The rage meter sounds very good. Although, I will say this... I hope that it's not a combo breaker like it was in the last couple of games. I hope that you can use a portion of the meter as a counter (like an alpha counter in SF), as opposed to actually breaking out of a combo.
Oh CHRIST. Fucking hell Midway. It all sounded like it was going so well up until this Rage meter garbage, I was really looking forward to the game. But I mean seriously, six seconds of unblockable, UPSCALED damage? What the FUCK? Seriously? How could anyone POSSIBLY justify that being a good idea? It's like Ed Boon has some kind of fucking brain disease. This is - honest to God - the single worst idea I've ever heard of in any fighting game ever, and possibly any game ever period. There is no chance that this "might work out." This game is screwed and there is absolutely no saving it.
The only possible way this game is going to be remotely playable is if we get another situation where every character is so insanely broken that it actually balances itself out. I mean, six... fuck, words cannot... six seconds is a 100% damage combo. Let alone six seconds of unblockable UPSCALED damage. It's almost actually funny. Almost.
I'm just angry that it seemed like Midway had got their shit together for the first time in ten years and then they go and do this. Damn it. I'm sick of feeling cheated as a fan of this franchise.

It's six seconds of unblockable hits, big whoop. I doubt the power of you moves are so upscaled that they'll break the gameplay

Do you realise that half a second of not being able to block means you get launched and smashed horribly in almost every 3D fighter including Mortal Kombat? You understand how fighting games work, right?
So the game is even more of a broken comedy of errors than it was before. Big woop. Who gives a doodle. Whoopie ding-dong-doo. So every character has twelve 100% combos. Whoop dee doo. Who gives a bibble. Gabba-gabba hey.

I agree. There's no way I can see this "rage" thing (in current form) being a good thing. 6 seconds is actually longer (especially in a fighting game match) than most realize. I'm still excited for the game, but this feature has me VERY worried. It was coming along so well to.

if there are twevle infinites for every character, then the rage meter will be the least of our problems, mirite?
And infinites are banned in all fighting games (except Smash, which is weird) so I doubt the Rage Meter will be messing up the precious, precious meta game of MK. Six seconds isn't a big deal

Yeah, I have to agree with you guys. This rage meter thing is not needed at all. Will be just another thing for people to abuse in game. If they wanted to add a new feature besides the Free Fall and Klose Kombat, they sure as heck could have thought of a more creative idea instead of rehashing the MK Trilogy Aggressor and slapping a new name on it. LAME! Why not use the rage meter to pull off some sort of visually stunning super move that can only be done once per round, kind of like the super moves in Free Fall, only you're on the ground and they differ greatly from your Free Fall super. Sounds better than this crap.

Rage meter is just another in a big bag of gimmick-laden distractions.
Are we really shocked it's coming back to join the quicktime events and animatics? With any luck it'll be downplayed, like the SC instant kills. I think that's the best we can hope for.

Yeah, see.. I think that would have been better. Totally agree.
@Mick: Good point. Still, for a second there, it was looking like this one might have been a bit better. Guess that'll show us for getting our hopes up. Should have known better by now.

If you can't avoid rivals punchs/kicks during six seconds, isn't the game that it's broken... more probably, you're not good player.
P2 can't block P1 attacks... but P1 isn't invincible to P2 attacks, and P2 can counterattack with his own Rage Mode...
And we don't know if we can fill up more than one rage meter in one round/fight, and specially if not, we will be carefully with the timing of using the Rage Mode...

I agree I think some of the above posters are waaay too worried about it. Just wait and see how it works before we judge it okay?

Everyone is forgetting that the meter will allow combo breaks, this isn't just aggressor mode all over again. Am I a fan of six seconds of unblockable hits? No, but if it means we get some form of defensive options, I'm all for it. Hopefully it will balance itself out.

It's one, and it [doesn't] automatically activate upon filling up (fortunately. Glad I misread). What the fuck are you gonna do to avoid six seconds of a rage-induced player? Hop up and down and hope a projectile doesn't hit you? That's retarded. Six seconds is more than enough time to be caught and end the match. Period.

In regards to the Rage meter, Kotaku just did a Joker walk through, basically giving us the same information (except a couple more special moves) however when they talked about Rage, all they mentioned was that your attacks did more damage, they didn't mention anything about them being unblockable. Gamespot has been pretty fail lately, it wouldn't surprise me if they reported it's functions wrong.

This whole Rage meter thing could be pretty cool.
The fact is, you'd have to get whooped pretty bad for your opponent to even have a chance to use it. I mean, you have to have all your attacks blocked, you have to get hit. And you're going to be using the Rage meter for reversals, so you have the choice of being defensive or offensive.
I do agree with the criticisms though. I mean, even a split-second in a fighting game means a lot. Six seconds is a really long time to be unblockable.

Six seconds is an eternity in a fighting game. I certainly hope it's not unblockable. Boon and Co. have to chill with the unblockable stuff anyway. That's partly what got them into trouble in previous games. Stuff like Scorpion's Hellfire and Dairou's Tombstone Drop. They need to get it in their head that if something is unblockable then it damn well better be slow as old people on the highway.

Yea you guys know where it's at, it's all in the strategy if you can't dodge it than thats your problem right? Not the game but the player's fault.
