DC Injustice..and my opinion [Is it relevant to MK?]

I want to make one thing very clear before I start this. First this is my opinion and while I welcome anyone to question it just keep that part in mind. Second this web site has for many years been titled "MORTALKOMBATONLINE.COM" so with that said I start.

When I first heard the announcement that NeatheRRealm was going to create a game that had Nothing to do with Mortal Kombat but was a fighting game the a few things came to mind. First thing that came to mind was the fact this had nothing to do with Mortal Kombat so why are so many Mortal Kombat Fan sites talking about it?

Seriously if this was a web site based on the Mega Man Series would I really be at all interested in hear about Devil May Cry or any other franchise based on Capcoms Other Franchises? Probably not.. Hell I think I would down right frustrated with that. However Seeing as how Mortal Kombat is a Fighting game and this game Injustice is also a fighting game I figure maybe a tie in would be made to justify it. So I gave the game a shot and to my surprise the results really didn't change.

To be honest I am very disappointed with the Mortal Kombat Community as a whole. Not to say anything is wrong with anyone or anything like that but Midway was producing several games from several other series and they never saw light of day on here. Why this game is getting credit on a site TITLED "MORTAL KOMBAT ONLINE" is still beyond me.

However I will move on from this and say that Yes I have played the game, Finished all of battle mode, story mode and even gotten as much content as is available right now. Really I have no problem with the game at all for the most part however I will say I believe it has no place on this or any other web site dedicated to Mortal Kombat Fans. I say this because learning to play this game really is like learning to play soul calibur, Dead or alive, Tekken or any other fighting game that has NOTHING to do with Mortal Kombat.

It must be me but i expected more from this community. I know that my heart is in the right place with this because A. i still loveeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Mortal Kombat with every thing in myself. I really look forward to seeing these sites return to the series once 10 comes out however for now.. I really can't say I think anything this community is doing is right in my own opinion.

I don't see the problem shifting focus over to Injustice. It's not like there has been a load of Mortal Kombat news being ignored because of Injustice. This time next year, the website will have shifted focus over to the new MK game and no one will remember being upset about this.

We and several other MK sites are following this game because while there have been tons of other midway games that we didn't cover, this game was developed by the same team that developed the mortal kombat games.

And I am glad that we do talk about injustice on these forums, because there would be a drought on posts and topics and nothing much to talk about since there's no announcement on MK10 yet.

It's a fighting game made by the same developers, simple as that. Also, MK9 is a dead game that almost no one is interested in anymore, you can try and talk about it in the MK 2011 board though.

Well I for one do not agree with the OP at all. While this game is focused on the DC universe, it's still made by the people who created the franchise we love to argue about. In reality just because this website is MKO does not mean we are limited to just discussing MK. If that were the logic then the General forum would not exist at all.

Wauw, Meth. You disappoint me with that attitude, and that you seem ignorant of why MKO support info on Injustice as well as Mortal Kombat. Does it really bother you this much that there are other titles that get the attention here? If so, then you are more than welcome to leave. No one is forcing you to be around.

That's kind of a silly opinion.

We cover it because it's connected to MK via MK vs DCU. And while this isn't a direct continuation of that game it's made by the same people and is the second time NRS is handling this character and this world.

To say you're disappointed in the community is just ridiculous. You'd somehow find it better if MKO just ignored the entire development of this game and lay dormant and dead until news of a new MK game finally breaks?

Also this game is based around MKO because before MK2011 Boon and company weren't their own studio. They'd never really made anything that wasn't a Mortal Kombat game. Now that their spreading their wings a bit. You don't think people that are interested in Mega Man look up other Kenji Inafune games?

Come on.

NRS didn't make MK vs DC, yet it was the MK team it wasn't established as Nether Realm Studios until MK9. MK vs DC was a WB initiation, that if buying MK from Midway would be worth it. And it totally was.

Props for being open with your opinion. To counter equally with my honest opinion, that rant makes absolutely no sense to me. It's so off the wall, I'm not even sure that you aren't just trolling to garner attention.

I don't feel the need to repeat any of the perfectly obvious reasons the other members gave. I'll simply say, I can't possibly imagine how covering Injustice could have been bad for the site. Granted, me and the rest of my casual ilk will be gone after the interest dies down. But the excitement generates user activity for the site. Isn't "user activity" the exact thing that an obscure hobbyist site hopes for? Why are you rooting for the site to fail? Your opinion blows my mind.
To the OP, Mortal Kombat has always been a very comic book style of a game and in the character designs. A lot of comic book fans are big into MK. So for people to talk about a game, created by, literally created by the same devs as MK specifically isn't too fucking hard of an idea to grasp onto. If you want to be an MK only purist, then go play MK. People are enjoying and talking about Injustice because how much fun it is, and I would think they enjoy it because it is like MK in the respect of special moves and combos. They're damn near the same style just with DC characters. Edit: And saying this is like a Mega Man board talking about other things Capcom does makes no fucking sense. Like I said, the people who made MK, made Injustice. Plus Boon is the creative director.

The Injustice news has kept me coming back to MKO.

If not for it this website would have been super boring for the past while. I would understand if MK news was getting pushed aside due to Injustice but there simply hasn't been any news :(

This site would've practically died for about 3 years if they hadn't covered injustice. It would've been bad business if they hadn't.

Granted they had a different name and less team members from the actual Midway games (Now) It was still by Ed boon and WB none the less.

wow way more responses then I expected. Yet again let me try to reword what I have already written or better yet explain myself better.

All of are are in love with Mortal Kombat that much I know. Its the reason we have the sites we do. This one is titled Mortal Kombat Online..

Now here is what bothers me.. and this really is more of a question to everyone.

If tomorrow "and THANK GOD THIS WILL NEVER HAPPEN" NRS went out of business. The Rights to mortal kombat lets say was sold to Capcom "Brand new team but lets say the same focus on the fighting game as it is" Wouldn't that still be part of what this web site does as a focus?

Another good question at hand would be lets say NRS did choose to not make MK 10 Next.. Lets say they went with something COMPLETELY different like.. I don't know they wanted to make a ZELDA GAME, or Call of duty.. Again would that be a focus for this community?

The second question I think is more relevant to what I am trying to make about my opinion. DC universe has Zero to do with the Mortal Kombat story, short of MK VS DC.. Hell Dc has even produced content involving Marvel which again can be taken as a different universe entirely and don't get me wrong here.

I LOVE INJUSTICE.. don't miss read that.. Its a great game and I am glad the NRS created it. However this community is based around Mortal Kombat..and I think personally the focus some how has drifted to Focusing on the CREATORS more then the series.. If thats the case...COOL..

I have no problems with anything about that.. However I do question it.

Injustice uses the same engine as MK. Devil May Cry didn't use the same engine as Mega Man X8. If NRS made a shooter, it probably wouldn't use the same gameplay engine as MK9.

The fact is, we're not just fans. We're a community. What the community focuses on will be the focus of community websites. It's as simple as that.

My opinion?

Any company who try to put so much content and love into their games deserves support.

After having to deal with EA and their "support" (Been playing competitive Battlefield 3 the last year and a bit) it is awesome to have a new game from NRS to enjoy. I actually enjoy giving them money.

They obviously can't please everyone all the time (those DLC rumours...) but they sure do try.

I don't think it's fair to say we DON'T/CAN'T/SHOULDN'T talk about other games here, because in the General Discussion forum there are threads about Mario, Pokemon, GoW etc.

I'm confused as to why it's an issue?

Midway wasn't just the MK team. The other games that were made by Midway were not made by the MK team. This one is. Therefor it is completely relevant to the Mortal Kombat community.

Warner Brothers makes a metric fuck-ton of other games too. You don't see forums for them do you?

I don't see the problem. Other fighters are discussed over on Shoryuken, which I'd consider the Street Fighter equivalent of MKO. No problem at all.
