Welcome to the second day of live coverage at E3 2006 in Los Angeles! For this update, we went to visit the Microsoft Booth where they showcased a bunch of games for Xbox Live Arcade - including Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3! This seems to play arcade perfect. It should be noted that in the version we played, there were no Classi\c Sub-Zero, Ermac, or Mileena playable. Of course, they could be unlocked using the correct Kombat Kode, but there is no word yet on whether the characters would be unlocked permanently or whether you would need to re-enter the kode each time you start the game in order to use these characters. Enjoy the pictures!

That "Achievments" menu option kinda hints to me that maybe Ermac, Mileena, and Classic Sub-Zero are saveable. Awesome.

I'm hoping they put this on "Live Anywhere" so I can just play it on PC!

This might be a stupid question, but is there a free version of the game on the Marketplace? If so, what differences are there with the full (paid) version?

Well the free version just tends to be the playable game. If you pay, you can play it online and unlock the achievements.

It looks like it's going to have online play. Which I was hoping for. I just hope there isn't any ghosting, or shadowing like the versdion from Midway Arcade Treasures. I still hope they release MK2 as well eventually. MK3/UMK3, and MK 2 are my 2 favorite of the 2d versions from the series.

Sweet!!!
Great, now I have to get a Wii and a 360 in the same year. lol
When exactly is this coming out though?

Hopefully this game does well on Marketplace so Midway will also release online versions of MK and MK2.

There are only 3 infinites in the game that are possible to get in gameplay. Kung Lao's variations, Stryker's corner, JK, LP, gun and variants, and Shang's ground eruption, but even that is sketchy. Reptile has some infinites that work on a few characters here and there, and the only people on earth who will ever do them to you are me, and ded_ (psykosonic), and you will probably not be playing him any time soon because he lives in Bulgaria.
Relaunch infinites are unreliable at best. You will see people get no more than 2 relaunches in a combo before messing up generally. The biggest relaunch combo I ever got was 81% I believe, with Classic Sub-zero on a character very easy to time it against, like a Robot Ninja.
Other than Kung's inf , I would be more worried about Ermac, Human Smoke, Sindel, and Kabal's combos than those infinites.

Will the DOA4 arcade stick work with UMK3 on 360?
Unfortunately they use a Capcom-style 6-button layout on that stick. So you'd have to do some awkward configuration, like using the lower-middle button for Run. I with they just put two extra buttons on there so you could have some more options with the layout. Will the DOA4 arcade stick work with UMK3 on 360?
The X-Arcade controller that I have has a layout that accommodates MK very nicely (Capcom layout PLUS two extra buttons on the bottom, offset to the left - one of those works great as a run button). But that controller isn't supported by the 360 yet. Microsoft has some weird prohibitive policies on 3rd-party preripherals for the 360... hopefully they relax those a bit so we can have some more joystick options. This is another reason to hope that Live Anywhere will allow us to play the Live Arcade on PC, so we can just use any PC controller or a keyboard.

Yeah, UMK3 is a million times more balanced then Deception is it's not even funny.
It will be online btw for the dude that said it might not be.
If it's not online then IMO there's really no point.Know what I mean?
I agree with MK2KungBroken, the infinites in UMK3 are near to impossible to pull off compared to Deceptions.

Indeed. But I would not be opposed to a slightly altered version to take some of them out. Particularly the relaunces and Kung Lao's. Even though the relaunches are impractical it seems wrong that they exist.

Yeah Live Anywhere is nice but what if I want to play on my 26 inch LCD HDTV? I'm not a big PC gamer I pretty much grew up in the arcades so I'd love to see support for arcade sticks on the 360. If they don't change their 3rd-party politics I know I can still play with the 360 controller but really who wants to play UMK3 with that? I think it's time we send emails to Microsoft.
