A bit of advice before you churn out more mediocre backgrounds: Download yourself a copy of Paint Shop Pro. The trial version is absolutely free, but I suggest that you perform a Google search for Paint Shop Pro 7 and obtain it. It's the program that I use to produce all of the elements in my fake pictures and, as far as I know, blacksaibot uses it as well.

If you'd like me to specify exactly how you can go about obtaining an absolutely free copy of PSP7, send me a private message and I'll give you the simplest of instructions.

PSP for life. Got saiZero to use it and she loves it. I have PSP9, but I believe should could only manage to find PSP6 (or maybe it was 7?).

PSP7 is my baby as well. I've been using it forever. All I ever use... anything anyone can make in Photoshop in terms of sprites/fakes, I can do in PSP7.

Anyway here's an old fake [series]. I was inspired at the time by BlackSaibot (under his Xtreemist persona) to make a multi-frame piece. It has it issues, and I am well aware of them, I just thought I'd post something else.

I like it but it makes no sense to have a archways ontop of nother archways...there's no point unless its a window. And if its a window it should have glass. Try to think like ur building a real structure and ur an architect. Ask urself "does this make sense"

The two arches were designed to be on top of each other, like a window. Unfortunatley, I cant do glass. I'll try to make some and post it here to see how it turns out :)

That's actually not bad. You just have to add some kind of light source to explain why the walls are changing color... and also why the skull is blue.

Thanks! I made the skull blue without a lightsource, and the window thing is a bust, probably pass it off as a cave-thing. My idea was like the oni area in Shaolin Monks. The one right before the bridge. I was thinking about fire somehow. I'll find something by tomarrow.

Here are some old unfinished sprites of mine from about 4-5 years ago.


A quick take on a more lean Jax appearance. Also used it to work on body shading.


I believe this was going to be used in coordination with the Jax sprite above to make a fake. I got bored with the idea, so it was never finished.


This was supposed to be for a fake I flaked out on before finishing this. Wanted to do some kind of acid related fatality with Reptile, I believe.


This started as an experiment with shading colored pant fabrics. Never had a decent enough idea to finish it.


Like the previous sprite, this started out as an experiment to try different things I hadn't attempted before. Thus, the clashing attire. Never intended for a fake.


The most recent of the batch of sprites here, this was made in early-to-mid 2008. It was going to be a torso kick fatality. I got this far into the sprite and realized a crucial issue, the position was wrong for what I was trying to accomplish. I didn't want to spend any additional time on it, so I gave up on it.. and I think that was the last thing I edited before I went on my multi-year sprite editing hiatus and couple year MK hiatus.

Now, I pose a question... Is there any interest in seeing the first few fakes I made? I have some of those, but I'm missing the "middle" years. It would show you how much time and effort can progress abilities and quality. It's up to you guys.. these things are pretty terrible, haha.

I highly doubt they could be any worse than my first batch of fakes.

Oh, these are bad. In the interest of fun (mostly shits and giggles).. here are the first few fakes I made. Well, at least the ones I have saved. Please note that some of these have been around longer than most of the active members on this site, lol.

Also, I'm not sure on the exact order.. but I tried to sort it out the best I could.


This wasn't my first fake, but it was the first fake I used PSP7 to edit with. I want to say that I posted this to a Gamers.com forum. I think it was the one for Minus_Zero's old-old sprite resource site. Yes, red lightning, I was like 11, I had no idea what I was doing in life. Also, lol @ ".jpg." I was an idiot.


I wanted to use MKT Cage in a fake.. well, I accomplished that much. I did like this background though. This was posted on MKIntensive, when it was first active.


Still trying to figure out what I was doing in the editing department. Everyone at the time was making sprites of their persona. Being like 12-13, I could not be bothered with being more creative than this.. Ugh.


I made this while I went into a brief stint as my other screen name "|KAHN| (after MKI went down?).


Yeah, after I came back as "MKRocket" I tried to do some from scratch editing. Didn't turn out so well. Heh.

I posted this at MKIntensive when it came back briefly. The fake making community was attempting to bring to life the Dragon King / Onaga based on Raiden's MKDA ending. This was well before we got any MKDeception art/renders of his actual appearance. I guess that dates this pretty well.

Well those are what I have left from the '99(ish)-'03 era of my fake making legacy(?). Sigh, dating myself.

This is my confirmed very first fake I made; it was a concept that I created for Minus-Zero back when I used to be his source of fake pic ideas. Then I ventured out to do my own work.

I can't remember the year but I do know it was before 2003. I'm old as shit. MK2011 didn't bring excitement like MKDA did. I really hope that the new MK isn't some regurgitated MK4 trash... we need NEW and EXCITING things in MK. Not the same story told differently for the worse.
