As any fan of Daredevil will know, Ben Affleck's massive head doesn't fit into a cowl. So I think the casting immediately confirms the presence of a Dark Knight Returns style mech-suit and helmet. One that can match Superman and won't accentuate Affleck's ridiculous noggin.

I don't think a cowl would be bad on Affleck for batman. Matte black is a more slimming color than a glossy red.
On a side note I think Affleck, Damon and Kevin smith would be much better suited to do a super hero spoof movie in the same vein as spaceballs.

Afleck won a Golden Rasberry Award for worst actor for Daredevil. The movie was horrendous.
Better choices for this new Batman film would be Sylvester Stallone, Gilbert Gottfried, and Queen Latifah.

Have to wait to see for myself
I think with Heath Ledger people were more concerned about characterization. People were concerned about what kind of Joker we were going to get with Heath Ledger playing this character. The Joker we got was indeed very different from any we've seen before and people really liked for some reason. I guess because it was wonderfully acted.
With Affleck people are not questioning the kind of Batman he'll be but if he can play anything really. Heath Ledger's acting ability was never in question, Ben Affleck's is.

Kevin Smith seems to think Affleck is the best actor ever, even once saying he could have had a role in Jaws...as the shark. But Batman is his favorite Comic Book Hero. I can't wait to see his reaction to this. The first time Batman tells Gordon he likes to put his villains in a very uncomfortable place I'm walking out of the theater.

He'l make a great Bruce Wayne, if you ask me.
I'm struggling to picture him in Batmode but people are jumping on this Bandwagon too much.
We've survived George Clooneys Bat-Nipples, we'l live.

The George Clooney bat-nipples were campy and ridiculous like everything else in the movie. That wasn't even the worst part of the movie lol.
I think you're right and he'll be better as Bruce Wayne which is a switch from Christian Bale who was a pretty shitty Bruce Wayne.

Ok I've not gotten a straight answer yet. Is this a continuation of the Nolan series? Or a (I hope to God) new Batman altogether for a more....Justice Leaguey atmosphere?
I have no problems either way -I'm gonna stay optimistic- but changing actors bugs the hell out of me.

So apparently there is a petition on change.org to have Ben Affleck fired from the movie already: Change.org - Fire Affleck as Batman
I think this is completely overblown. If people are so against this choice, don't see the movie.

What they could have done was get Joseph-Gordon Levitt to be as Batman, that could have tied in everything since they're obviously trying to do what Marvel is doing with their characters.

This would have been a way better idea, I almost wish they wouldn't have changed Bale even though I wasn't too much a fan of his Batman. But yeah Marvel has a way better consistency when it comes to keeping their actors (with a few exceptions because the changes that were made were def necessary imo )
I might be one of the few, but I actually like Ben being cast as Bruce Wayne. I can totally see him pulling it off. Instead of being all in-arms about it, why not give the guy a fair chance? People are so ruthless and unforgiving these days, sheesh.

I can't picture Joseph-Gordon Levitt as batman. He's smaller than Affleck. Robin or Nightwing, sure but not Batman.
My thought has been that if they want to reboot Batman, just set the movie 40-50 years in the future and do a Batman Beyond trilogy. They could hire on the guys that did Tron legacy and give it the same look. They could cast a new & younger batman, use more of the unrealistic villains because of advances in technology (they would seem more practical like Mr. Freeze). They could even use JGL as an aged Knightwing in the same role as Wayne was in the Batman Beyond series.

While they are trying to tie in towards a Justice League-based film, Man of Steel is intended to be the first movie in the series. As far as Christopher Nolan (who was one of the producers of Man of Steel, remember) is concerned, the Dark Knight trilogy is a stand-alone work that has a definite beginning and end.
