoples songs is when I'm jamming with my band, we have quite a few songs on our "Must cover sooner or later" list. Even though we're all about writing our own stuff, covers are fun to do anyways. Some of the songs on that list - "Hallowed Be Thy Name" by Irons, "Fade to Black" by 'Tallica, "The Jesters Race" by In Flames, "Haven" by Dark Tranquillity, "Solitude Within" or "A Scattered Me" by Evergrey, etc... All the bands who we can thank for inspiring us to play and giving us a sound to toy with and mould into our own

For bass, I start plucking minor and major scales up and and down with index and middle, then with index and ring, then with all three first fingers. Then I usually loosen my fingers by playing each string open at tremelo speeds for a few measures, starting with B and ending with G(using three fingers. I can do it with two, but I don't have adequate stamina). After that, I start playing arppegios(sp?) with different chord shapes. They're usually not in key at all, but they're good for the fingers. XD After that, I start slapping the E and A string randomly until I realize that I don't know how to slap and skip that part. :D Then I play excerpts from the following songs:
Iron Maiden - Blood Brothers(bass intro)
Metallica - Orion(main riff and bass interlude; not solo)
Metallica - Master of Puppets(Skip the soft middle section)
Metallica - pulling teeth(first minute only)
Iron Maiden - Flight of Icarus(good for rhythm
Iced Earth - The Hunter(also good for rhythm)

I just warm up with the most recent songs I've learned. One I always like to play is Little Wing by Stevie Ray Vaughn though.

I Have Become as the Wastelands of Unending Nothingness. Now Shall the Night Things Fill Me with their Whisperings, and the Shadows Reveal their Wisdom.

I play guitar, and I basically just play either something I've learned recently, or a couple of riffs I've written myself. Or I'll just pull some riffs out of my ass.
cool things.
To temp, I play just a little of bass and pulling teeth and my friend of misery (live from Live shit 92-93) are the first ones I've learned. Well just the intro. I've learned them easly because of the guitar but I don't play those like a "real bass player", I play them with guitar arpeges skills but it sound the same. Well I'm not a bass player but I love bass anyways.
Cool stuff everyone!
I used to be in a band long time ago, a death metal band and we always warmed up playing Fade to black, Whiplash, seek and destroy,....
If we lived all closed we could all jam together!
Guitar Players: Foachon xcarnagex Firesnake MaxDam
Guitar Solo players: Ghaleon Shadow song
Drums: Malignat (sp?) Abondabaa
Bass Players: Forevergrey Temp
Singers: You_suck
Cellist KenshiKw2 (there is so many cool parts in that could use a cellist, trust me)
Rap: Upgrade (fusion)
Queve, you didn't precise what you are, a singer, pianist,...

BTW, I'm a vocalist as well.
Spent a year in choir actually. I have baritone voice, although I can hit a lot of tenor notes. My range is pretty good, though. If my voice was a steak, it would be medium well-done, if that makese any sense.

Sweet
I'm kinda like a vocalist as well, but only for for Death metal saturated voice, a little like Jeff Walker (Bass and singer from Carcass).

I'm trying to learn Death Metal vocals, but honestly, i don't know how to do it without fucking up my voice. After a few verses my throat is in agony. But when I do make an attempt, I sound most similiar to Mikael Stann(Dark Tranquillity).

It did the same to me, it's practice what you need, at first, I couln't end a single song, but praticing everyday. I could pull 15 song, then it started to fuck up my voice lol.
It's being too long since so pulled off a death metal voice. I sometimes do it when I'm alone driving in the car. Praticing with Hypocrisy, Carcass, Morbid Angel, Dark Tranquility,...

Well, before now, the only advice I got for singing Death Metal was "Drink lots of Whisky," lol.
Yeah, if it's just a matter of breaking in my voice, then I guess that's cool. My goal is to be able to switch from death vocals to clear vocals(like Anders Friden). But fifteen songs is pretty damn impressive, heh.

I play keyboards/piano so I don't usually do any specific song I just make up as I go along but sometimes I go with Clocks by Coldplay, Unintended by Muse, Sweet Dreams by Eurythmics and the intro parts of Fade To Black and Enter Sandman by Metallica.

I do death metal vocals in my car too. I'm usually growling to hate eternal or something, and either doing blast beats on my steering wheel, or giving other drivers the evil claw hand of doom.
