Wow...I'd hope that you, Sir, know exactly what this means.
Anyone with a decent amount of education would know that this is exactly how changes in the world begin.
I have no further need to explain the obvious.

Thanks Queve = )
I was at the Stonewall Inn with the crowd when it passed, it was amazing! words can't express the energy and emotion there. A moment in history that I got to be part of, and will never forget. And now I can get married!! If only I had a boy-friend...

To be honest, I agree with Ninja_Mime; California overturned the right just as quickly as they instated it.

Don't get me wrong, it's cool that NY's made it legal, but let's not celebrate just yet, not until it's settled in more.

Well, no victory is ever permanent, and certainly no civil right has ever been won and maintained without its struggles and setbacks; in fact, that's part of what makes them so precious and valuable (and therefore worth celebrating), is that there is so much time, energy, effort, and drama invested in them. Personally, I think the recognition of the right by the state for gays to marry is worth celebrating, even if it only lasts for a week, especially if you're gay, living in New York, and you have been wanting to get married to your significant other.

Congrats, but Cuomo is still a piece of shit.
Times are changing, I can tolerate the idea of gay marriage and I can sympathize with the constant struggle of gay people not being able to fully express themselves without being heckled or being harassed for something that they are. Idealy speaking, economically this is also good news in the fact that people are going to flock to New York and will be spending money, buying retail, ect, their money and their generosity towards the communities can help out a lot in cleaning the streets helping to establish schools, there's a lot of potential there.
Only downside to all of this is that it's not going to be easy, I kind of have some adjusting to do and I have to make it an attempt to consider it a norm to see two men or two women in marriage being able to show intimacy in public and things of that nature, I just don't see that very often and not to sound cruel but it's "different". And Religiously speaking, I do believe in the sanctity of marriage between a man and a woman and I feel that is something that is just sacred in my eyes and it keeps the world going in many cases, I mean marriage is a practice going on globally. But even with my beliefs, I still think it's a step forward in letting people just be people and not have to hide who they are, I feel that once we all accept this with each other half the problems we got are going to stop. Not to sound corny or like a dooche bag, or some yellow journalist politician but from what I remember, America is the place to pursue Liberty, Justice, and the pursuit of happiness, so allowing gay peoples to marry is just another way of saying that Americans don't just talk shit like the rest of the world thinks we do, we back it up too.

Excellent news!
Although I'm homosexual myself, I still think that there are bigger issues to be dealt with politically.
Still, that doesn't negate the importance (As someone has already said).

You seemed to miss the message here, just as one wants to have people accept others for who they are, you need to accept the fact that it takes time for that. so to answer your question, i'll get by just fine. but both sides need to be respectful towards each other and make an attempt to understand each other, the law was passed but the whole paradigm of people isn't going to simply change over night as soon as the law went through. in order for anything to work out both gay and straight people need to simply show respect
That's an interesting way to think about things. I have always felt like the acceptance of the homosexual community has been ... a work in progress for the past hundred years or more. But the way you write about it, it's like ... homosexual couples will only now start appearing in public together? I guess, I mean I'm writing from the perspective of a liberal NYC person, and maybe you're writing as the perspective of someone else, but ... I don't know.
