I still like your Venom one the most (I guess cause Venom's my favorite Comic character of all time though and you managed to capture his true spooky looking demeanor), but the Gambit one's awesome too. I don't use Gimp. but i think if you can sort of look at the tools i use when i explain, and match some of them to your Gimp tools, It may be able to help.

Looks like a ripple effect to me.

The light streak infront of the render should be less bright...

Its too bright and its making it difficult to see the render, also if it were a little bit darker it would make the lighting on the render look much better IMO.
