Well, I went to see Superman Returns today, and I must say it was pretty good overall. Brandon Routh makes a good Superman and really reminds me of Christopher Reeve quite a bit. Kevin Spacey was excellent as Lex Luthor and fills Gene Hackman's shoes quite well. They did seem to have a similar performance style for the role of Lex Luthor. Kate Bosworth wasn't too bad as Lois Lane though to me, she looks a bit younger than I would've expected Lois to be.

Spoilers: (Highlight to reveal)
Basically, the plot involves Superman's return after 5 years away from Earth. He was trying to search for Krypton, which astronomers apparently discovered. From what I remember, he didn't really see a new planet or anything, but perhaps in a future Superman movie, we'll see New Krypton.

When Superman returns, he learns that people have moved on with their lives, especially Lois, who has a boyfriend/fiancee and a son. Of course Superman feels jealous and heartbroken, especially when he sees that Lois wrote an article called "Why the world doesn't need Superman".

Meanwhile, Lex Luthor infiltrates the Fortress of Solitude and steals some crystals from it, attempting to create land masses.

This has a bit more of a modernized and darker feel to it than the other Superman movies, but it still holds that old Superman nostalgia to it, especially with the theme song from the other movies being kept.

There is one big surprise in the movie though I'm not sure if should even spoil it in here.

Overall, it was well done though to me, Batman Begins is better.

Don't spoil any more
^Just don't highlight the spoiler box.

I haven't had the oppurtunity to see Superman Returns yet, but from the looks of the previews, Spacey's Luthor seems a lot like Hackman's except a bit more sinister.

Yeah, you're pretty much on the dot about Spacey's performance. It was a lot like Hackman's, but it was more sinister.

OHHHH, HELL YEAH!!!!!!!!!

Fucking badass movie!! This movie OWNS X-Men 3 any day!!

First off I want to say that Routh did an excellent job as Superman, he even sounds a little like Reeve did if you listen closely.

I loved the movie and I feel that this is the best Superman movie yet!

The second one was also great. That one and this one are the best hands down!

Spacey's performances was GREAT as luthor.Sinister doesn't begin to explain it man lol.Much more darker and evil then Hackman's jokey Lex which was kind of lame if you ask me.

Yes, there is a HUGE surprise that has lots of potential for movies in the future but I won't give it away.

........Yet You guys have to see this movie.I won't keep quiet forever hehehehe. 5 out of 5 I give this movie!

First off, wow, lol! I share your enthusiasm! It was a great movies, albeit, to me, I liked X-men 3 better, but not by much. This movie had a deeper story than X-3, but X-3 had allot more action.

Kinda pissed there was no Spiderman 3 trailor, at least for my theater any way.

I thought Superman Returns was pretty good. The four main leads (Routh, Spacey, Botsworth, and Marsden) all gave pretty good performances. The special effects weren't that bad, and what I like most about Superman Returns is the fact that it gave an equal amount of character development/story and action, which is rare in movies nowadays. And Brandon Routh is dead sexy...as well as Cyclops...

Agreed, and it'll be interesting to see how many more there are to come. But going back to this one, I watched Ebert and Roeper review this movie, and they made allot of comments that I agreed with, epescially Ebert. He said, that Kate Bosworth's portrayel of Lois Lane was bad, and I kind of agree with that, and that Spacey's Lex Luther ain't got nothing on Gene Hackman's Lex Luther, and I agreed there to, but I also agree with Roeper, when he said that it was a good action movie, and Superman fans should give it a chance, which they seem to be doing, cause it's doing well in the box office.

Eh, to me, I felt Spacey was the better Lex Luthor. Unfortunately, I missed Ebert and Roeper, because I was tired and dozed off.

I agree with the fact that Spacy had the better Lex IMO.You see in the comics, cartoons and even Smallville now, he's EVIL and dark and Hackman's performance(while a great actor) didn't pull Lex off nearly as well as Spacy did in this newer film IMHO.

I mean this lex was pissed, evil and very dark.Hackman's seemed jokey at times, silly and just not dark enough in general.

I agree with Lois actress, she was okish and had nothing on Kidder(forgive the mispelling).

Routh did a splendid job and he even sounded a little like Reeve if you listend closely to his voice.

I'm going to see it again tomorrow with my family.grin

Ah, so you noticed Routh's similarity to Reeve as well, eh? Cool.

Btw...

Lex: C'mon. Lemme hear you say it.

Lois: You're insane.

Lex: No, not that.

Lois: Superman will save me...

Lex: WRONG!!!!

Lois: Superman will...

Yeah, that was a good line, also good, was:

Lex: God's are men flying around in little red capes, who don't share their power.

I guess Hackman's Lex wasn't as dark as Spacey's because Spacey's Luther was already in and out of prison, and was pissed, where Hackman's Luther was going to prison, and had time to build up the anger, IMHO. If that makes sense?!

I found something interesting, while watching a special on A&E last week, did anyone else see it? Any way, the Mom on Smallville, played the role of Lana Lang, in Superman 2, or 3, can't remember which movie. And Margot Kidder is Canadian!!! grin

I think that's the name of the doc I seen on A&E, and it's replaying this afternoon. And Yeah, since 1939, Superman's been around. Quite along time.

He died of heart failure. Clark went back in time to prevent Lana's death, but a life had to be exchanged for hers so as fate would have it, Johnathon Kent died instead.
