Where is the guy that always says such and such character shouldn't exist? The cyber ninjas are THE WORST things ever introduced to Mortal Kombat. CYBER NINJAS??? I hate them. Johnny Cage better wipe the floor with him.

It was a hard pick for me though. I loved Cyrax in MK3. But Cage in MK9 is just so amazing. He oozes personality and gives the game some good laughs.

So it had to be Cage.

Johnny Cage, biggest movie star vs. cybernetic dinosaur-Cyrax.

Johnny Cage is in a MK on a beginning,Cyrax later on a third part, but, both fighters is very stronger and unpredictible,i think is Cyrax been stronger,i don`t know,Cage is longer there and he is passed on a next round!!

I never thought Cyrax was a necessary character, we already have Sektor (who is more interesting anyway). Cage, despite thinking he's God's gift to women, is much more dynamic. And who can forget his ball breaker!

ALTHOUGH you're right the whole cyber ninjas are weird and kind of stick out (in a bad way) from the rest of the cast. Random super technology that we really don't see again.

Exactly! In a universe inspired by myths, gods, and kung fu martial arts films, they introduce.... CYBER ASSASSINS?? How are robots even considered ''mortal''? Lamest characters ever introduced to this series, bar none.

Nope. Kobra makes way more sense in the MK Universe than the robot ninjas. Just my humble opinion.

I don't think they stand out that much. With Kano's eye, Kabal's mask, Hsu Hao's chest and Jax's arms, seems about right that there'd be at least one character who was fully roboticized. Not to mention the OIA developing the technology to open portals to other realms. Plus whatever the hell was going on in Jax and Kano's endings from MK9. But I get what you mean and certainly when they first appeared it seemed random as hell.

To be fair, 'super-tech' was there from the beginning (ie; Kano).

Sure, the foundations of the original game rested heavily on the HK cinema and martial arts influences, but we can never forget MK was always a product of an American perspective. The through line - particularly throughout the Tobias era - was always vibrating on a comic book frequency, and playing with a base of American cultural touchstones.

MKII swirled in European and American flavours as we took a tour of the fantasy land of Outworld. MK3 brought us back to Earth, to the perspective of the common mortal for the first time. This is where we get the Lin Kuei cyborgs and other iconic tech references (ie; Jax) and it's exactly why it works. It's a contrast of references, one that's at the heart of the American comic book conceits of Mortal Kombat. These aren't slick futuristic Japanese machines -- they're big clunky American sci-fi.

The Terminator, Predator, Star Wars -- this stuff was always deeply embedded beneath the skin of Mortal Kombat. We know these references. We know their relevance. It might not be the driving force of the series, but the Lin Kuei cyborgs are part of what makes Mortal Kombat unique and uniquely American.

"I always saw Mortal Kombat as a big mash-up of those eastern influences with a western sensibility. I've said before that I think MKs success with its mythology and characters comes from a balance between fantasy -- which in this case is represented by eastern influences -- and reality, which is represented by western influences." - John Tobias, In Konversation with Mortal Kombat Online (Sep. 17, 2012)

Kano and Jax just have cybernetic implants. Sektor and Cyrax are full on cyborgs. It was just weird, especially coming from a group of Chinese assassins seemingly steeped in tradition. Clearly they've kept up with the times though lol.

I've also had a problem with their code names. Sektor and Cyrax were their names even before they were converted. It just seems at odds with the likes of Sub-Zero and Smoke who are clearly named after their supernatural abilities. Sektor and Cyrax don't really fit with what they were capable of as humans.

As was said by other people, "super technology" was present in the series from the very begining (Kano's eye implant).
Jax doesn't count since his arm implants were introduced in the same game as cyborgs.

In MK2 comic book prequel it was shown, that Lin Kuei have advanced technology. Kuai Liang said himself, that his brother was an old school guy and Lin Kuei as the whole was much more advanced then people presumed.
It was done because cyber ninjas were supposed to be introduced in MK2 initially (as said in Tobias Twitter quite some time ago). Their first appearance was delayed, but it never wasn't "out of nowhere".

Bottom line, advanced technology was part of the MK universe from the begining. Cyber ninjas do have place in the MK'verse no matter how you look at it.

Kano's eye and and actual cyborgs are two different things completely. Technology in general has been present since the beginning but it seemingly took a big jump in MK3 and MK4 (kind of).
And considering that the previous two games were very eastern and mystic to suddenly have western sci-fi elements was out of the blue.

Nope. Still Kobra. Kobra is just a fail attempt to put Ryu from street fighter in the game. But they failed SO BADLY they accidently turned him into a generic white guy. Mokap is at least interesting.

Warnig; Extremely long post incoming.

Kobra, not as interesting as Mokap? You stated that Kobra doesn't fit into MK above. He at least is a fighter in background, and has the ability to be considered as a Black Dragon Member. Mokap randomly got sucked inot the fight. While in his Mokap suit. Explain?
And what do you know about Mokap? He randomly got sucked into the battle, he's based on Carlos Pesina, and he's a mocap artist. What do you know about Kobra? He was a street warrior who grew up in the aleyways fighting people. He had obtained a bloodlust after his first kill, and became much more ruthless. He continued his fighting style training and was found by Kabal to start the new Black Dragon clan. He had decided to go with it, and ends up an actual member of the BD. He's literally a knock-off of Ken from Street Fighter, and has his own variation of the Hadouken in his fireball, with a fighting style built around Ken. See the difference?

Man, I can't believe I'm supporting KOBRA. I fel so wierd, like I'm gonna throw up...

Oh,and I vote Cyrax. Mostly beause i like the cyber ninjas, and I'm not the biggest Cage fan.
To the point of cyber ninjas and technology in MK-
How does a robot not fit in? First- they, though robotic, were once human. They aren't all robotic. Think about it, ow would you turn a human into a complete robot? They're CYBORGS. Why would you try (and fail) to turn humans into full robots when you can just build onnes of your own? And, Kano's eye, Jax's arms, Kabal's mask, Hsu Hao's chest, Stryker's guns- all of these could be considered high tech- most of them actually occur in real-life, and MK doesn't happen thousands of years in the past, it happens basically RIGHT now. GHranted, Hsu Hao's chest seem a little odd, but still, we have heat transplants, and we could easily create a machine to pump blood with enough time and money. The robots aren't robots, they still HAVE to have some Human parts in there, otherwise they LITERALLY just take the apart and build a robot where they wer. Pointless much?

They do everything every other character in MK does with robotic thecnology
Jax; His arms. If we can do it with arms, we casn do it with legs.
Hsu Hao; A robotic chestpiece. Obviously able to be done to provide anybody else the same effect.
Kabal; We have an entire head and respiratory system being used here robotically. How does that not work on other people?
Kano; We can give people robttic sight.

So, arms, legs, chest, face, lungs, eyes, what does that leave? Just a digestive system. If you're a cyborg, you can be re-worked to run on electric energy, now you have no need of food or water to stay alive.

Parts of the person are obviously still there, otherwise that's not Sektor and Cyrax. It'd basically just bebulding a robot on a table with a human on it if we were to create full robots from Lin Keui members.
